Is there a new thread about this?

The article was extremely badly written and just seemed to pulled bits and pieces Of info from here and Instagram. No in-depth research or grasp of what the real issue is.

These instagrammers label themselves as ‘influencers’. If you’re going to try influence others, then there has to be ethics. Trying to make people believe that an ordinary Joe Soap should be able to achieve a certain lifestyle - trying to influence us to buy the latest trendy small brand children’s labels, ready to prepared meals, holidays galore, small brand jewellery, make-up, beauty treatments, furniture, a new item of clothing every day - the list goes on. And most are very reluctant to say the reason they have all they do is because it was gifted, etc. There are influencing people to that everyone should have all this.

And the over-sharing with regards to children - some pop their cute children on to Instastories and if you want to strip it back you get the impression they’re doing so in the hope they’ll be gifted toys, clothes, books, etc for their child. (I’ve even seen one influencer saying how some company that sells pet accessories sent them stuff and then noticed another influencer suddenly showing their pet at every opportunity).

Putting photos and videos of their children on Instagram that you just know they’ll cringe at when they look back over when they’re older. Sharing details about their behaviour, creating scenes with children to promote their ‘brand’ further,

The whole area needs to be regulated with codes of practice.

I would be pretty devastated if that article was about me. I wonder if this will only increase the allegations of bullying or start making influencers really think about the way they conduct themselves.

DillyDilly · 23/05/2018 10:55

@kirinm. I’d be devastated myself but the writer did say they’d contacted MOD and she didn’t want to comment so at least she was forewarned.

Moonkissedlegs · 23/05/2018 10:59

I thought it kicked off after the lollipop thing but a lot of it was to do with the book about race and the comments underneath that?

greygray · 23/05/2018 11:06

Has anyone read the Look article? Very ill advised

Jackiebrambles · 23/05/2018 11:19

That article is very badly written!

But it's pretty damning also. I wonder if it will open the floodgates for other kinds of articles (other than Hadley's in the Guardian which was weeks ago of course!).

Ultimately using pictures of your children to make money, when they can't consent, leaving a digital footprint of them (not to mention the safety aspect) is just morally, really dodgy. I think the instamum gravy train might be ending. Unless there's some real 'content' there - rather than just fluff.

caperberries · 23/05/2018 11:21

Yes, the Look article is dreadful.

In terms of the KK/Lollipop controversy, I wasn't following it at the time, but I can see why some may have found it hypocritical. I assume because it's all about selling an unattainable ideal. Which pretty much all Influencers are guilty of. Revealing a flaw or vulnerability in the occasional post, or those endless humblebrags about the picturesque struggles of parenting toddlers, don't make the overall image they are crafting any less unrealistic or unattainable.

I think the instamum gravy train might be ending

I've noticed that some former Instamums have change their focus as the dc grow up/ become less cute or photogenic/ start to object to having their pictures taken.

Ciara Elliot's feed used to be devoted her dd's, but has now evolved into an interiors one.

I imagine there will always be new Instamums with younger children to take their place. I can't see it coming to an end, without regulatory intervention or a change to Instagram's business model.

As things stand, it's currently still providing a free platform for plenty of lucrative Influencers.

I would hope that some kind of regulation around using children would come about eventually. But that's probably years away!

MarshaBradyo · 23/05/2018 11:31

I can't remember the French article on this but it would be great if people started to talk about the same thing here

I suppose there'll always be someone who wants that type of article like the one in Look written about them but hopefully people will start to think about children and consent

MediocrePenguin · 23/05/2018 11:45

There's a Daily Mail article now. She'd have been better just taking a break from insta - shutting it all down just draws even more attention to her.

kirinm · 23/05/2018 11:51

Well I bet MOD is chuffed and thankful to NSSM now as undoubtedly her post yesterday drew more attention to MOD coming off instagram than anything else.

MarshaBradyo · 23/05/2018 11:54

Well that DM article makes the other one look like a Pulitzer

Very hard to even look at let alone read

finks100 · 23/05/2018 11:56

NSSN really didn’t help. Nor did SV saying she would cut someone who was mean nor did CBs rant.
Their behaviour is aggressive and totally unpleasant and really hasn’t helped any discussion but has shown the utter ‘ganging up’ of the fangirls against discussion!

nipersvest · 23/05/2018 11:59

is it being assumed it was MOD who disabled her account, surely no-one knows this for sure? It's possible it could have been taken down by Instagram if someone reported it.

PunsandNeedles · 23/05/2018 12:18

Anybody got the link to the DM article? can't see it

sparklefluff · 23/05/2018 12:19

Ffs.

This wasn't the point being made.

sparklefluff · 23/05/2018 12:21

Hey, newspapers.

Why don't you actually read what has been written and ask some questions. You're missing the point.

Many thanks

Non instafamous parents.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 23/05/2018 12:28

How is this even news? She’s not a celebrity. 500,000 followers on insta isn’t THAT unusual. I didn’t even know who she was until all these threads started. All of this is so bizarre. What a world we live in.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5761301/amp/Insta-mum-blogger-quits-app-amid-claims-exploiting-children.html

Found it. Where did they get her instragram photos from if the account is closed?

PunsandNeedles · 23/05/2018 12:42

Caperberries ta, x post

caperberries · 23/05/2018 12:48

I think the pics are from FOD's account
