To wear underwear to bed?

This is so Random but I really want to know! Do you wear underwear to bed?
As a kid I was told by my stepmom to let it all breath, and be free from underwear.
By my mum I was told to wear underwear.. her view was simply if something happens in the night, you’re wearing underwear.(fire)
I seem to wash and put on clean underwear (briefs) nothing uncomfortable. Is it unhygienic to wear underwear to bed? I have on occasions not wore any but it’s such a habit now. I don’t wear my bra to bed. My mate thinks I’m bonkers wearing underwear to bed. Is it important to let our lady bits breath?

I wear long t shirt and a fresh pair of knickers for bed
Have tried without and I just can’t sleep...feels odd !!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 26/05/2018 19:53

I always slept completely nude until having DC. Schelpping back and forth across the landing to the nursery with humongous milk filled bazookas many times a night soon cured me of that! I now sleep in a soft bra/crop top type thing and knickers. My mum always told me to sleep nude though to 'let it breathe' Grin

Given my currently rate of ambulances in the very early hours for my first born, I reckon I might carry on wearing PJ's and pants to bed!

cushioncovers · 26/05/2018 19:57

Am I the only person who doesn't breathe through my vagina and butthole? I breathe through my nose and sometimes mouth.

starryflamingo · 26/05/2018 19:58

I don't. I like to let it get a bit of a break from being trussed up. I have pair of pm bottoms by the bed though that I could grab in case of fire.

Doctors told me to not wear underwear to bed to “air” everything and not to wear it in the day either if I could help it.

Jengnr · 26/05/2018 20:03

Doctors told me to not wear underwear to bed to “air” everything and not to wear it in the day either if I could help it.

But WHY?

Why does it need so much air? Nowhere else does.

Will it die? Hmm

Undercoverbanana · 26/05/2018 20:05

Etymology - did this doctor have an actual certificate or anything?

Etymology23 · 26/05/2018 20:07

It was a GP at a UK practice, to try to prevent recurrent thrush.

To be fair, I can’t imagine other mucus membranes would be hugely happy to be permenantly enclosed in cotton/acrylic.

MysweetAudrina · 26/05/2018 20:08

I do as my hands wander otherwise and i end up with mingy fingers.

anewyear · 26/05/2018 20:20

I'm nearly 52, I have always worn a nightie (as a child) or a tshirt and knickers to bed.
Have never had thrush..,

metalmum15 · 26/05/2018 20:26

I wear knickers but nothing else, I'm 40s and have never had thrush. I have a friend who gets it a lot so I think some people are just more prone to it than others.

Fluffyears · 26/05/2018 20:34

I have extremely heavy periods and never use tampons (tilted cervix means they hurt me). I put on 3 pads and have never slept with a tampon in. Son you don’t need them if you have heavy periods. I normally wake up due to them being heavy and change my pads through the night. I actually want some leak proof scants just for peace of mind.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 26/05/2018 20:38

I don't wear knickers if I'm wearing pj bottoms but I will if I'm wearing a nightie. Never wear a bra for bed.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 26/05/2018 20:43

I sleep naked but keep my PJs beside the bed to pull on if needed. I put on PJs (no underwear) after I wash before bed while I potter then take them off when I actually get into bed. DH does the same.

Moussemoose · 26/05/2018 20:50

Not everyone gets thrush but if you have a tendency to get thrush knickers in bed make it worse. They promote a warm moist environment, wearing nothing allows more fresh air to circulate.

BossWitch · 26/05/2018 20:54

YABU to wear anything to bed. I'm naked and free!!

Maelstrop · 26/05/2018 21:07

Knickers in case smooge juice goes on the sheets.

QueenUnicorn · 26/05/2018 21:13

Anyway, I hesitate to be the first to mention it as no one else has, but...what about secretions? Especially those of us with mild nocturnal bladder leakage. Nothing worse than sloshing around in moisture all night
Sloshing - love it.

Zoflorabore · 26/05/2018 21:14

Always wore knickers to bed and have never had thrush in my life, I'm 40.

Both of my dc sleep completely naked all year round.

8DaysAWeek · 26/05/2018 21:38

Always wear pants in bed. Genuine reason being I don't want any creepy crawlies scurrying over regions they don't belong... Blush
Got this thought in my head when I was younger and it won't go away now!

Wellthisunexpected · 26/05/2018 21:38

I get awful thrush is I wear underwear in bed, even skinny fit pj bootoms do that to me. But if you don't then do as you wish!

metalmum15 · 26/05/2018 21:47

smooge juice 😂😂

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 26/05/2018 21:58

I wear nighties. Those of you who wear pjs, so you wash the bottoms every morning? Otherwise don't they get a bit...whiffy?

sherazade · 26/05/2018 22:02

I don't get why your labia need to 'breathe'.
Cotton underwear is absorbent and usually breathable if you think your bits need to breathe . I'd imagine everything getting sticky and sweaty without cotton knickers on at night to absorb sweat/ fluids.
