To wonder why nobody seems to hang pants on the washing line

I seem to be the only one who does...
Not being a creeper, just something I've noticed in the last few weeks while hanging the washing out that genuinely baffles me (shared garden, can see numerous other gardens from it.)
There's nothing better than a fresh pair of line dried pants.
I'd understand not hanging out a really scabby old pair...
Do people want to give the impression they don't wear any?

I sometimes do it depends how much washing I have. The other clothes take up more drying space, and underwear including socks take a lot of pegs, so underwear can dry indoors if there is no room on the line or not any pegs left. (I have about 60 pegs which I think is plenty in case anyone suggests i could buy more)

My neighbours don't put ANY washing on their lines. Really odd! Randomly in conversation one of my next door neighbours did say thay whenever they put their washing out it seemed to rain so they've stopped trying now but it must be a pain to constantly have washing hanging indoors when it could be out.

fleshmarketclose · 28/05/2018 07:43

I do but I hang them is a spot that isn't visible to the neighbours. I assume my neighbour does the same because I never see pants on her washing line either.

Bluelonerose · 28/05/2018 07:46

Why wouldn't you? Where do you dry them otherwise?
If some dirty perv wants to bang one out to my throng billowing in the breeze crack on I couldn't care less.

Bluelonerose · 28/05/2018 07:47

Also I brought one of those multi pegged arm things so all sock and pants go on there to save room on line and pegs

Cantspell2 · 28/05/2018 07:49

I hang pants, bras and pretty much everything. If fact I have a line full now.
My nearest neighbors don’t even have a line and so never hang any washing. What a waste of resources to always use a dryer when sun dried is free and better for the environment.

randomsabreuse · 28/05/2018 07:51

I rarely bother to put pants and sock on the outside line because I prioritise big things like bed sheets that are a pain to hang indoors.

Effort is also a factor- clothes horses don't need pegs so I'd prefer to fill the line with clothes which means fewer pegs in total. Also quicker to remove when the rain starts a that a million pairs of pants and socks.

Where do you dry them otherwise?

Underwear and bedding (I have hay fever) are the only things I always put in the tumbler. Bras which can't be tumbled I hang on the towel rail in the bathroom.

BlondeB83 · 28/05/2018 07:59

I put mine out but only my pretty ones...not my Bridget Jones style time of the month pants Grin

cjferg · 28/05/2018 11:56

I have tons of pegs out there anyway because it is hands down the best place to dry nappies. An hour or two on a beautiful day like this as opposed to 2 days inside.

Always feel like a champ if I can get several loads dry in one day.

My neighbours don't put ANY washing on their lines. Really odd!

Current house - no washing line next door either side
Previous house - no washing line next door either side
Previous house before that - no washing line next door either side

We don't hang washing out. Everything goes into the dryer, and the stuff that can't be tumbled gets hung up on the back of a door (using one of those over-door things to hold multiple hangars) to air dry.

SallySynonym · 28/05/2018 12:19

I do, but one peg only so that they are not an obvious "pants" shape. Also they dry perfectly well like that and I often wouldn't have enough pegs to go round otherwise.

I did one have a friend call round unexpectedly on a sunny day, so we went into the garden for a cuppa. She was acting very oddly and eventually admitted that she was flustered because of my pants and bras on the line about 20 feet away from her and asked me to take them in. She's a nurse so I dread to think what else might affect her sensibilities.
