To wonder why nobody seems to hang pants on the washing line

I seem to be the only one who does...
Not being a creeper, just something I've noticed in the last few weeks while hanging the washing out that genuinely baffles me (shared garden, can see numerous other gardens from it.)
There's nothing better than a fresh pair of line dried pants.
I'd understand not hanging out a really scabby old pair...
Do people want to give the impression they don't wear any?

In that case HateSummer I'd definitely hang them out!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/05/2018 14:28

I can't be arsed tbh. All knickers, boxers, socks, tea towels get thrown in the tumble dryer. Doesn't take long to dry them.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2018 14:29

I have several ikea octopi to flaunt my undies on. 😂

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 27/05/2018 14:29

in Rome people dry their underwear on balconies.

Freshprincess · 27/05/2018 14:32

I don't. When I was a teenager I worked in a underwear section of a department store and a lady came in to buy loads of knickers because someone had pinched them off the line. Creeped me out and I've never done.

QuinionsRainbow · 27/05/2018 14:33

We put ours out when it's drying weather, boxers, briefs, thongs, jock-straps, the lot. Maybe your neighbours don't wear any. It's not unknown!

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 27/05/2018 14:33

I hang all mine out, but tend to put my bridget style knickers on the inside of the rotary so they are a bit hidden.

caoraich · 27/05/2018 14:33

I do. Though once, the neighbours complained. They were worried their sons would see my (entirely normal) pants. Hmm

EeeSheWasThin · 27/05/2018 14:34

Mine all go out but in the middle of the whirligig thing. When I had a line in my old garden I would hang them on the Wilko octopus, but that was a hangover from the bloke next door observing when I first moved in that my knickers were a bit boring as they were all the same shape.

RaininSummer · 27/05/2018 14:34

I do. Mine, ohs and the lodgers. My partner takes the pee and always puts as many pegs as will fit on my Bridget jones pants.

MyfavouriteCauliflower · 27/05/2018 14:36

I do but hide them with other clothes..

happypoobum · 27/05/2018 14:36

I hang the kids underwear out, but I would never dream of putting mine on the line, people would set up a go fund me page for new undies if I did, they are of no descript colour (imagine every colour there has ever been, mixed all together) and some of them are hanging by a thread ☺️. I think I need to go pants shopping lol

PlumsGalore · 27/05/2018 14:38

The only underwear that goes on my line is DSs Calvin Kleins, he is very fussy about his trunks and they are nice. Mine and DHs undies are not fit for public display and DDs undies are obscene, I don't want anyone thinking I wear bits of string.

VioletCharlotte · 27/05/2018 14:38

I do. Doesn't bother me at all. My pants are all very full though, maybe if they were a bit racy I'd dry them indoors!

VioletCharlotte · 27/05/2018 14:38

*dull! Not full!

Allthewaves · 27/05/2018 14:39

I tumble socks and pants mostly as cannot be arsed to clip them all up on the line

BrazzleDazzleDay · 27/05/2018 14:40

My neighbours do, every sunday and wednesday is pants and socks wash day

LittleCandle · 27/05/2018 14:41

I also have an Ikea octopus thing and my knickers and bra are currently hanging outside. Who gives a toss? I'm not much in the habit of staring at my neighbours' washing - I'm simply not interested.

When I was a teen, my grandma, who lived with us, objected to hanging my min-bikini knickers on the line, but I suspect it was because our only neighbours who could see into our garden were decidedly weird and commented on everything we did, especially hanging out the washing. They were also rude enough to literally hang out of their front window on the day of my grandma's funeral. My uncle waving cheerily at them soon had them vanishing back inside.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 27/05/2018 14:44

Do men fret over this, too? Or are men's underpants Not Controversial and just, you know, another item of clothing that needs drying?

TakeMe2Insanity · 27/05/2018 14:44

I do.

pigsDOfly · 27/05/2018 14:45

I do. Knickers, bras, socks, and everything else.

If neighbours are offended they haven't said anything. I'm assuming they all know that I wear knickers.

NettleTea · 27/05/2018 14:51

I do, however I put DDs knickers on the inner parts of the rotary line as she has had some unwanted attention from the teenage boy next door, and I just dont feel comfortable that he MIGHT be gawping at them. Its literally only the last few months that I have done that.

kaitlinktm · 27/05/2018 14:52

I have nightmares about my massive pants blowing off the line into someone else's garden and them having to come round and return them to me. Much safer to dry indoors - especially if your pants are from Rent-a-Tent.

oakleaffy · 27/05/2018 14:53

Pants are so [comparatively] small, as are socks, that they dry indoors quite fast. Bedsheets and larger items of clothing such as towels can do with a good old blow in the wind and sun.. I do peg out underwear, but use one of those Ikea octopus leg things with pegs on so if it rains, you can just unhook the one device and not have reams of pants falling onto the grass as you grapple with armloads of laundry in a squall.
