To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

Sarah Ferguson has been very vocal about her weight gain and loss - she was the face of slimming products in the US.
She had hell from the press at times.

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 18:35

Well, I'm brown, Serious and my children are mixed race and I find comments likes yours incredibly offensive. NO ONE is sexually attractive to everyone, and especially not just because he/she is mixed race, or more attractive specifically because he/she is mixed race or people who have relationships with people of a different race from theirs after 'a bit of espresso' or 'a bit of tea' or 'a bit of yellow'.

PickAChew · 24/05/2018 18:42

Because they probably don't slob out on the sofa with Mumsnet and a yellow stickered box of pastries when they get bored of folding endless mountains of laundry.

And Meghan looks no stranger to the gym.

TheDowagerCuntess · 24/05/2018 18:46

Seriously? You don’t know that a young woman, with a good hip waist ratio with added fat on the boobs and belly and bum is what we as humans term fertile

@GinnyWreckin - I don't think you understand.

The above is what humans have traditionally perceived to be fertile. But fertile women - in real life - come in all shapes and sizes.

Because women come in all shapes and sizes, and the human race has thrived in spite of that.

It's not only hourglass women who become pregnant, or even who become pregnant more quickly. Confused

Back to biology for you.

TheDowagerCuntess · 24/05/2018 18:48

And Harry is, what? 6th in the line to the throne now - not next after William. Grin

People don't like what you say because it's patent nonsense, just for the record.

Seriousquestion09 · 24/05/2018 19:03

Expat chill I said 100% of the guys I know in RL like her and I think that being mixed race she has the best of both worlds.

merrymouse · 24/05/2018 19:07

Given the longetivity of the royals it’s more than likely that William will have grandchildren before Charles dies.

shadypines · 24/05/2018 19:11

They look perfectly slim and healthy to me. Not too thin at all.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 24/05/2018 19:16

Everyone - or st least, most women -who enters the public eye tend to lose weight. Diana. Amal has lost loads. Posh...

Meghan's been an actress in LA and I doubt they're encouraged to eat.

This is a daft thread.

MrsLupo · 24/05/2018 19:36

It doesnt act as a counterbalance, that would mean the messages of being slim were equal they arent. There is meme after meme about real women have curves, If a slim woman was to make up a stupid message about that there would be uproar.

Seriously? You seriously think there is a critical mass of media messages encouraging women to eat what they want and enjoy being fat? And no noticeable messages encouraging women to be slim, thin, even dangerously thin, to diet, to watch what they eat, to feel guilty about what they eat, to feel bad about their bodies if they're less than Hollywood perfect? Hmm Hmm Hmm

I think I shall step away from the fucked up parallel universe that this thread has become for the good of my mental health. You guys need help.

Jarstastic · 24/05/2018 19:37

Sorry haven't read the thread, just skimmed some last night.

I find it interesting that whilst the population has apparently got bigger as a whole, it appears to me at least that the 'ideal' has got smaller. If you look at Diana, Princess of Wales when she was at her height, to me she looks like a UK size 12 (10 sometimes) whilst the Duchess of Cambridge is more like a UK 6-8.

MrsLupo · 24/05/2018 19:37

And Cake

Jarstastic · 24/05/2018 19:38

I also remember in the late 80s/early 90s, it was very difficult to find size 8 clothes on the high street.

PrettyLovely · 24/05/2018 19:55

"Seriously? You seriously think there is a critical mass of media messages encouraging women to eat what they want and enjoy being fat?"
No I didnt say that did I...Confused

"I think I shall step away from the fucked up parallel universe that this thread has become for the good of my mental health."
I think thats a great Idea! Grin

Annabelle4 · 24/05/2018 19:57

Yes Jarstastsstic, I saw photos of Diana for the first time in a few years recently and was surprised that she wasn't as thin as I remember.

Annabelle4 · 24/05/2018 19:58

*jarstastic

HerMajestysSecret · 24/05/2018 20:12

Diana was only very thin shortly before and during her marriage.

In the last photos of her, she was very healthy and strong-looking, with a much more gym-honed figure.

midnightmisssuki · 24/05/2018 20:14

i cant believe the person who said she had a hint of espresso. Not many things shock me but that did.

And to the person who said you cant be a healthy or normal size 6 - dont be so silly, of course you can. I am a very healthy size 4 thank you very much. The ignorance on this thread is astounding.

Racecardriver · 24/05/2018 20:18

They are not thin to the x point that it is worth mentioning surely?

SerenDippitty · 24/05/2018 20:28

I find it interesting that whilst the population has apparently got bigger as a whole, it appears to me at least that the 'ideal' has got smaller.

This. Supermodels in the 80s were not like this.

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
SemperIdem · 24/05/2018 20:30

I think they both look very attractive, very slim but not unhealthily so.

The “hint of espresso” comment is just beyond!

Seriousquestion09 · 24/05/2018 20:31

At above poster if that is the worst thing you have heard in life you need to get off mumsnet and get into the real world... honestly... I often describe myself as ebony, dark cocoa.

TheDowagerCuntess · 24/05/2018 20:32

Maybe he likes a hint of espresso?

Maybe he just likes Meghan.

Seriousquestion09 · 24/05/2018 20:33

Please explain how that is offensive hint of espresso refers to mixed or black/white. I think most people are jealous of her anyway.

Seriousquestion09 · 24/05/2018 20:35

Dowager countess I’ve seen countless referrals to the fact that he likes tall, skinny blondes based on his previous girlfriends... countless and now he has married a mixed race (black) woman everyone has gone into a frenzy... hence why I made that comment.
