To want to cut my hair very short like Gemma Arterton? (with pics)

I know she is impossibly beautiful and perhaps that haircut would look nothing like that on me. But it looks so bloody amazing and sophisticated on her that I feel really tempted Grin

AIBU to cut my hair so short? Would it look awful on someone not quite as stunning as Gemma?

It's not though is it? It's much shorter - and Hailey Cropper would have looked better with a shorter style.

yakari · 31/05/2018 11:37

I recently got mine cut from shoulder length bob to short, after showing the hairdresser 'Meg Ryan' - I love it! But colour is really important - it would be very meh without a load of different blond shades of chunky highlights
I picked my hairdresser as she has short purple hair at 45+ so I figured she wouldn't give me something too boring!

I've designed a quick quiz for you:
-Do you like your ears?
-Are you prepared to have a lot of neck and shoulders exposed?
-Do you have the money and time to keep getting it cut every 5 or 6 weeks?
-Will your overall "style" and the way you dress suit short hair?
-will you be happy to wash and style it most mornings?
-Are you alright with having hair on your face all the time? (sometimes my hair gets on my nerves and I love to put it all back off my face in a ponytail).
-do you have a reasonable jaw line and less than 3 chins?

If mostly yesses then go for it. Smile
I love a before and after pic on these sorts of threads if you're brave enough!

Bf won't let me shave my head and its soo hot

But it's your hair. Is he the boss of you?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 31/05/2018 11:47

I was thinking that Positive. Get some clippers and go for it, it's your head!

DarlingNikita · 31/05/2018 11:51

Bf won't let me shave my head

That just doesn't compute. Confused

BrazzleDazzleDay · 31/05/2018 11:55

I quite fancy a short do but have quite a wide nose and large lips so think id probably look a bit daft.

Also im rather lazy and very rarely bother doing anything with my hair

LottaLou · 31/05/2018 12:14

So this is me with my current hairstyle (covered my eyes for privacy - sorry!!)

Oh yes OP you'll rock it! Your bone structure is similar to Agyness Deyn's - famous for looking great with short hair.

Keep a good amount of length on the crown and have a fringe like GA's, to avoid your face looking long. Tell the hairdresser NOT to go too short all over because some of them do that when you ask for short, IME.

I have very short hair but don't really like that cut because of the back, I prefer it to be cut in. I cut my own so the upkeep isn't a problem.
Mine is like this but darker atm.

Cocole looooove that Michelle Williams' style! Even better than Gemma's!!

Wow you have a beautiful face. Yes go for it. I think your high forehead would suit a falling forward style.
I'm eagerly awaiting the After shots. Smile

MsHomeSlice · 31/05/2018 12:42

I think @Enko 's link would really suit you.

Mine is less disconnected than that, but inbetween your GA pic and Enko 's

FindoGask · 31/05/2018 12:42

You've got a fab bone structure - you'll really rock short hair. But I would still go choppier than Gemma did, as above, and shorter at the back and sides.

Zcarter · 31/05/2018 12:47

I don’t like it personally oven in her. But if you like it go for it xx

lemonsunshinecake · 31/05/2018 12:51

I've got pixie short hair and it's ace. I had it cut short then went shorter and shorter. Love it, it's me and I feel like me with short hair!

Changedmaname · 31/05/2018 12:53

As someone who has much shorter hair than this, I would say YANBU. Go for it! A good hairdresser will be able to advise if it will suit you and tailor a cut to your hair type and face shape.

halfwitpicker · 31/05/2018 12:53

From what you've said it will look good on you.

TossDaily · 31/05/2018 12:59

I tried it.

It started off nice.

After three days I turned into Shirley from Eastenders.
After ten days I was Claire Balding.
After a fortnight, Pat Butcher.
Three weeks, generic regional newscaster.

Don't do it.

Lilacwine1 · 31/05/2018 12:59

Don't do it. I had my hair cut in a very similar style, and regretted it as soon as I got home. You have to have regular trims, and it really is a very plain style. Growing your hair long again takes forever, especially when you see all the styles you can achieve with long hair.

MsHomeSlice · 31/05/2018 13:07

too many layers then @TossDaily ? :o

PiggeryPorcombe · 31/05/2018 13:12

Do a face swap using a pic of yourself and screenshot of actress with desired hair.

user1499173618 · 31/05/2018 13:15

Gemma Arterton is exceptionally beautiful and sexy! She doesn’t “need” hair to embellish her! Most of us benefit from a nice hairstyle.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 31/05/2018 13:18

I turned into Shirley from EastEnders Sorry but Grin

Sometimes I get all my hair in a ponytail in the mirror and arrange the ends on top of my head to see if I'd like it short.
