To wonder why nobody seems to hang pants on the washing line

I seem to be the only one who does...
Not being a creeper, just something I've noticed in the last few weeks while hanging the washing out that genuinely baffles me (shared garden, can see numerous other gardens from it.)
There's nothing better than a fresh pair of line dried pants.
I'd understand not hanging out a really scabby old pair...
Do people want to give the impression they don't wear any?

I hang ours outside. Always have.

Admittedly I have never had to use a communal garden. Not sure I would actually hang anything much out if I did. Not through embarrassment, I don't care who sees what over the fence, but I guess I am just territorial. Grin

There is a block of apartments near us with communal washing lines. A public footpath run's right past them though with no fence or clear boundary of any sort. They are always empty.

I live in a block of masonettes we all have our own mini patch of land the size of a rotary line. I'm to embarrassed to put my undies out so I put them in the drier.

April241 · 27/05/2018 14:05

Mines are flapping about the breeze right now! Big ol bridget Jones ones at that.

Undies that is, who gives a toss, its a pair of pants.

Mxyzptlk · 27/05/2018 14:07

My neighbours hang out washing, yes. I've no idea what the items are, tho, could be all facecloths and towels for all I know.

Giraffeslikethesun · 27/05/2018 14:08

I do but only if I have lots of washing and I can hang them up right in the middle of the whirlie got so you can't really see them and if you can it's hard to tell if they are pants/sports bras/vest tops etc. I hand them in a funny way not 2 pegs hung up so obviously pants.

KinkyAfro · 27/05/2018 14:09

I do, I've just put up another washing line just for pants, don't give a shiny shite if anyone sees them

UpstartCrow · 27/05/2018 14:10

We don't because there's a knicker nicker!

happypoobum · 27/05/2018 14:12

I do. I had no idea this was a thing and people didn't do it any longer. Mystifying.

People who wouldn't hang out your pants. Would you hang out bikini bottoms?

GobblersKnob · 27/05/2018 14:13

I do. And bras. And washable sanpro.

Only my pants though as none of them will tumble dry, everyone else's pants get tumbled, too much faff to hang them all out.

NainAGP · 27/05/2018 14:14

I dont, because anything I haven't pegged properly could end up in next door's garden. I don't mind going to ask for towels, tshirts back ........

liz70 · 27/05/2018 14:15

No tumble dryer here. Smalls (including undies) go on a sock carousel hung from one corner of our rotary dryer when we use it.

FatherMacKenzie · 27/05/2018 14:16

I do too. I tend to keep them to the inside rungs if the line behind other clothes though, so you probably wouldn’t see them unless you were looking for them.

Zaphodsotherhead · 27/05/2018 14:16

I do. Pants, bras, all hung akimbo on the line where the fresh air can ruffle the crotches.

OH won't hang his out though. People might SEE.

LightAsTheBreeze · 27/05/2018 14:17

We have a long clothes line rather than a rotary and all the smalls go on those cheap hanging racks with about 20 pegs so they don't take up too much space on the line

Roomba · 27/05/2018 14:18

I hang all of ours out. Used to feel a bit weird about it, but mentally decided the neighbours may believe I didn't wear any pants if I never pegged them out. That was a far worse thought, so out they went Grin

NerrSnerr · 27/05/2018 14:18

What's embarrassing about pegging your knickers out? We all wear them (or at least most of us do).

happypoobum · 27/05/2018 14:18

So long as we are all agreed - nothing gets darked on

SoupDragon · 27/05/2018 14:20

I hang everything on the line. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t - they’re just underwear.

The only things I tumble dry are towels for a short amount to fluff them up and jeans for just the cool down part of the cycle t osoften them up.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 27/05/2018 14:21

Probably the same weirdo who smuggled her pants she was going to buy under her jumper to the till in Asda the other day and shouted at the till lady to put them through quickly straight into a bag so no one would see.

vampirethriller · 27/05/2018 14:21

I do.

HateSummer · 27/05/2018 14:22

I do, but I hide them behind larger items on the rotary line. If there’s loads then I dry them inside. The only reason is I have nosey neighbours who are ALWAYS looking into our garden through their bedroom windows. Twitching nets and waving kids and everything. They’re having a good time watching me play swing ball at the moment, so I think realising I have shocking pink coloured undies would push them over the edge.

BBTHREE76 · 27/05/2018 14:23

I do. I use one of these ikea octopus things to keep bras and pants together.

To wonder why nobody seems to hang pants on the washing line
LightAsTheBreeze · 27/05/2018 14:24

I use something similar to the Octopus from Wilko

newyearwhoohoo · 27/05/2018 14:25

I hang them all out. My special occasion pants, my used-to-be-white-but-now-grey-tinged ones and my really scabby ones. Not ashamed in the least. Grin
