To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

Serious

Agree that there’s a very large dose of racism involved with why some people don’t like Meghan.

The “hint of espresso” may well sound suitably ironic, as you say was intended, in a spoken conversation but really didn’t read very well.

TheDowagerCuntess · 24/05/2018 20:37

Look, I'm sure you didn't mean the way others are interpreting it serious - but 'he likes a hint of espresso' is so objectifying.

I really doubt he goes for a skin colour. He likes the woman, who happens to have a particular shade of skin. Same for 'tall, thin, whatever'.

And the people criticising your comment are sticking up for Meghan. So I really doubt they're 'just jealous' of her.

Seriousquestion09 · 24/05/2018 20:41

Cool sorry my bad

Dandeliontea123 · 24/05/2018 20:43

‘A hint of espresso’ brings to mind that horrible old phrase ‘a touch of the tar brush’ i.e. although she is a great catch, ‘unfortunately’ she has some non-Caucasian ancestry.

Describing yourself in terms of your own skin tone is not the same thing.

Dandeliontea123 · 24/05/2018 20:44

X-posted, Serious, no worries.

BlackberryandNettle · 24/05/2018 21:03

The duchesses look good, I think most people would be thinner with time and money to exercise lots, personal trainers, really healthy food prepared for you, etc. I agree there is probably a touch of keeping up appearances/not being seen to hit the cake and let standards slip to it as well.

Whocansay · 24/05/2018 21:10

Both women are beautiful, but under enormous pressure to look good. The press can be so horrible! I remember them turning on Fergie in the 80's. They compared her to Diana at every turn. They were vicious!

littlegreyhare · 24/05/2018 22:15

I absolutely love Meghan and Kate and think that they are both stunningly beautiful. Of course they will pay more attention to their figures as they are both in the public eye, makes sense surely.

I am a very healthy size 6, have been for 35 years, have had children possibly don't eat as much as a lot of people as I have a small appetite but take offence at always being accused on threads like this of having an ED.

Ginny your comments were beyond vile.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 24/05/2018 22:23

The fact that you believe this message to encourage obesity, FirstStep, and believe that messages that validate the normal bodies of normal women are somehow subversive, pretty much sums up the problem

Where the hell did I say that that encourages obesity ffs.

serious this whole ‘best of both worlds’ crap about mixed race kids is so offensive. I hate it so much. I have mixed race kids and the idea that they’d be less beautiful if they were fully one race is just so grim.

CressyBessy · 25/05/2018 01:48

Just leaving this here

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
CressyBessy · 25/05/2018 01:49

And this

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
CressyBessy · 25/05/2018 01:52

And this.

I’m actually started to wonder if it might be a medical issue with her calf muscles. Either way, Meghan is indeed an apple shape with broad shoulders. Any spare weight goes on her middle.

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

FFS Shock

waterlego6064 · 25/05/2018 07:46

A medical issue with her calf muscles? WTF? This level of scrutiny is beyond weird.

Ohsuchaperfectday · 25/05/2018 07:51

I'm not mixed raced but people always asking me where I'm from, always told I'm olive skin, am I from Italy, Spain etc..

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 25/05/2018 08:01

I hate it when people make assumptions about slim people not eating or being on permanent diets.

These women are not underweight, just at the lower end of normal.

Eating healthily and exercising is a choice anyone has a right to make without being criticised. Just as overeating and not exercising, or indeed any other combination of the two things is a choice too-as autonomous beings we get to decide how to look after our bodies, and whether it's a priority or not.

I'm slim, 5'9 9st 2 and eat an average of 2700 cals a day according to Fitbit. It's perfectly possible to have a normal relationship with food and be a low end of normal weight.

Why do women judge each other so much?

