To think Mumsnet doesn't hate Instagram influencers?

And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

I am fine. Thank you for asking. I appreciate the kindness. Smile Just letting this misunderstanding settle. Are you OK?

This is trangressing from the topic. We are concerned with breaches of the ASA reg. and using children to montize accounts. The income derived from said interests should not form a focus for this forum. It is irrelevant.

m5slowdown · 11/06/2018 18:11

Me too. Thank you for taking the time and pointing out the learning we can take from each other....the wider each other. Smile

LavenderFlannel · 11/06/2018 18:12

Always here if you need me, M5.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 11/06/2018 18:28

To be honest m5, your incessant rudeness and incoherent comments should not form a focus of these discussions but we're all having to suffer them regardless, despite many now being moderated and removed I notice. Stop trying to police this thread and cause friction please.

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 18:39
  • @spongebob* it's been clarified twice that it wasn't m5, people have been mis-reading posts. M5 said nothing wrong in pointing out that it's not fair to dismiss mental health as day to day life. (even though I know the actual op of that has apologised for wording it wrong)

I've reached the conclusion they are all very dull posh women. I have a real hystericalaigh with people from work and friends who are a billion times more interesting and informed. So bored of posh rich women on IG. I can't think of any I like. It's so repetitive. I did like the one who is bf of the one that jumps but she seems dull now. Also the one married to the food critic but lately it's sooooo dull. Real life is funnier.

Bestbe · 11/06/2018 18:51

I seem to have written hystericalaigh or something. I meant they make me laugh.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 11/06/2018 19:17

My post had nothing to do with her comments (or not) on mental health cady. She was trying to close down a side discussion on influencer's income stream brought up by another poster. She's proven to be rude in countless other ways, most of which has been removed by mumsnet.

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 19:19

I do think there's a bit of point there too, actually - what is it to any of us how much someone does or doesn't earn?
Nobody would be so rude as to demand to know the income stream of Mrs Bloggs down the road, how much they earn is their own business, surely.

The sole purpose of publication of company accounts (including free access to members of the public) at Companies House is for interested parties, i.e., individuals and / corporate entities whom seek to validate the solvency of the company it proposes to undertake business with. When Parliament created the statute governing Companies House records disclosure, I am absolutely certain the intention was not for this information to be accessed by forums featuring individuals whom have no legitimate interest (as per the statute) whatsoever to this information. Indeed, it is being used for nefarious purposes here.

m5 I agree about nefarious purposes bit, it really is none of anyone else's business how much people earn and it is over obsessed to want to go scrutinising.

Theclockstruck13 · 11/06/2018 19:49

CadyHeron

I, along with many others, are as pleased as punch.

m5slowdown · 11/06/2018 19:51

I am at a complete loss what the earnings of IGers provides to the debate. It is detrimental to the integrity of posters whom claim they are discussing ethics / monetisation of minors. The motivation for identifying earnings is sinister, unnecessary and completely undermines any claim that this a legitimate debate. It is mud slinging...simple!

Theclockstruck13 · 11/06/2018 20:02

m5slowdown

simply being me. And that's just it, I'm me

allaboardtheallergybus · 11/06/2018 20:07

I find it very uncomfortable discussing how much these people earn but I find it more uncomfortable that someone has bothered to search for this information and to post about it on here, just to make a point.

Notice the new poster @theclockstruck13

I’ve been reading these threads with interest and have enjoyed the discussions but it always takes a nasty more sinister turn, as does every thread on this topic of Instamums

Theclockstruck13 · 11/06/2018 20:17

Allaboardtheallergybus

It gave me an understanding into how much she contributes not only to my familie's life , but also this place we call instagram & to those people that follow her.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 11/06/2018 20:21

Agreed this thread has turned. Incidentally by the same people claiming to defend the instamums. My point wasn't whether or not we should be speaking about their earnings, it was the arrogance of m5 to say it wasn't allowed to be discussed. Who made her the thread police?!

ODFOD.

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 20:23

Spongebob - you said you didn't want m5 to close down debate on earnings.
So they've started talking about it (which you said you wanted and the thread's taken a strange turn.
Well done for that. Hmm
