To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

What bride doesn't loose weight before wedding!!

Megan has been doing yoga with her mum since 7.
She used to run, does pilates.. Etc..

megletthesecond · 23/05/2018 21:28

They really aren't so thin.
They probably do pilates reformer and HIIT / bootcamp classes and have a personal chef for lots of their meals.
Plus their clothes are tailored to fit well. We'd all look better with well fitting clothes.

CocoaGin · 23/05/2018 21:28

They both look scrawny and emaciated to me (Kate to be fair looked lovely at the weekend with a few pregnancy lbs remaining). But if it is what makes them happy, then that's their choice. I doubt they'd swap for my lard arse Sad . I wouldn't want to live a day under the constant scrutiny that they face to be honest, they are nothing but clothes horses for the media at times.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 23/05/2018 21:29

I would live off smoked salmon and rocket in their position

The world is cruel to women that fall short of the accepted look Sad

eggncress · 23/05/2018 21:29

They probably have personal trainers and nutritionists to help them follow an exercise/ low carb boot camp regime

adaline · 23/05/2018 21:31

Why are women so negative about other women's bodies? It's so tiring. There's thread after thread on here criticising women for being too fat, too thin, too tanned, too pale - it's ridiculous.

Isn't being healthy and happy what matters?

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 21:31

I don’t think OP was criticising at all. Just posing a question to start a discussion

Bearhunter09 · 23/05/2018 21:32

Saw a picture of Kate the other day reminiscing to first public engagement after dhe got married. She was far too thin then in comparison to the size of her head. Now she looks ok - thinner than I would want to be but each to their own. Meghan looked great on her first engagement )actually better than on Saturday imo). But the pressure to look good and society equate thin with good must be immense. I actually like Eugenia and Beatrice who don’t give a fuck and wear what they like

EdWinchester · 23/05/2018 21:32

They both look scrawny and emaciated to me

Utterly ridiculous and they are neither. 2 women in ideal, healthy shape. Some people's view of what is healthy has become horribly skewed. We are supposed to be slim. It is the ideal for good health, not to mention it looks better.

NewYearNewMe18 · 23/05/2018 21:33

Jumping the thread - someone might have covered this already

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

I met Fergie when she was being slagged off as the Duchess of Pork, the woman is tiny, teeny tiny, she really can only have been a UK size 6 back then (this was 30 years ago) no way was she fat, she wasn't (IMHO) even a healthy weight.

The press scrutinise and crucify womens looks. Ably assisted by threads like this …..

MrsJakeLovell · 23/05/2018 21:33

Had this conversation in work the other day - girl in work didn't think Duchess of C was overly thin until I asked her to think of Nicole Kidman - a very slender woman.

Then I showed her this pic - KM looks tiny next to NK.

MM - when I look at her feet now they look large compared to her ankles. Def lost a few extra lbs.

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
BigGreenOlives · 23/05/2018 21:34

Women in London are thinner on average than women in the rest of the UK.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 21:34

Edwinchester you have no idea whether they are ideal or healthy sizes Confused

cherrytrees123 · 23/05/2018 21:35

When you see Kate before she got married she looks so much better - health and normal. I think she looks gaunt sometimes now, drawn and older than her age. She looks completely different. Meghan was also much less thin in former years. i think it's the pressure of being photographed constantly and the fear of being found wanting. It's very sad. I can't see William and Harry or Charles being put under that scrutiny. Prince Andrew is a bit of a porker, but no one says so.

silverstarling1 · 23/05/2018 21:35

But having a healthy body weight has everything to do with being ‘fat’ or ‘thin’.. if they were soo thin then they couldn’t have a healthy body weight op

whataboutbob · 23/05/2018 21:36

Body shapes which are hard to achieve are always admired. In the Stone Age it was obesity ( as per the stone statuettes which have been found in various sites around Europe) because obesity would have been the preserve of a tiny , well off minority. In our current obseogenic environment, where obesity is found disproportionately amongst the poorer sections of society, it is frowned upon and being skinny is admired and desired. Plus, being rich AND fat as per the late duke of grosevenor is not a good look. It’s like screaming “look, I’m rich AND greedy- “you never know, the masses might just get resentful.

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 23/05/2018 21:38

I think they're probably within healthy weight range. Sadly we just seem to have lost sight of what that truly is!

Thinkingofausername1 · 23/05/2018 21:39

To wonder why some people are fat. Just saying

Metoodear · 23/05/2018 21:39

Because Megan would of struggled enough to get work being mixed raced let alone fat as well

starzig · 23/05/2018 21:41

It's quite a hectic lifestyle. Probably don't have time to have a slouch in front of the TV with chocolate day.

merrymouse · 23/05/2018 21:41

They look pretty average for people who exercise regularly and eat healthily.

shakingmyhead1 · 23/05/2018 21:42

I would imagine that as they are on the go all day every day, their entire lives are ( and in Meghan's case will be) are completely micromanaged and kept on a very tight schedule that when they do get to eat its something small and fast ( and they do have many rules about not finishing whats on your plate and once the Queen is done everyone stops eating too) and also when not breast feeding or on time off im sure their staff prepare very healthy non fattening foods as the whole Duchess of Pork thing will always be in the back of their minds

KirstenRaymonde · 23/05/2018 21:44

They’re both perfectly fine sized, not that it matters. Not too thin, just fine and healthy. As a PP said we’ve got so used to overweight being the norm we’ve lost sight of what a healthy body looks like.

Emilizz34 · 23/05/2018 21:44

They both look a completely normal size to me . I think that overweight and obesity is so common now that those of a healthy size stand out .
My GP recently commented that I was very thin and told me to hop up on the scales . In fact I weight a very health 9.5 stone at 5ft 5”. He admitted that most of his patients are overweight so he finds it hard to judge

UnrelentingFruitScoffer · 23/05/2018 21:44

Both Duchesses look perfectly normal. They obviously have the means and the time to eat well and take exercise and get enough sleep.

Obese Britain has just forgotten what normal looks like.