HerMajestysSecret · 25/05/2018 08:14

Meghan does have insanely thin legs. They're like twigs, how do they even hold her up? My calves must be literally three times wider than hers!! 😂

SerenDippitty · 25/05/2018 08:22

I'm slim, 5'9 9st 2 and eat an average of 2700 cals a day according to Fitbit. It's perfectly possible to have a normal relationship with food and be a low end of normal*

Could I also point out that it is possible to be at the top end of normal and not be fat? I'm 5ft 2 and weigh a pound more than you do but eat 1400 calories a day. I'm not fat - I'm an hourglass shape with long legs and a big frame.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 25/05/2018 08:33

Seren

Exactly normal is normal, there is a range. People are all different.

bananafish81 · 25/05/2018 08:51

I struggled with eating disorders in my youth and spent lots of time in groups for those with anorexia and I see the same physical signs in female public figures constantly.

I spent so much of my teenage years being asked if I was anorexic - my orthodontist (whose daughter was in my year at school, and who WAS anorexic) even asked my mum flat out if I was eating! I'm just naturally skinny, as my mum was! I naturally have a small appetite. I have limited interest in food. I really have to work hard to put on weight, it's not about dieting or trying to stay slim. I wasn't restricting and I was perfectly healthy. Just thin.

You have no idea how easy it is to lose disastrous amounts of weight when you are naturally thin. Any stress and the weight melts away.

THIS. I lost well over half a stone in a week when my Mum died. Similar after my miscarriages.

I think that a lot of slim people , myself included, find it hard to keep weight on when busy or anxious. I imagine anyone would find it hard not to lose weight before a wedding

Also this. I definitely lost a fair amount in the run up to my wedding. And I didn't have anything like the stress MM has had!

formerbabe · 25/05/2018 09:00

I'm just naturally skinny, as my mum was! I naturally have a small appetite

So you're not naturally skinny. You just don't eat much.

bananafish81 · 25/05/2018 09:08

So you're not naturally skinny. You just don't eat much.

But that's why most naturally skinny people are skinny

It's not that they have a metabolism whereby if they ate 3000 calories every day they wouldn't put on weight

It's been shown time and time again that people who are 'naturally skinny' actually eat less then they think, and their appetite is such that they just don't want to eat as much or as often

They've shown this on so many documentaries. There was one called 'The truth about slim people' recently. The slim people were naturally fidgety and naturally ate less - they didn't restrict consciously

I managed to put on weight when I really really worked at it. I tracked with MFP and was eating all the bloody time to get 2000 calories in. I felt sick trying to force food down but I did manage it. Got my BMI up to 19 from 17. But my natural appetite is just very small, so it was a very very conscious effort

'Naturally' slim people just have a naturally small appetite. They're not TRYING to stay slim by restricting what they eat. There's a difference.

bananafish81 · 25/05/2018 09:13

See this post yesterday

Well yes. Some thin people may say they stay slim whilst eating whatever they want. Obviously that depends on what you want! My definition of eating what I want would be smoked salmon, bagels, pastries for breakfast, nandos for lunch, Chinese takeaway every night followed by boxes of expensive Belgian chocolates. If I ate what I wanted I'd be the size of a house. Maybe those who say they eat what they want, just don't want much!

I eat what I want which tbh is not that much!

If I'm working from home or round the house at the weekend I will very very often forget to eat

Easier at work as there's the natural rhythm of going out at lunch to get something to eat

But if left to my own devices I won't generally want to eat three meals a day, it would be a conscious effort to override my natural appetite

SerenDippitty · 25/05/2018 09:23

I have an underactive thyroid and for me it is very important to ear at regular intervals to keep my metabolism ticking over. My thyroid needs an adequate calorie intake to support its function.

FriendlyOcelot · 25/05/2018 09:25

Agree with bananafish81; it is about having a small appetite. I always thought I was normal until I went away on a few weekends with friends; not only do I tend to eat less but I also fidget more and don’t relax as easily as them! I can put on weight if I have a foody and boozy weekend of takeaways, beer and Sunday roasts, but I would feel awful if I did it all the time!
