Fat and fabulous

highchairhell · 24/05/2018 18:17

So I am fat. I like food too much to lose weight and after spending years of my life worrying about my waistline, I've had enough.

I want to look good this summer and see fabulous fat women all the time ... what is the secret to looking fat and fabulous?! Aibu to think that you can still look brilliant at 18 stone?! I just want fashion tips please, not judgement or weight loss advice! Thanks

Why do your small children rule out dresses and skirts - do you mean they might mess them up? At the moment, do you have separate wardrobes for wearing around the house; going out in the day and going out in the evenings?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/05/2018 19:44

Of course you can. I'm sizÉ™ 26 and have never had any problems getting attracting men. I take extreme care of my appearance.
Long long gone are the days when you have to be skinny to get out. I've got no intention of ever losing weight.

LightDrizzle · 24/05/2018 20:32

I’m not big myself, but the friends and public figures I think look great and are big, have well cut glossy hair; good make-up or skin; confidence, confidence, confidence, wear nice fabrics; layer well; use blocks of colour well like scarves, accessorize well; wear statement jewellery, especially earrings.
I think the least flattering look is retreating into shapeless, blah greige or pastels, or, conversely wearing things that are too small.
India Knight at her largest always looked scrumptious. I know some of the above are cliches that may make some people grind their teeth, but honestly that is my personal observation. One of my daughter’s social workers dressed this way and looked really nice, I think the short Indian kurti/ tunic plus jeans/slim trousers and scarf is a very safe but comfortable and stylish fail safe.

Thanks for that tip @bridgetreilly about sea salt - my bank account is £££ lighter now!!

Yes you are. Some people might say you can but most people would say, no, you can’t you just look very fat. Moreover, as well as that, people will subconsciously judge you as being idle, greedy, etc. Not all, but most.

HoardingQueen · 24/05/2018 22:42

Whether you are big or small, the main thing to do is to look as if you have cared for yourself, clothes that fit regardless of what the size label says, good quality fabrics, a style that looks 'put together' , hair, skin and nails looking the best you can. You can be lighter in weight and still look crap if you don't care how you look, one of my best friends has a bit of a capsule wardrobe going on, she wears a combo of black, red, navy and white trousers, plain coloured quality t shirts and well cut jackets, smart bags, low heeled shoes but classic style (not a slouchy pair of trainers or t bar flats !), occasional scarf thrown in, and never without her deep red lippy, when we are all out together, she is the one with the admiring glances form both males and females. If you care about yourself it shows, go girl :)

fluffyrobin · 24/05/2018 22:43

People say confidence, confidence, big smile but what if you don't feel confident knowing full well carrying huge amounts of lard is unhealthy, makes one sweat more and possibly smell bad without realising?!

I think it just adds pressure to pretend to be confident ifswim.

HoardingQueen · 24/05/2018 22:44

I meant to say, my friend is size 18-20

JaretsGirlfren · 24/05/2018 22:46

Trying to add photos but I’m a bit of a technophobe so apologies if they don’t appear! I’m a size 18, bigger than what I’d like to be but I’ve been bigger (and smaller) I think I look alright! It’s just about finding what suits you OP Smile

Fluffyrobin did you mean to come across as so unkind?

JaretsGirlfren · 24/05/2018 22:57

P.s I don’t sweat excessively and I actually smell gorgeous Hmm Grin

CaptainBrickbeard · 24/05/2018 22:57

Follow some plus size bloggers on Instagram for ideas. They get criticised a lot on here but will give you a sense of how things will look. I have similar measurements to fuller figure fuller bust so I know things that suit her will generally work for my shape. Obviously I can’t do anything about my terrible stench but at least I look nice (to a deluded minority obvs, everyone else faints clean away with horror at the sight of my size 18 frame out in public wearing clothes in all of my greedy, lazy hideousness).

Oswin · 24/05/2018 23:00

Jarets you look amazing. I really like those dresses, where are they from?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/05/2018 23:03

I wonder if these spiteful posters have ever caught sight of their snarls in a mirror?

I agree with others that being well groomed can help. Not necessarily made up, but nice hair and nails is always good.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/05/2018 23:04

How old are you Jarets? (You look lovely)

UrgentScurryfunge · 24/05/2018 23:10

Get clothes that are cut and fit well and work with your shape. Clothes that are designed for size 12 don't necessarily scale to the ends of the size range well.

Different body shapes have different assets, apples have great legs, pears have smaller waists etc. Show off your stronger points.

Be bold, not necesarily bright but a kind of confidence rather than hiding away.
Groomed hair and make-up.

WittyJack · 24/05/2018 23:14

I do think it makes a difference if you have a smaller waist like jarets - you can show it off and look sexy and voluptuous (as she does!).

Whereas if you're a stupid apple like me, you have slim legs and arms and genuinely tiny bum, but a massive gut and boobs. Do you look massive whatever you wear. I often feel like a tennis 🎾 perched on top of two pipe cleaners!

WittyJack · 24/05/2018 23:15

*so, not do!

JaretsGirlfren · 24/05/2018 23:16

Thank you Oswin and Testing ! Blush I’m 27, the velvet dress is from New Look and the other is from H&M.

JaretsGirlfren · 24/05/2018 23:17

Witty thank you! (I would love slim legs!)

HerMajestysSecret · 24/05/2018 23:17

Are you sure you're a size 18?

You look lovely OP. Cute figure, great waist.

HerMajestysSecret · 24/05/2018 23:18

Oops, sorry OP, you didn't post pictures. That was to jarets

Fluffyears · 24/05/2018 23:21

Just because some items go up to plus size does not mean they look good. Alsomskways wear clothes that fit and not something that digs in and make you look like a pillow tied in the middle. I’m afraid I need to go and have someone sniff my size 18 body to let me know if I stink. I don’t sweat much though so I must be doing fat wrong!

JaretsGirlfren · 24/05/2018 23:22

Thank you HerMaj I am most definitely a size 18 though!

Ofthread · 24/05/2018 23:22

Yanbu but I think a lot depends on how you carry. My mate looks great at this kind of size and it’s partly amazing skin and partly no double chin. As soon as I put on an ounce I goes on my chin and I just can’t pull it off.
