To think Mumsnet doesn't hate Instagram influencers?

And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

Yes what IS the deal with the peonies?!

Kisbot · 17/06/2018 08:44

The above pic of fod basically hiding #ad in white is so deceptive and devious. ASA rules are #ad must be clear! I hope his bubble bursts what a shit

Spagbolfortea44 · 17/06/2018 12:35

This post is playing right into the hands of Instamums whom hold the view that any discussion of #ad is motivated by jealousy. "I hope the ASA is made aware of his unclear disclosure and regulates accordingly" = dispassionate and focusing on the issue. "I hope his bubble bursts what a shit" = off the point and a personal attack; to which is very easy to attribute jealousy towards FOD.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 12:40

While I agree, @Spagbolfortea44 I also can understand why someone might feel emotional about this topic when it's not an honest mistake - FOD's camouflaged hashtag feels like a conscious attempt to deceive

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 13:10

Exactly spagbol. Certainly clear why some are so concerned with ads etc. This point clear every few pages of the thread when it starts sliding back into the pits again.

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 13:13

Beauty box - with you on IGers should make ads clear. People coming on and spouting bile shows these threads up for what they really are though.

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 13:16

The celeb one running about Ant at the minute reminds me so much of this thread. The same mindset, the same gossip, nastiness. Different names, same thing.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 13:17

Alternatively... there are pages of completely reasonable discussion and every few pages it gets a bit personal... but you choose, every time, to focus on these posts and rarely get involved when the discussion is actually going somewhere. It's so odd, but your prerogative, obviously.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 13:19

I haven't read the Ant thread so I can't comment on that except to say that I have no interest in gossiping and bitching about anyone. I'm very happy with the tone of this thread... if I'm not I quietly report a post or pull someone up directly. I'd feel deeply uncomfortable otherwise. So I'd have to disagree that they're similar if what you're saying is true!

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 13:22

Beauty box - if you read the posts, it wasn't me who said it. I was merely agreeing with them. I'm engaging in talking about ads. Obviously you don't want to see that. Just agreeing that it does drag straight back down to into shit slinging and digs after so many pages regardless of how sensible the discussion is.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 13:40

I absolutely do acknowledge that you get involved in th discussion @CadyHeron and it's great when you do. It's just sporadic (because you're reading and agreeing?!?) whereas you will always be there to defend influencers.

My issue is that rather than pick up individual posters on posts you don't think are in the spirit of the thread, like other posters would do, you tar everyone who has an opposing view to yours with the same brush. Suddenly "the threads" are always spiral into bitching and jealousy rather than it being down to a minority of individuals posting in one sitting. As though that's what, deep down, we all want and were all battling with ourselves to stay civil.

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 13:50

Beautybox - I said in my post some. Meaning not all.

PeppaP · 17/06/2018 13:55

Cady what do you think you’re achieving by saying the same things over and over? Your investment in this is not clear.

Have seen FODs latest post and there was one voice of ‘too many ads’ which was polite but the replies from the followers were unreal, instagram is a nasty culture of shouting down and shutting up, it’s scary.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 14:21

@CadyHeron - you say "some" and "minority" when you're pressed but you also use language like "the thread gets dragged down" implying it's prolific. I don't think those sorts of posts are dragging threads down but it's convenient to say they are and to highlight every single instance of them, and compare this thread to the thread about Ant Macpartlin which you say is full of "nastiness" and the same mindset as this thread.

Celticmombella · 17/06/2018 14:26

I would like to know exactly how much money they actually get for the ads. C&C who left Instagram but is on twitter was going on this weekend about needing to go back on Instagram as she needs another decent collaboration cheque!! she also had a post a while back on how she is still owed £500 from a company and misses the money and needs to get a job now. In the interest of transparency they should have some way of saying how much they earn. I wonder do they declare everything they get from pay adverts/products on tax returns

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 14:28

Beautybox-again, somebody else mentioned it and I was agreeing with them.

Fivelittleduckies · 17/06/2018 14:31

@celticmombella declaring ads is one thing, but don’t you think it’s a bit far expecting people to disclose pay packets?! Do you share this information with anyone...seems a bit ott Confused

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 14:34

Celticmomma - why do you need to know how much they earn, maybe they do need another cheque. Lots of people do need extra pay coming in for bills.

PeppaP · 17/06/2018 14:35

I don’t care how much they earn for their ads, I just care that it’s labelled correctly.

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 14:36

Fivelittleduckies - it's the way it always goes, I don't care who gets indignant at me saying that.

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 14:38

OK, missed the middle bit. Seriously, what the hell has how much they earn got to do with transparency?! Confused

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 14:58

I dont see how their earnings has anything to Do with transparency as far as ads go. I don't know how much Gary Lineker or Kerry Katona earn from adverts they feature in so not sure influencers is any different.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 15:00

@CadyHeron - this time, yes. But you say the same thing yourself, multiple times, on any thread discussing influencers. Are you denying that?!

CadyHeron · 17/06/2018 15:07

Their earnings definitely nothing to do with transparency, no not sure about it.

Babaloo88 · 17/06/2018 15:24

It’s funny how little everyone is saying about Simon’s lack of clarity. I’m not MOD’s biggest fan but if she did that, she’d be lynched!
