To want to do a drastic diet?

I have gained huge amounts of weight over the last two years and am now nearly 15stone.

At my height, that’s pretty large and I’m very depressed.

Wondering about doing a liquid/shake diet. Any views?

I did slimming world- it worked for me, but an unbelievable number of members would turn up ‘again’ having out on all the weight they lost. It is a money making enterprise.

Nishky · 27/05/2018 09:06

*put on

Tit4TatandAllThat · 27/05/2018 09:07

Ok OP you stay fat and fucking grumpy Hmm

How very dare people tell you how to lose weight when you asked for ideas.

Oh I know, how about a deep fried mars bar for breakfast, a bag of crisps, then a small pizza for lunch followed by a salad for dinner. That what you want to hear?

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2018 09:07

its-better by eating normally. Not that it is really anything to do with this. How will lavender cope when she’s no longer doing SW? You eat a normal amount and maintain.

You don’t know how to eat normally. Normal for you has lead to massive weight gain.

Lavender (and all the others on sensible, slow weight loss plans) havd been resetting what normal looks like so when they reach their target they’ll be able to maintain it. VLCD doesn’t have that. That’s one of the reasons why people put the weight back on.

LavenderDoll · 27/05/2018 09:07

But OP you are fat and you were fat six months ago. So you could have lost weight for those six months instead of looking for the mythical lose ten stone in a week drinking fairy juice diets that don't work long term.
Honestly though as someone who has battled obesity for a long time whilst you are still at the excuses stage you aren't going to lose the weight

Ginmakesitallok · 27/05/2018 09:07

But your "normal" eating has led to you being 15 stone. Your normal will not help you maintain a healthy weight. Your normal made you obese. You need to change your normal.

Shadow666 · 27/05/2018 09:07

Basically, studies have shown that crash dieting slows down your metabolism long term. That’s why many people end up gaining more weight long term on a crash diet.

There are a lot of diets out there that don’t involve crash dieting so I suggest you try one.

Consider it a health issue rather than a weight issue. Look after your body as it’s basically the most important thing you have in life.

pinkgirl1234 · 27/05/2018 09:08

@LavenderDoll - Well done on your 3 stone loss! Flowers

WittyJack · 27/05/2018 09:08

Well, there's none so blind as those who won't see.

Apart from those with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes because they won't exercise and eat healthily, of course...

Atalune · 27/05/2018 09:08

My obese friend signed up to this diet meal company. Costs £50/week and she gets 3 meals delivered.

She’s gone from 15 stone to around 9/10.

It’s cost her a fortune. But she would exercise until she was a size twelve and dismissed all diets as dumb. Bit like you!

If you e got money to throw away then do that.

The meal plan is really strict and she can’t eat normal food at any time. She balloon when’s she’s off I expect.

Or.....
Low carb and get a tree heal in your flat/house. Eat 1200 low carb calls a day and do at least 10000brisk steps.

NerrSnerr · 27/05/2018 09:09

I have been messing around, wanting to lose weight for years. I have about 3 stone to lose. VLCDs don't work for me because I'll have a bad day, get too hungry, eat a huge bowl of pasta and cheese and roll off the wagon.

I am now losing weight by changing what I eat, reducing carbs (I'm a vegetarian, I haven't ditched them just not every meal), and making sure I eat better by eating more fruit and vegetables etc. I track on MFP but don't get stressed if I go over my calories if I have eaten well. This is working for me.

Atalune · 27/05/2018 09:11

Tree heal???

Tredmill

LavenderDoll · 27/05/2018 09:12

Thanks for the lovely comments about my weight loss people
I am so ready to be the slim person I used to be.
A man called me a fat cunt out of a wagon four months ago when I was walking (I know OP walking what's the point in that) and I smiled and waved because I know that with the correct diet and exercise I will be fucking fabulous and he will still be a sad twat in a wagon who gets kicks abusing women

Pebblesandsea · 27/05/2018 09:12

Lean muscle helps boost your metabolism. Refusing to do any exercise even safely at home is silly and will make your dieting efforts much much harder. Lots of very good advice on here.

boymum9 · 27/05/2018 09:13

Quick fixes like those kind of diets are firstly not good for you, secondly will ruin your metabolism which means as soon as you go back to eating normally, not just your old habits but just normal amounts of food you will put weight back on because they mess with your metabolism, they're not sustainable.

