to never bleach our door frames?

Just came across this on another thread.

So many questions.

OP posts:
wakemeupbefore · 22/05/2018 06:57

Wandered aimlessly around a shop few weeks back - as one does, and was floored [ha] by overwhelming, sickly sweet odour. Before bolting for my life, decided to investigate the cause of the offencive stink and found a spilt bottle of Zoflora.
One can't bleach one's nose or one would Grin, just to get rid of the memory of that ghastly smell... Sad

Sleephead1 · 22/05/2018 07:00

I've never done it I didn't know it was a thing ?

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 22/05/2018 07:02

Sounds like a euphemism for anal bleaching

Presumably the back door then?

lostinsunshine · 22/05/2018 07:02

Has anyone mentioned spider willies yet?

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 22/05/2018 07:05

Spiders have cocks? Shock

nervousnails · 22/05/2018 07:05

The mind boggles. People actually wash their walls??? And Bleach doorframes???? I'd better not invite anyone to my house. We live in filth, by these standards!

FrillySpidersWillies · 22/05/2018 07:32

Did someone mention spiders willies Grin

MightyMucks · 22/05/2018 07:48

I wanted someone to engage in a bit of oneupmanship.

‘You only bleach? Your door frames? I napalm mine daily them expose them to radiation once a week’.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 22/05/2018 07:52

How common. I have my door frames replaced once a week.

smurfy2015 · 22/05/2018 07:58

@ unoffical rule, always mention spiders willies

My doorframes are au natureul at the moment...
Dare i try bleach.... or fraglze in place of a vagjazzle

I will be moving house hopefully this year i will add that to the "to do" clean for this one, to make sure that the door frames are all bleached to within an inch of their lives, the floors are scented with zoflora, some soda crystals and hot water in the sinks, shower, toilet.

Im not able to do it over the past number of years and have descended into hoarding situations, once where mh sw organised a clearance and last year from physical health side where they sent out 2 support workers to help me go thru everything and link in with other things.

before being physically disabled i loved cleaning the house and took great pride in it, i did skirting boards and tops of cabinets and doors weekly, starting everything at the top and tipping any dust to the bottom

spiders willies, spiders willies. spiders willies

Actually might borrow that to use with my partner the word not the spiders willies as a code name for special time together as we are both going thru hell but we just want to keep going till we get thru it, the relationship is good, its life challenges so spiders willies time is protected and precious

And giggle, snigger, burp

spiders willies

@staples corner, the yellowing isn't to to do with pollution, it's because they've taken all the nasties out of the gloss and now it yellows soon after painting. I think what you need is water based gloss which stays white but is more expensive.

formerbabe · 22/05/2018 08:00

Doesn't everyone? But you still bleach them on the hour, every hour right?

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 22/05/2018 08:01

I've never bleached a door frame in my life. I didn't know that was a thing. Going by this thread it's not.

FrillySpidersWillies · 22/05/2018 08:05

My DP has an hourly list in which he rigorously bleaches the door frames and then replaces, primes and coats with egg shell. Anything other than that is disgusting.

FrillySpidersWillies · 22/05/2018 08:06

Oh @formerbabe you have the hourly list too? He also replaces the sheets, duvet and pillows every half hour Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 22/05/2018 08:12

Hard water people, citric acid is amazing for descaling. Cheaper than descaler, better than lemon juice.

BeyondThePage · 22/05/2018 08:17

no bleach here... soapy water when stuff looks mucky...

too late then probably, we will all be doomed to death by dirty door frame... doomed I tell you...

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/05/2018 08:17

I saw that on the other thread too and had a quick panic before realising that everyone else was also going WTAF??

I spend too much time on housework as it is, and my house gets cleaned once a week (dusting/hoovering/bathrooms, etc - none of this “deep clean” stuff), beds and towels changed, laundry, ironing. How on earth do people find time to do more than that?!

Also, I don’t bleach door frames, wipe down skirting boards, zoflora (whatever that is) anything, and you could count on one hand the number of tummy upsets/illnesses other than colds we have had in the last twenty years.

I am firmly convinced that there is such a thing as too clean, healthwise.

FleurDelacoeur · 22/05/2018 08:22

Never use bleach anywhere apart from in the loo. If the door frames are looking grubby with sticky fingers they get a wipe over with soapy water.

I don't give two hoots what other people are doing, some have too much time on their hands and get stupidly excited about their cleaning routine. I'd rather be doing more interesting things.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/05/2018 08:23

Same as any paintwork, I wipe them down when I notice that they could do with it. Which is probably about once a year. I dare say it would have been a bit more often when we had young children and animals.

I don't know whether there are more clean-freaks on MN than in the general population, but it certainly seems like it sometimes.

DailyMailClickbait · 22/05/2018 08:24

White gloss also goes yellow more quickly if it doesn't get any sunlight on it - so bits of the woodwork that are in the shade, behind doors etc., will discolour quicker than windowsills which are in sunlight.

I remain baffled and amazed at the things one learns from MN. I never knew that I should have been bleaching my doorframes! I don't use bleach anyway (septic tank), but I suppose I can add cleaning/scouring/burning my doorframes to the list of things I should be doing, alongside not letting my washing be darked on and burning my tea towels daily...

stegosauruslady · 22/05/2018 08:31

I did bleach them once, when we all had the norovirus that would never end. No idea if it helped, but I was losing the plot by that point and bleached anything that stood still long enough.

ToadOfSadness · 22/05/2018 08:37

Zoflora is revolting, it stinks and can cause headaches and breathing difficulties due to the crap that is in it. I mistakenly thought it was something great after reading about it on here and had to clean it all off everything I used it on. Nasty stuff if you have sensitivities, like those poisonous reed diffusers that take the skin off pets.

I am odd I suppose, I clean my door frames with bleach to remove the fingerprints and stickiness, the upstairs ones that are white gloss that is, not the plain wood ones. I also clean the doors. I don't do it often or anything, just when I clean out wardrobes etc. Just a little bit on a cloth.

Jamhandprints · 22/05/2018 08:38

I have to wipe doors, frames, handles and light switches most days because of the sticky monsters I live with but I would never bleach them. And I would never zoflora them because I can't stand the smell afterwards.
Just quick a wet cloth or a cleaning wipe over the chocolate/ mud/ jam/ marshmallow/ porridge/ soap/ bolognese/ ketchup/ ice lolly/ blood/ poo marks though. :-) and 10 seconds later the marks are back

trickyboots · 22/05/2018 08:40

Yeah I saw that. Soapy water here, once every, erm, year or so?
