Tattooed nurses

Would you be put off by a tattooed nurse? At the moment I’ve only got them in places a patient would never see but I do plan to add some to my upper arm in the near future.

Just want to hear your thoughts and reasons!

@CaptainCabinets. You did ask if people would be put off. Some people wouldn't but others would. You asked the question and have a variety of answers. It's a bit off to then call them goady etc..

Presumably you already had an idea that some people would be put off or you'd never have asked.

In your opinion it's 'artwork' to others, me included, it's more like graffiti. Each to their own.

CaptainCabinets · 24/05/2018 19:27

Erm, I didn’t call anyone goady! I was responding to another poster who thought the thread was goady. Hmm

Yes, I asked the question, but there was no need for the blatant rudeness of some contributors, and certainly no need for them to cast aspersions on character based on a bit of ink on the skin.

Graffiti, by definition, is scrawling over public walls. My body is not a public wall. Wink

Tattoos as positive healing symbol here in Manchester. Arianne Grande has just tweeted a picture of a bee tattoo she has got. Even local MPs are getting bee tattoos. Sign of solidarity and love here.

I have tattoos and I'm also a specialist nurse. When working in private hospitals visible tattoos can be an issue for some patients and families. I was once called to cover in a private hospital by the patient. Even though I had previously treated this patient, which I pointed out to the patient and family members. The patient replied by saying. You must have been different back then as the tattoos had changed me. I then pointed out I had the same amount of tattoos back then as I do now. She felt like a real ass

Lillyringlet · 24/05/2018 19:59

One of the only things I remember from when my little girl was born, was talking to a nurse about her fable tattoo.

I think perception of tattoos has massively changed in recent years. Check with trusts though. Your current one might be fine but if you plan to move it might be harder.

10 years from now though I highly doubt we will have such a hang up about tattoos being seen unless offensive in nature.

ChipsAndKetchup · 24/05/2018 20:08

Nurses are fucking amazing.

I don't care if you paint yourself purple. You're still awesome to be a nurse frankly.

clarkl2 · 24/05/2018 20:26

Nurses aren't permitted to have visible piercings, tattoos or unnatural coloured hair. It's actually in degree policy.

Have only just returned from a European city. While there, we remarked on the fact that so few of the local population sported tattoos. It was refreshing.
We did, of course, see some liberally inked Brits. They looked ridiculous.

Golly I’d be disappointed in a holiday abroad if it was dull enough that I actually noticed things like that.

There’s a highly respected tattoo convention in Carcassone every year. But I imagine like a PP’s nonsensical ramblings you’ll tell me that isn’t the right TYPE of European city Grin

RoseWhiteTips · 24/05/2018 20:40

Riiight.
(Have I touched a raw nerve?! Oops.)

RoseWhiteTips · 24/05/2018 20:41

Any comment on the liberally inked and ridiculous Brits, at all?

waits

JacquesHammer · 24/05/2018 20:41

@RoseWhiteTips

Not at all. You’ve been missed on the tattoo threads.

You give me such a hoot. You see every time you post, my FWB gets sent the thread for him to have a laugh 😂

CaptainCabinets · 24/05/2018 20:41

What sort of nerve would you have touched with your dull holiday observations? Confused

How can I comment? I didn’t see them. Would you like me to critique ink I’ve never seen? That would be foolish

ozymandiusking · 24/05/2018 20:42

For God's sake, why on earth would you want to disfigure your body like that! Forget it, and bloody grow up. 20- 30 years from now you'll think why the hell did I do that.

CaptainCabinets · 24/05/2018 20:43

Yes Mum Hmm

Given I had my first 20 years ago and have been getting them since, I’ll take my chances

iamyourequal · 24/05/2018 20:46

It wouldn’t bother me unless the content of the artwork could be deemed offensive to patients.

ChevalierTialys · 24/05/2018 20:46

If the tattoo was basically a crib sheet of how to do CPR, or how to site a cannula, I might be a little worried Grin

Tattoos mean nothing in terns of intelligence or competance at ones job.

Yep. I wonder if in 30 years’ time, they will have had to get re-inked, so to speak?!
Might be tricky for the “artist” to keep the wrinkled skin in place in order to achieve the desired effect. Lol

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 24/05/2018 20:48

Personally, not at all. I’m judging you by your effectiveness and behaviour towards me, that’s all. My DS and DDIL(a HCP) are slightly tattoed - they look lovely, but of course I’m totally biased.

I suspect my older relatives would be a bit freaked out initially, but if you were kind and compassionate and efficient they’d say “She has theese tattoes, you know, but she’s really lovely”.

Tats are foolish. Next?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 24/05/2018 20:49

Tattoos, even. Must be the wine. 😄

chavtasticfirebanger · 24/05/2018 20:49

I would judge a nurse with HD eyebrow slugs though.

JacquesHammer · 24/05/2018 20:51

@RoseWhiteTips

See your critical skills haven’t improved for a break.

Must be tiresome to have had such a futile holiday
