To think urinating in the shower isn't a bad thing?

It all gets washed away anyway and you can clean yourself straight after Confused how come some people see this on a par apparently with dirtiness Kim+Aggie would faint at?

I only discovered the pleasures of it this year after seeing how much my daughter enjoyed it ( age 6) . It felt nice so I do it every morning now - better than my cold toilet which is in another room next to the front door.

Water does not wash everything off a bath or a shower tray. There is often a build-up of soap residue and fat (moisturisers from conditioner, shower gel etc) on the surface, and things stick to this. Try taking a bath and putting fragrant oil in it, then shaving your legs, and draining the bath. You'll find a ring of hair-encrusted oil around the bath. Something similar happens when you shower with soap, wash and condition your hair - the flowing water doesn't get rid of everything. That's why it's necessary to clean baths.

But this happens because these things (hair, oil, soap scum) are not entirely free-flowing liquids. Urine flows like water.

But if I had a cool plumbing system where the showers and sinks/grey water went for garden watering/toilet flushing then I wouldn't wee in the shower. Why not? Wee is a lot better for your garden than the soap/detergent residues in grey water.
The grass and plants that my dogs pee on and up against would beg to differ Grin

FluctuatNecMergitur · 25/05/2018 14:33

Serious question for those who are horrified by the idea. What do you make of the environmental argument about wasting water? Are you just, like, "meh, fuck it?"

puppymouse · 25/05/2018 14:41

Fluc I think that's a little OTT. To be honest it would never really occur to me that I should be peeing in the shower to save water. I have a toilet. I flush the toilet when I need to use it. I am very grateful I live in a country where this is normal.

As I understand it, I'm doing a good thing choosing to shower over a bath from a water perspective and I teach DD not to leave taps running etc and that water isn't to be wasted. But if you're telling me I'm a twat for using a toilet when I could just piss in the shower then so be it.

pigmcpigface · 25/05/2018 14:46

lisa - but stuff STICKS to the soap residue! I bet if you swabbed and tested, you'd find urine.

fluc Unless you only ever wee in the shower, and never, ever use the toilet then I think that argument about water applies just as much to shower pee-ers as it does to those who don't.

DH and I are not bothered about privacy so we shower absolutely directly one after the other, (minimum time, minimum water usage as the shower only has to get to temperature once) and we both use our water-efficient loo and flush once. I'm pretty comfortable with our water usage in the morning.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 25/05/2018 14:57

I think at the point you'd have to conduct a CSI-style investigation with swabbing to identify the presence of urine you should probably just get over it. It isn't visible, it doesn't smell, it's therefore completely neurotic to worry about the presence of trace amounts. I'm sure if you tested thoroughly enough you could find traces of blood, semen, urine and faeces in just about any bathroom whether or not anyone is weeing in the shower.

KittenBeast · 25/05/2018 15:41

Had a piss in the shower earlier to see if it splashed up the walls. It didn't.

Wobblybitts · 25/05/2018 17:06

Good grief the wee must be so diluted I can’t see why it would be a problem!

gutrotweins · 25/05/2018 17:08

A quick google search tells me that we produce 0.3l of urine per wee, 95% of which is water. As an average shower uses 75 litres of water, I can't really see how the wee will cause a massive problem... Confused

We have a septic tank and everything goes down it (even the rainwater from the gutters.) After all the poo, wee, sweat, blood, tears and washing up water has been acted on by aerobic bacteria, it is then pumped DOWN THE GARDEN!!!
However much bleach I use on the garden, the smell just won't disappear.

HunnidBands · 25/05/2018 17:13

Then you are washing yourself, including, for the most fastidious of you, every part that some disgusting urine might have touched. Very dilute urine is not going to smell going through your outside drains unless your outside drains are not actually draining in which case they'll smell stagnant anyway.

Yebbut, as I mentioned upthread there are a huge amount of MNers who don’t wash their feet in the shower, there was a whole thread about it not that long ago.

So, all you shower pissers, do you wash your feet or just let them be ‘cleansed’ by the wate you’re standing in, as was the consensus on that thread?

Ontopofthesunset · 25/05/2018 17:18

Well, I always wash my feet, including between my toes, as my mum taught me to! I don't understand the non-feet washers, frankly, as feet get very sweaty and sticky, particularly if you run, walk a lot, are on your feet a lot or wear sandals etc without socks or tights - they also get physically dirty. I think not washing your feet a great deal more suspect from an odour and dirt point of view than peeing in the shower.

Munchyseeds · 25/05/2018 17:22

Never have, never Will!! Just seems wrong

HunnidBands · 25/05/2018 17:25

Yes, @Ontopofthesunset,
I was very surprised by how many people thought standing in shower water cleaned their feet automatically. I wouldn’t feel clean unless I properly soaped everything, including my feet!

TheLifeChangingMagicOfMarmite · 25/05/2018 18:38

I never thought about it until I read it on MN -honest! Not a germaphobe just don't really see the point of pissing all down my legs when there's a perfectly good toilet right next to the shower Grin

I wonder what the overlap is between people who rinse all their dishes under a running tap and people who wee in the shower because it saves water.

GladAllOver · 25/05/2018 19:30

When I shower I wash my hair first, then body from face down to bottom so the feet are washed with soap last of all. Isn't that the logical way to do it?

GladAllOver · 25/05/2018 19:34

If you don't like urine running down your legs in the soapy water, what about the filthy water from washing your anus? That runs down your legs too. And it may have some solid matter that could stick to your legs.
Perhaps having a shower, you need to have another shower to wash off the dirt left on you from the first shower!

newtlover · 25/05/2018 19:38

have not rtft, but am always rather surprised by how hot urine is, often hotter than the shower!
am happy to wee in the shower, but if washing up by hand try to rinse - but in a bowl, not under a tap

HunnidBands · 25/05/2018 19:43

I wash my hair last but other than that I do the same. Finish off with a bit of a pumicing while my conditioner sets to work.

Ps. I don’t piss in the shower and take umbrage at being called a liar. It would honestly never occur to me to do it as I use the toilet before getting into the shower as a matter of routine.

Bea1985 · 25/05/2018 19:46

I absolutely love pissing on the shower.

HunnidBands · 25/05/2018 19:47

‘On’ the shower. That’s novel!

sonithewoni · 25/05/2018 20:22

I pee as the shower is warming up and stomp in it :-) it's fabulous for hard skin

squiz81 · 25/05/2018 20:27

If its wrong i dont want to be right!

It doesnt splash it just runs down gently. Im on a water meter its more economical to wee in the shower. My shower shares a drain with my toilet so no hygiene issues.

Try it you might like it!

Ethylred · 25/05/2018 20:31

Such fun isn't it.

IncyWincyMouseRat · 25/05/2018 20:34

Do people who are so squeamish about urine that they couldn’t per in the shower also making their partners wipe their genitalia with anti-bac wipes before sex? Hmm
