Tattooed nurses

Would you be put off by a tattooed nurse? At the moment I’ve only got them in places a patient would never see but I do plan to add some to my upper arm in the near future.

Just want to hear your thoughts and reasons!

No at all, I hate how people in certain jobs aren't allowed tattoos as it is 'unprofessional' in my Son's school teachers aren't allowed them as it 'means the teacher is a bad influence' OFF A TATTOO!!!! and if anybody is are wrong!

My neurosurgeon and anaesthetist both had tattoos. Cracking team, I owe them a lot

Doesn't affect treatment = do not care

I recall David Mitchell saying he discovered his accountant had an armful of tatts.

He said 'I respected him a little less after that'...

When one of my elderly parents received a cancer diagnosis, I accompanied them to the hospital appointment. The physical appearance of the doctor terrified my already highly anxious parent. I do think that, in professions facing the public, it is wise to try to at least not look scary.

I couldn't give less of a toss if she had tattoos. I'd only be put off by a nurse who seemed disinterested and/or unprofessional. Her style wouldn't bother me at all.

I really dislike tattoos. So I don't have any and my life partner whose body I see more than anyone's doesn't have them. I don't care if others around me have them as long as they are not intended to look threatening (face tattoos and the like). I just think they're ugly but I wouldn't expect that to affect your ability to nurse.

I'm not really of the tattoo generation but when I had my hysterectomy a couple years ago, my favourite nurse was a student with a tattoo.

The poor woman had to remove my catheter, as part of training, so I was more worried about upsetting her! She also had the best sense of humour.

I have tattoos and I'm a teacher. Never had an issue getting a job!

One of my favourite NICU nurses had tatoo's, properly red hair and a taste in heavy metal. She was funny and caring and great at her job.

Not at all op. One of the best nurses who looked after me when I was in hospital for an erpc was a very heavily tattooed male nurse who was the kindest loveliest person.

I wouldn't care about it as long as they did their job but I would judge. Tattoos don't affect a person's ability so it wouldn't affect me at all. I would think why have you done that to yourself. You're limiting your career chances.
I'll bet there aren't many doctors with tattoos on show.

Obviously a tattoo has no bearing on a person’s ability.

It is, however, a reflection of his aesthetic judgement which may or may not be a reflection of his education.

I'm a judgey fucker about all sorts of modern nonsense, but this wouldn't bother me one bit.

derxa - there's a massive amount of senior and advanced paramedics, air ambulance staff and higher up all with tattoos
If the shit hits the fan, they're the people you want with you that second
I couldn't care if they had Donald Duck tattooed on their face at that point provided they could save my life

So long as it wasn't offensive, wouldn't care at all

Some tattoos are rather beautiful, others look as though they’ve been done whilst the owner is doing a stretch.

In a professional environment I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect tattoos to be covered.

I work with a team of nurses. The Team Manager is heavily tattooed and has had them years. She's an arse, but they aren't connected!

It really doesn't matter and I agree with umbongo

I’ve got a degree and I’m doing another one Smile

A degree is not any kind of proof of education these days!

I tried super super-hard not to judge the 2 uniformed paramedics standing by their ambulance having a fag outside what I assume was a patients house. Residential street, nowhere near a hospital/doctors.

I work with plenty of tattoed healthcare professionals. Most do keep them covered but you often see tattoos peeking out of sleeves/collars. I've never heard of a patient complaining.

Depending on what kind of nursing you do and how long you can have off after it's done, I think anywhere but face/hands/lower arms is fine.

I say lower arms as if you're doing procedures where you scrub you could really hurt yourself and risk not being properly sterile while the tattoo is healing.

I have a degree. A further two professional qualifications in different fields (one of which is law).

I now run my own business very successfully.

You'd be a bit silly to assume my body art is a reflection of my education or indeed professional ability Smile

I had a wonderful nurse treating me in EPAU when I had my miscarriages that had a few tattoos and a nose piercing. She spoke to me at length about my tattoos and showed great interest. It may sound lame but it was nice to have my mind taken off the shitstorm that was occurring. The fact she had tattoos didn’t bother me and it shouldn’t bother anyone.

I teach and have a tattoo sleeve. Shoot me.
