To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

they are young good looking women. easy to understand why most men would find either one attractive. easy to understand why most women would like to be like them size and style.

HelenaDove · 24/05/2018 02:44

Well im perfectly happy in my own skin Grasslands. As im sure Meghan and Kate are i dont think that "most" women want to emulate a celeb at all.

1forAll74 · 24/05/2018 03:00

Both Meghan, and Prince Harry looked much slimmer for their wedding day, after their engagement photo's. I think they had a month or so of super exercise and super healthy food. And probably the same for Catherine after the birth of her son. They both have to wear some fab clothes at all the functions, and slim is the way to go.

I don't think its anything to do with being in the RF, its just the two intelligent, and modern women who want to keep fit, and look good, and they have everything at their disposal to do so I assume.

choli · 24/05/2018 03:17

Should they put on weight to make you feel better OP?

stopgap · 24/05/2018 03:19

They’re rich society women, the vast majority of whom are exceptionally skinny. They both work out, and beyond that who’s to say whether they consume 1000 calories a day or 2000.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 24/05/2018 03:21

I persoanlly don’t think either of them look especially thin. But even if they did, what’s it to anyone? Why do you care what someone else’s body is like? Concentrate on yourself instead.

It's the 21st century. Why are we commenting on other women's weight? Is that all that matters about women?

As others have stated - we're in a society where being thin is desirable and yet increasingly unachievable in the obesogenic world we live in. They are both required to look good, they no doubt feel the pressure and most importantly they have the time and resources to achieve it - personal trainers, healthy foods prepared for them etc.

I used to think that Kate had become too thin but then she managed to get pregnant 3 times in a fairly short amount of time so I think she is fine. I'm actually on the rather slim side myself and got married at the same age as MM and I have struggled with infertility ever since. I hope (well again she will have unlimited resources in this regard) that she doesn't have issues.

Is being anything other than very thin a sign of unintelligence or a lack of modernity, then?

YouAreNotImportant · 24/05/2018 05:03

If there was a thread complaining that a few female royals are overweight, posters would be outraged.

But no of course it's fine to criticise weight if you want to say you think they're too thin.

I looked like them for years. The faux concern that I had an eating disorder (I don't) was just as fucking annoying as the comments about me needing a good feed, must eat like a bird bla bla bla.

Always by much heavier women. No comments from men about my weight, no comments from women of a similar size.

Nooblynoo · 24/05/2018 05:05

Why don't you write to them and ask them how they feel. They might be thin to you but might not feel they are, they may well be happy and have always been like that. And anyway this is akin to body shaming.

ShamelesslyPlacemarking · 24/05/2018 05:21

Back a few pages now but those pics posted by @Sprinklesinmyelbow of Meghan's terribly skinny legs are a bit misleading.

The photos are pap shots, taken at close range from head height with a wide-angle lens to get her all in. When a wide angle lens is tilted like that it makes the thing that's closest to it (her head) look bigger and whatever's further away look smaller and more elongated (feet and lower legs).

I'm not saying Meghan isn't slim, she clearly is, but those photos are distorting her legs and feet to make them look longer and skinnier.

SerenDippitty · 24/05/2018 06:22

This is Kate’s at college. If she’s “naturally thin” she must have been eating rather a lot back then.

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
SakuraBlossom · 24/05/2018 06:41

We need someone to marry into the royal family with massive boobs and who wears low tops to add a bit of balance to the skinny brigade.

Pengggwn · 24/05/2018 06:47

SerenDippitty

She is no more than a size 8 in that picture. Please don't present very slim women as 'eating a lot'. She looks absolutely lovely and healthy, but she is definitely a 'thin' person.

TeasndToast · 24/05/2018 06:47

I think they are both normal healthy weights. I think lots of people think they are thin because we’ve become such a nation of fatties we no longer know what a healthy weight actually looks like.

AviatorShades · 24/05/2018 06:49

I too remember pics of kate at university, glad you've posted one, Seren.

I'm reminded of the duchess of Windsor (have I got it right - Wallis Simpson)'s quote "you can never be too rich - or too thin". Seems that still applies.Hmm

ferntwist · 24/05/2018 06:50

I agree OP. It’s very noticeable. The camera doesn’t add 10lbs, the poster who said that above is mistaken.

Juells · 24/05/2018 06:51

@gobbynorthernbird

Did you miss when Sarah Ferguson got the absolute piss ripped out of her for not being tiny? Because that was vile and something I wouldn't want to put up with.

Wasn't she reduced at one time to holding up a placard that said something like "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant" because of the constant sniping?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/05/2018 06:51

They both have slim mother’s and are both sporty.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/05/2018 06:53

Both York girls have nice figures & big bosoms. I hope they have a bit of confidence to at least wear V necks. Beatrice had a stylist after the loo seat hat fiasco. I hope they hire one again.

notafeeling · 24/05/2018 06:53

I think Kate did lose a lot of weight in the public eye and is very slim but she doesn't look unhealthy to me.

Her face is healthy, skin is good and she is clearly extremely fit.

I had anorexia in my twenties and definitely looked unhealthy; it's because my natural size is more of a 10. Kate and Meghan appear to be naturally very slim.

SerenDippitty · 24/05/2018 06:57

I wasn’t. I was trying to point out that she looks a healthy weight in that picture, but she’s a lot thinner now.

Pengggwn · 24/05/2018 06:59

SerenDippitty

Right. She is definitely naturally thin, though. She isn't thinner than that, now, in my opinion.

SerenDippitty · 24/05/2018 07:02

Yes she is.
