To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

I also think they look perfectly normal.

GreenMeerkat · 23/05/2018 21:48

They are both naturally slim. I don't think they are overly skinny.

Mrs Beckham on the other hand, did not look well at the wedding...

KurriKurri · 23/05/2018 21:48

Genetics must play some part - Kate's sister is also very slim, and Meghan's mum looks like a very petite woman.

Zoflorabore · 23/05/2018 21:48

Not everyone actually aspires to be thin though, I certainly don't.

I'm a size 18/20 so god yeah i need to lose quite a lot of weight, I have issues with being greedy and some of my medication has piled the weight on though I've never been thin in my life to start with.

I still wouldn't want to be skinny. To weigh less, of course.
I like my food too much and am attractive and confident so I would just be a fat princess Grin

LightAsTheBreeze · 23/05/2018 21:48

Probably lots of exercise and healthy fish, chicken and salad type of diet, They look similar to Victoria Beckham who is always being berated for being underweight but is probably in the same sort of low but healthy weight range.

PleaseDontHate · 23/05/2018 21:49

To PP who keeps saying that "we lost sight of what a healthy weight looks like", I don't think this is the case.

I live in Central London and I am surrounded by young, attractive and slim women. The Duchesses look far thinner than the slim women I see on the street, especially considering that cameras add a few pounds so they are probably even smaller than that in real life.

This total denial of anyone ever being too thin that only ever happens on here is just as dangerous as the denial that obesity is unhealthy.
In real life nobody I know would describe Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle as the norm weight wise but on here people fall over themselves to say very thin women are 'perfectly normal' whilst asserting they only weigh 40kg and are a size 2 but are of course perfectly healthy and it's because everyone is obese we have a skewed perception of normal

adaline · 23/05/2018 21:49

I don’t think OP was criticising at all. Just posing a question to start a discussion

OP may not have been criticising, but so many of the comments are. Kate and Meghan have been described as emaciated, drawn, gaunt and scrawny and that's within about 45 minutes of the first post!

I just don't see the need for nasty comments about other people's figures. It's really unpleasant and I would bet everyone making those comments would be angry as fuck if their child was the one being spoken about in that way.

merrymouse · 23/05/2018 21:51

Here is a picture of the Queen and Princess Anne with Prince Edward in the days before low-carbing and spin classes.

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
KurriKurri · 23/05/2018 21:51

I think it's true that people have lost sight of normality - I often get told I am thin (even medical professionals) - when in fact I am a good two stone overweight (near to obese in fact) but people think that is normal, and think that rather than them being overweight, thin people are underweight.

PleaseDontHate · 23/05/2018 21:51

Do we seriously think that this is "what a healthy weight looks like"?

In the photo Nicole Kidman looks larger than she normally is. Perhaps it was taken when she had had to gain weight for a role or not long after she had her daughter? I'd say that her arms are normally as slim as Kate's arms appear in the pic.

underestimation · 23/05/2018 21:52

I’m thin. Mainly because i like being thin and it’s not (currently) difficult for me to be thin. I’ve got thinner as i’ve got older. Having kids made me especially thin weirdly. People sometimes comment on how thin I am. I don’t mind but often they say things that would not be acceptable if I was fat. For example they tell me I would look better if I put on a few pounds whereas I would never tell somebody they should lose some. The thing I am trying to say is that being thin, sometimes very thin, doesn’t always mean terrible sacrifice and deprivation. It can become a habit but it isn’t always a bad one.

clumsyduck · 23/05/2018 21:53

Because society puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on women to look a certain way particularly those in the media.
The end.

dontbesillyhenry · 23/05/2018 21:53

And other women as well seemingly

I agree with this dontbesilly

Some people are naturally thin.

Nobody accepts you can be naturally fat though.

I do think Kate in particular could stand to gain a few pounds. Her head, hands and feet look too large for her body. And I think she looks older than her age.

PrettyLovely · 23/05/2018 21:54

They arent to thin though I am not in denial they look fine to me.

RunMummyRun68 · 23/05/2018 21:54

Yes dont she looks very very 'normal' to me!!

What do you look like? Maybe post a pic of yourself?

LightAsTheBreeze · 23/05/2018 21:55

Diana was also very slim and looked similar to that photo of Kate.

Fluffyears · 23/05/2018 21:55

Just look at their lifestyles though. They have the time, money and means to maintain the looks they have. I did read an interesting article about how the royals eat and how they live so long and cancer never seems to blight them. They eat fresh meat, fish and vegetables from their own estates a lot and a lot of berries, Scottish raspberries and strawberries from balmoral. Berries have a lot of anti-oxidants which can help prevent cancer. It was a really good article. They also like the outdoors and walking for miles when they can. Rather than working full-time, dashing into Sainsbury’s to pick up something that can go in the oven then lazing in front of telly thinking how tired they are and counting the hours till the weekend.

Agreed. MN is totally weird about weight, just look at some of the children's meals threads.

I'm often described as thin, but would look like I'd eaten one of them if I stood alongside them. I completely understand why they would maintain such slim figures but there is no point in denying that they're both very, very thin.

PleaseDontHate · 23/05/2018 21:56

Btw I think both women look absolutely gorgeous, as I previously stated. They are beautiful. I just wonder about the connection between being royal and being extra thin.

I agree too

clumsyduck · 23/05/2018 21:58

It's not a Royal thing though it's a celeb thing ! I'm the same as another poster said I am slim people often compliment me on figure , I would make 2 of them !!
