Fat and fabulous

highchairhell · 24/05/2018 18:17

So I am fat. I like food too much to lose weight and after spending years of my life worrying about my waistline, I've had enough.

I want to look good this summer and see fabulous fat women all the time ... what is the secret to looking fat and fabulous?! Aibu to think that you can still look brilliant at 18 stone?! I just want fashion tips please, not judgement or weight loss advice! Thanks

I've been a size 8-10 and I've been a size 20 and everywhere in between. Personally (and this is just me) I find it really really hard to dress and look good when I am bigger. What a revelation it was when I was size 10 to walk into a shop and be able to wear absolutely anything in that shop. I loved every minute of being small. I miss cinched in waists with wide belts etc. I loved fashion, I loved shopping, now it's just a chore trying to find clothes that make me look less weight than I am. Sorry to put a dampener on the thread, good on you OP for embracing your weight, I wish I could.

The only thing I'd say is... it's harder to wear weight the older you get (I'm old!) I have a knee injury which I know would heal quicker if I were lighter... I'm at a size 16 and working hard to lose weight so basically OP I admire you if you are happy in your skin, I hate being bigger. I shall watch this thread with interest and see if I can get inspiration!

Noqont · 25/05/2018 07:24

Got nothing better to do Lola than jump in and be spiteful? Is it not good enough for the fat people to be happy? Are we not understanding the error of our ways well enough for you? Does all the merriment make you want to step in and take us down a peg or two for daring to be fat and happy? Bit of a twat are you?

Hotpinkangel19 · 25/05/2018 07:29

YANBU but don't you want to lose weight? I'm 16 stone - 19 weeks post giving birth but while I don't think I look horrendous I'm not healthy. My BMI is raised, I'm obese, the fat layers are putting pressure on my organs, I'm at more risk of obesity related diseases. I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to be the healthiest 'you' you can be?

ScreamingValenta · 25/05/2018 07:34

Hotpinkangel19 The OP explains that in her first post.

@JaretsGirlfren I absolutely love that black pinafore outfit!

Noqont · 25/05/2018 07:35

I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to be the healthiest 'you' you can be?

Ermm, I think it explains that in the op Confused

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 25/05/2018 07:39

I admire you OP. As women we waste so much of our lives worrying about our weight and delaying enjoyment until we feel we deserve it.

In today’s food porn culture it’s so hard to lose weight if you have a bad metabolism.

There’s got to come a time when you say “fuck it. I’m not going to waste any more time feeling crap. Life is too short!”.

Anyway I do know 2 overweight women who look good. I would say nice clothes and immaculate shiny hair are the things they have in common.

Bad metabolism??

Why not exercise to boost it then?Confused

Noqont · 25/05/2018 08:17

Why not exercise to boost it then?

Oh another one full of helpful unwanted advice. They keep crawling out of the woodwork.

while I salute your confidence you do really need to think of long term health not what clothess suit you. Life is indeed short as you say

I'm sure noone ever thought of that until you pointed it out Hmm

BakedBeans47 · 25/05/2018 08:17

Oh bugger off lola

Can’t you read? The OP neither asked for, nor wants, your opinion.

Ollivander84 · 25/05/2018 08:19

Just because I'm fat doesn't mean I don't exercise Hmm
I can do spin, ride my horse, pole fitness, aerial hoop, lift weights etc. The only thing I can't do is run or lift v heavy weights and that's because of a medical issue, not my weight

RussianBluee · 25/05/2018 08:21

Its confidence.. it makes you radiate and smile effortlessly and you carry yourself better and dress more like you. Self love and confidence will make you take better care of yourself.

RunMummyRun68 · 25/05/2018 08:21

Ah well noqont whatever! I was replying to someone else upthread actually

Plenty of very valid points on this thread

Ethylred · 25/05/2018 08:21

People who think that 18 stone is fabulous will think you look fabulous.
Others, not.

userabcname · 25/05/2018 08:26

Good underwear! I found a good bra revolutionised my look post-baby when I was feeling fat and flabby. Also don't drown yourself in baggy clothes - I actually think it makes you look bigger. Well fitting clothes are best!

DaphneDiligaf · 25/05/2018 08:26

Another smelly lazy fatty here! Strangely people often remark on my smell, in fact when people come into my office they say what's that lovely smell? Yes it's perfume!
I am older than a lot of you so I am a bit fussy about co-ordination, my shoes and bag always match and I try to ensure my shoes pick out a colour in my outfit. Guess what I get told I look nice. And incidentally my BP, cholesterol and blod sugar levels are all normal.
Loving this thread (although I missed the now blocked out comments), such a shame when women can't support other women. X

RussianBluee · 25/05/2018 08:27

God i knew thered be posts putting a downer..so predictable HmmThis is not the point of the thread... you just couldnt resist could you Grin

Raisinshoes · 25/05/2018 08:37

Oh Lola, your concern is so touching.

In the spirit of this thread, im going to the beach on this lovely sunny day, to shout at every one with a tan. They cost the NHS millions in mole removal and skin cancer treatments every year. I’m sure they’ll be grateful in the end.

God forbid I see any joggers. That’s knee surgery waiting to happen, and I can’t wait to tell them they’re a financial drain on the country.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/05/2018 09:14

How is being unkind and hurtful going to help people who are overweight Lola?

What do you get out of posting crap like that?

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2018 09:17

OP, if you currently wear jeans and baggy tops, and don't think that skirts/dresses suit your lifestyle, here's what I'd do:

Get a couple of pairs of really good jeans. This takes quite a lot of work(!) but once you've found some that fit you well, get more than one pair! Personally, I like straight or even bootcut, but you might prefer slim or skinny. Experiment! Try on a ton of pairs. Also, wear good knickers with them.

Invest in some fitted tops. These don't have to be tight, but try some that actually fit closer to your body. Show off a cleavage if you like. Work out what colours suit you. Don't think they have to be long enough to cover hips/bum/whatever - people can still see what size you are, whatever you're wearing. If you're tall, longer length tops can be good, if you're shorter, I'd avoid them. But again, try on lots of things and see what works for you. Aim to get a mix of casual and smarter things. If you try something on and it makes you smile, buy it.

And then, get great accessories. Shoes, bags, jewellery, whatever - you can buy these anywhere! I love going into skinny girl shops and ignoring all the rude stares to get a good bag or scarf or something.

Have fun!

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2018 09:18

Oh, also, try leggings with skirts/dresses. That's basically my uniform.

Noqont · 25/05/2018 09:18

Ah well noqont whatever! I was replying to someone else upthread actually

And I was responding to your comment. Hth.

JaretsGirlfren · 25/05/2018 09:25

Screaming thank you Smile

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 25/05/2018 09:29

I think a smile is always in order.

Some excellent floral dresses are excellent for the larger lady (I'm a size 16 and only 12st 4 but am just over 5ft).

Anyone can look fabulous if they a) believe it and b) aren't afraid to show they believe it.

user1471459936 · 25/05/2018 09:31

Jogging doesn't cause knee problems. Unless you are grossly overweight. In fact it builds up muscles around the bone structure to help support the knees.
