To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

Research indicates that people in the overweight category, as opposed to the underweight, normal, obese or morbidly obese category - actually live longer.

See graph below and point to actual research.

Although you see more old thin people than old fat people

Quantumblue · 28/05/2018 11:58

I think our society values women in reverse proportion to how much space they take up on the planet. So these two women, who have married two very 'high value' men, in terms of wealth and fame, are obliged to remain as slim as possible as part of the unspoken deal.

littlegreyhare · 28/05/2018 12:00

Foxy that is the kind of comment that is so upsetting if you are naturally slight. Did you mean to be so rude?

littlegreyhare · 28/05/2018 12:02

You may live longer if you are overweight but it doesn't necessarily mean you won't be suffering from chronic health problems associated with it. I want to be able to run, cycle, walk etc for as long as possible, that is easier if you are slim.

bananafish81 · 28/05/2018 12:03

They both need a good feed. Way too thin.

Yay! More slim shaming!

Is it equally acceptable to say about Beatrice and Eugenie 'both need to go on a diet. Way too big'?

Given unless you know something we don't, we don't know the BMI of any of them. And even if we did, it's fucking rude to pass comment on their weight

Mominatrix · 28/05/2018 12:03

Kate’s bmi of 19 is only .5 above anorexic level.

Bollocks. Both women are healthy, slim, and perfectly fine. Look at photographs of people who really are struggling with anorexia before you lob this one off.

I have a BMI of 17.8, but at 5'2", it is perfectly fine. I am healthy and definitely not skeletal. I was on a thread like this in a past where posters accused me of being skeletal and I posted a photo of me in a bikini to prove that I am just fine - not going to do that again, but I am slim with defined muscles and definitely am not gaunt. I am not unusual in my circle of friends.

littlegreyhare · 28/05/2018 12:04

The slim shaming makes me so cross, you just wouldn't get away with it in reverse would you. Agree with you totally banana and Mominatrix.

It still possible if you are just a bit overweight.

formerbabe · 28/05/2018 12:06

I certainly don't think either of them is anorexic or looks anorexic.

I do however think they both work extremely hard both in terms of food/exercise to stay at a weight which is probably far lower than they are naturally inclined to be.

Lweji · 28/05/2018 12:09

For the second link:

"In contrast to some previous studies which have reported longer LE among overweight than normal weight adults,14, 16 we did not observe marked LE difference between these groups. In a recent meta-analysis overweight was associated with lower all-cause mortality among subjects aged ⩾65 years old,5 but in the current study the participants were on average younger than 60 years at baseline. This difference in results may be explained by a greater potential for confounding by illness in older age groups. With advancing age the prevalence of many diseases increase which may lead to weight loss, thus making normal weight appear disadvantageous in terms of LE at older ages. Despite similar LE between normal weight and overweight groups, our analysis showed that normal weight participants had more healthy years and years without chronic diseases than overweight participants even after taking into account smoking status. Similar findings related to beneficial role of normal weight have been reported in terms of LE without cardiovascular disease14, 22 and disability."

This. And the shame is that they could both gain a stone or two and look perfectly fine but would be slated by the media and probably Mumsnet as well.

littlegreyhare · 28/05/2018 12:11

Agree Seren

fomerbabe possibly, but can you accept that there are people like me and other posters on here who aren't anorexic and don't have to work extremely hard to look that way? How can you know that they are not like us? Disclaimer - not that I look in the least bit like Kate or Meghan sadly but am slim, low BMI with no effort. Just for clarity I would like to put on a bit of weight but just not possible, some people really are just made that way.

MrsPMT · 28/05/2018 12:12

They are very slim but they both look fab, IMO. Also posters who have mentioned Meghan's arms and shoulders in her evening dress, absolutely!

And they both seem v fit too, KM does look a bit skinny at times but if she's fit & healthy so what?

littlegreyhare · 28/05/2018 12:12

Then they are damned if they do and damned if they don't Seren.

abbsisspartacus · 28/05/2018 12:12

I think it's stress Meghan looked like she had lost some on her wedding day but tbf she had a stressful few weeks

MrsPMT · 28/05/2018 12:21

Don't know about this, tbh I think most of us eat and drink too much which keeps us at weights which are far higher than we are naturally inclined to be.

I eat mostly healthy (regular meals) but drink far too much wine, I am active and a medium size (12), BMI 22, I could def shift over a stone if I stopped drinking so much wine, which would make me slim (BMI 20) rather than medium, with no extra diet changes.

Lethaldrizzle · 28/05/2018 12:26

Imagine the slating Wallace Simpson would have got on mumsnet if it were around then. But then she thought you 'could never be too rich or too thin'

formerbabe · 28/05/2018 12:27

littlegreyhare

People may see themselves as "naturally slim" but very few genuinely are. Perhaps you have a naturally small appetite? So you see yourself as eating whatever you want and staying slim. If you think you're naturally thin, do you think you still would be if you started eating takeaways every night, several chocolate bars a day etc? Because if doing so would make you fatter then I don't think you're 'naturally' thin.

Highhorse1981 · 28/05/2018 12:34

I am underweight. 5’7 and 7.8 stone

I work out practically every day and love it! Mix of running and weights.
I am a single mum to two children and we lead very active lives. Weekend daytimes are spent biking, walking, swimming (evenings spent relaxing in front of TV!)

I eat very healthily. No junk. BUT I eat three full meals a day (porridge, chicken, tuna, salad, veg, Greek yoghurt, fruit).

I bloody love my life. You’d look at me though and think that I don’t eat and couldn’t lift a needle & thread. Although I have thick hair, good skin and nails - the coming signs that one is healthy.

I remember I won a race and the leader of a localxrunninf club came up to me and said “you are very skinny but no one could run that fast without having a good diet and regime”. Absolutely.

I reckon the duchess and her sisduer are the same. Strict with themselves but in such a way that they really enjoy life - active, healthy food etc.

wheezing · 28/05/2018 12:44

But those are not natural foods not a normal style of eating! These are simply not foods that humans are meant to eat.

Not to say I don’t eat them, but seriously ....

Ellapaella · 28/05/2018 12:45

Neither of them look underweight to me. They have nice, slim figures. No doubt they work hard at the gym and watch what they eat, they both look healthy. I would love to have the will power, time and motivation to do the same.
