To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

Zara absolutely average size. And looks good! Princess Anne never gave a damn about fashion or looks at all - she's sport orientated.

Zara is average size and looks good but she isn't very slim or thin and certainly 40 years ago wouldn't have been regarded as a thin woman. Nothing wrong with that. Anne at Zara's age was slimmer than her daughter is. She is slimmer now actually - she can wear clothes that are 20 years old.

formerbabe · 23/05/2018 23:35

I read once that within society the fattest people are rich men and poor women. The thinnest people are rich women and poor men. I think that's very true.

MrsLupo · 23/05/2018 23:38

Oh please, can't we get over judging people on their weight and their appearance.

Who's judging? If anything, I think people are sympathetic.

pallisers · 23/05/2018 23:39

Mrslupo, I suppose I just don't get the Kate is underweight thing - she is pretty skinny but not outside the range of normal and it certainly has zero effect on her health. My sister, 25 years ago, didn't look pregnant until past the 6 months and even then barely from the side. She is still as slim as Kate in her 50s with a great figure and certainly doesn't live on fish and steamed veg (eats neither as a matter of fact).

Maybe there is a normalization of extreme thinness though - worth thinking about.

I do think the normalization of being overweight is more prevalent. When I moved to the US from Ireland 20 plus years ago I was shocked at how overweight people were. Now - in Ireland and in the UK - when I visit home I don't see that much of a difference.

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 23/05/2018 23:42

pall er..but that's what I was saying - Zara is a very attarctive average size woman, not thin. To me she has more personality too than Kate or Meghan.

DayAtTheRaces · 23/05/2018 23:42

I think that Meghan looks amazing, really healthy in a video she did, grilling (barbecuing) burgers for the “Men’s Health” magazine.

I am useless at posting links but if you go to YouTube you can search for “Men’s Health Grilling Never Looked So Hot with Meghan Markle”

Ruffian · 23/05/2018 23:46

Surely the point is they aren't 'happy in their skin' - they're following the sad tradition of Diana in trying to fulfill this fairy princess role which requires an abnormal clothes-horse thinness.

RedDwarves · 23/05/2018 23:47

I saw Kate in Australia when they brought George over for their royal tour. She looked absolutely fine to me. Her weight certainly didn't ring any alarm bells in my mind.

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 23/05/2018 23:48

Kate is really very thin (I saw her close up) but it's due to her frame - very narrow hips and tall (about 5'8''), and she's not busty. She's not unhealthy at all (her face is not gaunt), just that sort of body type, I also bet she's not one with a great appetite and/or fast metabolism. If she was unhealthy she would look MUCH paler, for one.
I like Camilla most of all Royals - lots of personality and humour, understated and never lost any weight after becoming Royal wife, yet has a bit of style of her own. But Kate is nice, I like her in a different way.

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 23/05/2018 23:50

*the most out of all Royals (ugh!)

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 23/05/2018 23:53

Meghan is such a go-getter (campaigning since her school years) and likes a direct approach - I wonder if the Royals will encourage it or will try to stifle it?

UserV · 23/05/2018 23:54

Kate is NOT that thin at all, she gave birth a month ago. Stop talking shit. And Meghan is not too thin either; just slim.

Quit the nasty body shaming. You sound jealous and bitter.

Pretty ironic having a name like @pleasedonthate when you are spouting negativity.

You need your glasses changing if you think either of these women are too thin! Hmm They look great.

Zara is a very attarctive average size woman, not thin

well to be completely frank, yes she is attractive but I think Zara is heavier than I would have liked to be at that age or my mum would have liked to be at that age. (obviously not talking about her pregnant). My friends and I were similar to her when young but thinner than her in our 30s which is her age- right?

I don't care what weight she is and I don't think she should either. But back in the 1980s in an ordinary city in Ireland, Zara would not have been regarded as an average looking 30-something but a slightly heavier-looking 30 something.

PleaseDontHate · 24/05/2018 00:01

UserV I repeated multiple times throughout the thread that I think they are both beautiful and look gorgeous. Not sure where this negativity you are talking about was.

I had never heard of Meghan until the engagement was on TV. The first thing I noticed were her legs. They were too thin, looked unhealthy and not remotely attractive. I do not know what exercise she is doing as their cannot be much muscle there. Kate never looked that thin. I think social media has bought these crazes of being too thin or too curvy with bum implants. Diana, a generation before admitted she had eating disorders but looked healthy and a normal, healthy size. It is getting mad that social media and everyone being able to take photos with phones everywhere is worse than the paparazzi, Diana faced.

Nanny0gg · 24/05/2018 00:06

Kate looks a lovely 'normal' weight in that picture. However she is only 3 weeks postpartum.

In a year's time she will be slimmer.

And it's not so much their bodies, it's their ultra-slim legs. They are too thin. As are most models, actresses and singers. And the women/girls that aspire to look like them.

When did a size 6 or 8 become the size to aspire to?

HelenaDove · 24/05/2018 00:13

YY Mrs Lupo. Youve nailed it.

Good point PG Nicola Horlick springs to mind.

Kate and Meghan are likely naturally slim.

Im 5 foot 5 and a busty hourglass whose weight wont go below 11 stone. Im happy but approaching 45 and perimenopausal so it gets harder. Doable but harder.

HelenaDove · 24/05/2018 00:14

Not asking for advice btw just to clarify.

HelenaDove · 24/05/2018 00:16

I love the dress Meghan wore for the evening do

LionAllMessy · 24/05/2018 00:22

I don't think a sample size of two is really big enough for us to draw any statistical conclusions.

You might as well ask why they both have brown hair. "Why does it seem like brown hair is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?"

UserV · 24/05/2018 00:30

@pleasedonthate I couldn't give a shit what you have said in drip feed subsequent posts. I am responding to your ORIGINAL POST.

You can't make nasty comments like you did in your first post and then backtrack and backpedal, and expect people to not be pissed off at your first set of rude comments.

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 24/05/2018 00:38

Why do we feel the need to discuss other people’s weight? What is the point? We criticise for too skinny or too fat instead of leaving people to just be happy with their lives

UserV · 24/05/2018 00:49

EXACTLY ^

Juiceylucy09 · 24/05/2018 01:07

I would say they are both a healthy BMI. The world's gone mad judging a healthy weight.

I told my sister after a gp visit, My Doctor said I had a healthy BMI 22, she looked at me and said jesus juicey sometimes I look at you and cringe you are so thin.

PleaseDontHate · 24/05/2018 02:11

UserV Nasty things? Hmm Like what exactly? Cab you please quote?
