Tattooed nurses

Would you be put off by a tattooed nurse? At the moment I’ve only got them in places a patient would never see but I do plan to add some to my upper arm in the near future.

Just want to hear your thoughts and reasons!

Love, do you mean partners with visible tattoos? As that’s quite unusual in my experience. I’d love to hear more about it, i.e US or U.K. firm, what area etc. Thanks

LoveInTokyo · 24/05/2018 17:19

Yes, my supervising partner in my first firm had a visible tattoo on her upper arm. Top 50 UK firm. Worked on large energy projects. She’s very respected in her field.

ICantCopeAnymore · 24/05/2018 17:20

Tattoos are a life-limiting choice

They've had no limiting effect on my life whatsoever.

Carriemac · 24/05/2018 17:21

The blinkered stereotype is the belief that your appearance is no-one’s business but your own in a professional setting. A certain blandness in appearance is an act of care.

Completely agree

JacquesHammer · 24/05/2018 17:21

@LoveInTokyo

Thank GOODNESS she wasn't a conveyancing partner. They don't count you know Grin

DarlingNikita · 24/05/2018 17:21

Conveyancing hmm? Not quite ecm/FCPA work. No offence but not really what I’m talking about.

Oh, that's another good one Grin

Comeymemo · 24/05/2018 17:24

Oh please, the level of disingenuousness is very amusing. For anyone suggesting that all law sectors are the same - nice try. Most people never meet their conveyancing lawyer, so you can be covered in tattoos from head to toe if you want, I don’t give a shit.
It’s a pretty different job if you’re interacting with investors or regulators face to face. And if you think tattoos are standard in that line of work, you are totally wrong.

CaptainCabinets · 24/05/2018 17:27

Adding to their burden and voluntarily scaring them Confused

Because that’s exactly why HCPs get tattoos. Hmm

What burden are we adding, might I ask?

Actually your assumptiuons are incorrect; whilst some firms work purely or even mostly online we didn't. All our clients were local enough to want to visit one of the four offices (or indeed we did house visits) and SEE their lawyers face to tattoo face. That was one of our USPs actually.

Bless you, you're really trying aren't you.

Comeymemo · 24/05/2018 17:30

I’ve been doing this job for 20years on 3 continents, and I’ve never met a managing partner, head of department, partner, QC or barrister with a visible tattoo. Does this help at all?
But hey, I’m sure plenty of conveyancors are tattooed, and that’s the same thing. Hmm

CaptainCabinets · 24/05/2018 17:30

“That nurse has a tattoo of a flower on her arm so my health problems are suddenly ten times worse.” Hmm

Some people hang pictures on their walls, some people have pictures on their skin. Do you refuse to go round to people’s houses because you don’t like what they hang on the wall?

Comeymemo · 24/05/2018 17:31

Let’s agree to disagree.

Ah well if you've never MET one they definitely don't exist. Do you realise how silly that sounds?

JacquesHammer · 24/05/2018 17:32

Ah you've agreed to disagree, I see you have realised Grin

ToftyAC · 24/05/2018 17:36

I wouldn’t give a rats arse if my nurse was tattooed. Only that he or she is fab at what they’re doing.

Comeymemo · 24/05/2018 17:36

Jacques, you are being silly. It doesn’t matter how much you think it’s wrong, people will judge you based on tattoos. It’s life. And if you choose to get tattooed, that’s the choice you make.
In business contexts, where real money is involved (not conveyancing), people become very conservative. They will not go for the tattooed lady if there is an alternative. I’m sorry to break it out to you.

DarlingNikita · 24/05/2018 17:38

Could you be any more condescending, Comey? Grin

Look, I earn enough not to need to work full time. I can be extremely picky about clients. I turn people away. People have very regularly gone for the "tattooed lady" even when there is an alternative because I do a good job.

Although I am totally tempted to fully rebrand as "The Tattooed Lady" now Grin

DO IT

Winenot78 · 24/05/2018 17:41

My best friend is an A&E doctor. She has many tattoos, hidden and not, numerous piercings in her ears, lips and nose and dies her hair either bright pink or bright purple. She's had many comments in the passed from complete idiot (imho) about how she can be a doctor looking like she does, because clearly tattoos and piercings mean you're obviously less qualified than the next guy...

Tattoos on a nurse/doctor, or anyone else for that matter, would never bother me xx

gingermumi · 24/05/2018 17:44

My daughter went for a job at a naice cafe (think big country house). Was refused because she has a tatoo of a heart on her wrist. She was heart broken. My other daughter is a highflying band 8b nurse (no idea what it means- she is in charge of safeguarding for our nhs trust) has a tattoo. Clearly not been an issue. Do people find scars off putting? What about self-harm scars, which can be as obvious as tattoos?

Jaxhog · 24/05/2018 17:45

Depends. If they're subtle, then no. But all over, yes. Ditto piercings.

JacquesHammer · 24/05/2018 17:46

That's an interesting question. My best friend had her self harm scars tattooed over by a guy who specialises in covering scars.

The confidence it has given her is absolutely amazing.

pollymere · 24/05/2018 17:48

I might actually believe you when you say how much needles can hurt.

chavtasticfirebanger · 24/05/2018 17:48

Depends.
If white, no problem.
If red, needs to be off sock until tgey can regulate emotions better. Plus a hygiene issue if open.
