To wear underwear to bed?

This is so Random but I really want to know! Do you wear underwear to bed?
As a kid I was told by my stepmom to let it all breath, and be free from underwear.
By my mum I was told to wear underwear.. her view was simply if something happens in the night, you’re wearing underwear.(fire)
I seem to wash and put on clean underwear (briefs) nothing uncomfortable. Is it unhygienic to wear underwear to bed? I have on occasions not wore any but it’s such a habit now. I don’t wear my bra to bed. My mate thinks I’m bonkers wearing underwear to bed. Is it important to let our lady bits breath?

Knickers and pyjamas. I can't sleep naked I love wearing pants

GuntyMcGee · 26/05/2018 22:04

I wear pants to bed under my PJs.
In fact I have some pairs for day wear and others (bum coverers) for bed. If I didn't the seam of my pyjamas would ride up and wedgie front and back and I'd be uncomfortable. Plus if I get too hot I can whip the pjs off and still be covered.

My vagina doesn't need to 'breathe', it has no lungs.

Basta · 26/05/2018 22:06

... you aren’t meant to use a tampon overnight.

Really? Shock

Sparrowlegs248 · 26/05/2018 22:09

I do , currently on week 5 of a period. So not only knickers but a chuff off great sanitary pad too. I use washables.

No you shouldn't use tampons overnight due to increased risk of tss. Which I e had the misfortune to have twice despite not using tampons overnight.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 26/05/2018 22:10

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.. sometimes I wear pjs, sometimes I just sleep in the tshirt I have had on all evening...

I did once wake up in bed, under the duvet, fully dressed including lace up 4” heel ankle boots and my crushed velvet jacket 😁... ny mother was seriously unimpressed. (I was about 18 and had staggered in at some ungodly hour and noisily tried to sneak to bed)

Tiddlywinks63 · 26/05/2018 22:13

I've never worn knickers in bed in my life, other than during a period. As for wearing them under pyjama pants, why? Just wash your pj's more often!
😊

Doilooklikeatourist · 26/05/2018 22:13

But with a duvet covering you , why on earth do you need pants and PJ bottoms
I wear a nightie , or go naked
Secretions ?
Change the bedding ( doesn’t that get done daily anyway ) [ not in my house ].
I’m far too old for periods anyway , but only wore pants on the bad days

Medical advice is that underwear - even cotton underwear - creates a warm moist environment that promotes thrush. If you are prone to thrush it is best to avoid it.

If you are not prone to thrush wear whatever you like.

2rebecca · 26/05/2018 22:15

No underwear in bed unless heavy period when I used to have them. I did wear tampons as well as a pad then though. never worn a bra to bed, am usually glad to wear one as little as possible. Usually nude in summer but night attire in winter as Scotland and no heating on at night.
Have never seen a creepy crawly in my bed.
You're less likely to get thrush and intertrigo if you don't permanently clothe areas. If you don't enclose your genitals and make them hot they'll sweat less.
It seem off wearing underwear if you don't have to but if people feel more comfortable that way then it's fine.
Both my husband prefer to sleep nude. If I started a relationship with a man and he wouldn't go to sleep without his pants on I'd think he was weird.

Helipad · 26/05/2018 22:20

I wear a soft cotton bra type of thing, a vest over it and cotton knickers to bed. I hate my bazookas lolling about and just don't like sleeping in the nude. Last time I had a thrush was 2002 I think and my fanny hasn't dropped off yet despite me wearing knickers to bed every night.

Helipad · 26/05/2018 22:24

If I didn't the seam of my pyjamas would ride up and wedgie front and back and I'd be uncomfortable.

This ^ I wouldn't be able to wear pyjamas without knickers underneath. The seams would ride up, rub and just be uncomfortable. I just like to feel "tucked in".

wendywoopywoo222 · 26/05/2018 22:24

Always sleep naked. Apart from if I'm
Sharing a bed with a freind and then I wear pyjamas.

Lethaldrizzle · 26/05/2018 22:26

Tampons can be worn up to 8 hours day or night.

OpiningGambit · 26/05/2018 22:26

If I sleep without knickers my pubes get tangled and pull, and wake me up! Blush

SleepingBooty · 26/05/2018 22:28

Only first couple of nights of period and after sex. Other than that I like being sleeping au natural.

bluerunningshoes · 26/05/2018 22:28

I wear knickers and pj's in bed. never had thrush.
the breathing argument is bullshit.
if you are prone to thrush, your other half should be treated as well and bedding/towels/underwear boilwashed.

Lethaldrizzle · 26/05/2018 22:29

The rate of tss is apparently 1 or 2 in 100,000. I think I'm going to carry on with my nightime tampon habit.

DrinkYourGreenTea · 26/05/2018 22:30

This is clearly a troll thread. Mumsnet, please delete.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/05/2018 22:30

I tend to wear clean knickers and a t shirt to bed. Sometimes I sleep naked but not usually. I think I started to wear knickers and top in bed when we had dc and they climbed into bed with us. And the habit has stuck even though those days have long gone.

I'm in my 50s and have never had thrush.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 26/05/2018 22:36

I'm amazed how many people wear pants in bed. It's not an idea that has ever occurred to me, apart from postnatally which I hated. I avoid pants whenever possible. My fanny loves to breathe. It's the Sister Maria of fannies, swirling on the mountains..

Moussemoose · 26/05/2018 22:44

I'm really glad some of you never get thrush. Good for you, you are very lucky. Those of us who are prone to thrush know that wearing underwear at night does not help and can make it worse.

madeyemoodysmum · 26/05/2018 22:48

As far as I'm aware a fanjo doesn't lead to the lungs so it has no need to breath

robotcartrainhat · 26/05/2018 22:48

Sometimes. Only knickers tho.. would never wear a bra to bed! And cotton knickers, any other material is a bit grim for sweat and might give you thrush.
Wear a tshirt in the winter and nothing on top in the summer.

Zoflorabore · 26/05/2018 23:21

Pyjamas are fresh on every day for me, even though I wear knickers.

Only wear the bottoms though with one of my many vests. Can't stand being too warm. Tonight it's warm and I've just got vest and knickers on.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 26/05/2018 23:24

I never used to as a kid but always now, you never know when you might have To get up with the kids or other reasons so best just to do so.
