To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

PleaseDontHate · 23/05/2018 20:59

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

You seem to be looking for validation that the royal family are demanding their women be a certain size?

PleaseDontHate · 23/05/2018 21:59

RunMummy Being a size 8 I don't think I look particularly fat, if that is what you were implying Wink

But I'd probably look huge next to them!

@Emillizz wtf? Your GP sounds utterly thick if he thought you were too thin at those measurements. I’m 4 inches taller and 1/2 a stone lighter and not even thin Shock I don’t think you can compare your GPS weirdness with the general public thinking that’s too thin.

Diana was anorexic, lest we forget

PleaseDontHate · 23/05/2018 22:01

"You seem to be looking for validation that the royal family are demanding their women be a certain size?"

I just wanted to spark a conversation about an observation, of course you can disagree with me if so you wish.

Do we seriously think that this is "what a healthy weight looks like"?

I know several people with figures like that. None of them are underweight and they all lead healthy lifestyles. One is a marathon runner, but the others are just "normal" women who exercise regularly and eat healthy diets.

Even if people think they are too thin, why the need for the derogatory comments? What do you gain from calling a stranger emaciated, scrawny or gaunt? (not you OP, but PP's who have called both women those names).

Is it acceptable because they're in the public eye? Or because they're strangers and not your mum/daughter/best friend/sister?

dontbesillyhenry · 23/05/2018 22:02

It's like when someone posts a picture of a skeletal looking model people fall over themselves to say its normal they are that thin themselves it's all natural and it's everyone else's fault for being too fat
Utterly bizzare

adaline · 23/05/2018 22:03

Personally I would both women at the lower end of healthy, but healthy nonetheless. The healthy BMI range is pretty considerable - there's a three stone or so range where you can be "healthy" before you go from underweight to overweight.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 22:03

It is bizarre dontbesillyhenry but I’ve come to the conclusion that these threads bring out the anorexics.

UrgentScurryfunge · 23/05/2018 22:03

In my county, 66% of adults are overweight or obese. That means only a third are a healthy weight or under, so people at the low end of a healthy BMI are a minority and will look "thin" compared to average even when they are not.

To produce 3 children in 5 years, your body must be on decent form. The HG of the DoC has been widely reported in each pregnancy which will have affected her appetite and pregnancy gains. Having access to personal trainers and chefs means that you exercise efficiently and have a nourishing diet that meets your needs.

I'm a healthy weight and exercise frequently, but I'm sure those lifestyle benefits could reduce my BMI a bit more!

ToadsforJustice · 23/05/2018 22:06

Emilizz34 - I hope the GP asked you to weigh yourself.

senioritabonita · 23/05/2018 22:07

My DB is a fashion photographer. He says its way to be thin when you have a hen, a personal trainer and a spa pass Grin

PrettyLovely · 23/05/2018 22:08

Megan and kate both looked perfectly fine at the wedding the other day I actually think its strange the way some people are describing them here.

Anorexia? That's a mental illness you are mocking there....why?

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 22:11

How is that mocking?

StarUtopia · 23/05/2018 22:11

It's their body type firstly. There's no way a prince would ever have even looked at someone like me..I'd personally have to be anorexic to be that thin..my body is just not built like that (legs half the length of theirs for starters)

Secondly, add in money and a chef and a gym routine. Easy for a naturally slim person to stay skinny.

MM legs don't look right in that picture though - is that real?

reallyanotherone · 23/05/2018 22:12

There’s always one rude fucker who has to point out that anyone who is over 8.5 st is a lard arse, and how could anyone possibly think you were thin.

It happens again and again on here. It depends a lot on build. I’ve met people 5’4 who’ve told me they were 10st and been utterly shocked because they do look thin.

Anyway. I do think kate and meghan look slightly on the thin side. But i think they almost have to be- for reasons pointed out here.

PrettyLovely · 23/05/2018 22:13

Sprinkle it was a stupid comment to make.

RunMummyRun68 · 23/05/2018 22:16

sprinkle it has a tone to it. It's certainly not a nice comment is it?

Glad I'm not the only one who picked up on it

Rudgie47 · 23/05/2018 22:17

They are thin because they will eat things like chicken breasts without the skin, steamed fish, fresh fruit and salads and veg all the time. Its not rocket science this is what they will be having.
They will also stick to this and wont be eating crisps, biscuits, cakes, sweets chocolates, chips, big chunks of bread etc.
If everyone followed a strict healthy eating programme they would all be slimish, unless theres something medically wrong with you.

FlyingElbows · 23/05/2018 22:19

Sprinkle's comment isn't stupid, it's an accurate observation. These threads always bring out the ed sufferers who go to great lengths to promote their disordered approach to weight and eating. There's another thread running just now where exactly the same thing is happening. A poster looking for advice on calorie restricting being advised to consider 800 calories a day as healthy! It happens on every one of these threads.

adaline · 23/05/2018 22:20

Not everyone who is naturally slim has an eating disorder Hmm how offensive!

Zintox · 23/05/2018 22:20

I’ve met Kate. She was worryingly thin. If my daughter were that thin I’d be concerned for her health. She is not a normal healthy size. She’s much smaller than a size 8 or she was when I met her.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 22:21

reallyanotherone a GP thought the poster was underweight. At 5ft4 and 9.5 stone. That’s nowhere near underweight - stones away from it.

I think it’s neither stupid nor has a tone. There has to be some reason why so many posters insist it’s not possible to be underweight.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 22:22

Adeline- who is naturally slim? Don’t know who you’re talking about.

pallisers · 23/05/2018 22:23

My DB is a fashion photographer. He says its way to be thin when you have a hen, a personal trainer and a spa pass grin

I'm going to start with the hen and see what happens.

I think Kate looks a bit better with about 5 extra pounds - it shows on her face and she looks less gaunt.

But neither of them look too thin to me. My sister has a similar figure to MM (and she is in her 50s now) - she lucked out with metabolism etc. I live in the US so a lot of people are very heavy. But loads of young women, including mothers I meet at school, people at work, people in the grocery store are as slim as they are.

The duchess of cambridge has given birth to 3 healthy weight children - her weight seems fine.