Weight loss is NOT a quick fix, unfortunately, would you not rather make it a whole lifestyle change and do it slowly? You can then still enjoy the foods you crave but part of a balanced diet, you don't need to start eating stuff you don't want to eat, just less of the bad stuff.
(Used to be a nutritionist and personal trainer)

Lallypopstick · 27/05/2018 09:13

People have suggested a myriad of different approaches, so it's not like there's just one "MN approved" way being proposed here.

Try VLCD if that's what you want. Good luck!

(Thanks to the poster on page 1 who suggested the 8 week blood sugar diet - have ordered the book as someone who is such a sugar fiend)

Fatball · 27/05/2018 09:14

From my own experience and also from what I’ve read, exercise has a very minimal effect on weight loss UNLESS you’re doing massive amounts of it.

VitriolicMuse · 27/05/2018 09:14

Why don’t you have a limb amputated? A leg is quite weighty. That should give you The instant weight loss you need. Good luck!

Polyannah · 27/05/2018 09:15

Don't bother with quick fixes.

They've caused me to yoyo so many times over the years.

Do it properly.

LizzieSiddal · 27/05/2018 09:15

MN is probably the worst place to ask for diet advice. There are hundreds of ways to lose weight. And for every one recommended someone will say “Don’t do that, it’s bad for you, do this” it’s very confusing. The truth is if you stick to ANY diet, you WILL lose weight.

So choose the way that suits you, and go and do it. Once you’ve lost weight, you’ll have to get some advice about how to keep it off, but that’s all in the future.

Do something today, decide which diet you want to do and go and buy the stuff you need. Good luck!

Isadora2007 · 27/05/2018 09:15

All the good advice in the world here won’t do the OP and good. She wants to do the quick fix VLCD as she doesn’t want to work hard at getting the body she will be happy with. We can all see it won’t work as it IS hard work regardless- either getting it off or keeping it off.
So yes OP you are being unreasonable but on you go- you clearly have all the answers.
The kind people on this thread will likely still be here to advise you in 7/8 months time when you’re here asking about a VLCD to lose weight for Xmas. 🙄

Pebblesandsea · 27/05/2018 09:16

Oh no LavenderDoll - that's utterly appalling. If it's any consolation my DP who's a bloody fit marathon runner had almost the exact same thing shouted at him from a car recently (replace fat with some vile homophobic comment). People will always find a reason to be abusive to others and it is them not you. x

Toughtips · 27/05/2018 09:16

Oh dear. I feel for you if you believe that slow and steady is a myth. Download my fitness pal, enter or scan your food and keep a diary for your typical week. Set a goal on the app and it will work out your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) and will create a calorie defect. The RDA for a woman is 2000cals a day, if you are over weight then you are eating over this regularly. Making small changes to your current diet will automatically create a defect you need to drop the weight.

I'm sorry but there is no quick fix. The diets that have been reccomended to you so far only work because it creates a calorie defecit.

You have a diet at the moment. We all do. Some people's are just shit.

Hope this helps.

Please don't fall into the gullible trap of spending money on unnecessary plans and diets.

Go have a look at the James Smith acadamy and find him on Facebook. He debunks all the fitness industry and diet myths and is really helpful.

BusterGonad · 27/05/2018 09:17

Op walking for 30 minutes at 5 stone over weight burns a lot more calories than walking for 30 minutes at a healthy weight. It's easier to lose weight when your fat, it's when you get close to your idea weight that you really struggle, so saying it's easier to eat healthy, exercise etc when your slim is bullshit!
