Just came across this on another thread.

So many questions.

OP posts:

blimey Birds good on you but that’s a level of cleaning above mine. Smile

Birdsgottafly · 21/05/2018 23:15

"What other stuff am I supposed to bleach? Other than the loo, I am a bleaching novice.
Also, what is zoflora?"

It's a disinfectant, the smell lasts and they do lovely scents, in it.

You don't really need bleach. I'm old school, I use Bicarb, Baking powder and soda crystals, as well.

Ohmydays, thanks for the offer, but I'm too busy painting the garden fences and digging out the borders.

Ohmydayslove · 21/05/2018 23:17

Birds Grin

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 23:19

Ohmydays...well yes Confused...I think it’s a basic hygiene rule not to use the same cloths/mops/sponges etc to clean the room in which you prepare food and cook - to clean the bathroom where you shit 😂 - and vice vests? I thought that was just the norm? Surely?

Loonoon · 21/05/2018 23:19

I am old. I am lucky enough to own several homes in nice parts of the world which we share with friends and family so we have many many visitors which means the houses have to be clean and welcoming at all times. This is pretty labour intensive and my house cleaning standards are high, for me and any cleaners I might employ. I have never, ever bleached a door frame. I have cleaned them when needed (mostly when pets or small children have rubbed up against them) but have never seen the need to kill germs on them.

That being said, I hardly ever use bleach at all and a-don't keep it in the house. I think too many people substitute bleaching for proper cleaning. For me cleaning means scrubbing, scouring and rinsing until dirt has been removed not pouring bleach on to dirt and then leaving the bleached and discoloured dirt residue in situ.

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 23:21

I’m with you there Loon...not a huge fan of bleach either. White vinegar however......👌

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 23:22

Vice versa...not vests!

Ohmydayslove · 21/05/2018 23:29

Oh I wouldnt clean the bog and then the kitchen surface with the same cloth! Even I know better than that Grin

But different mop heads? For stone floors? Na not having that. Probability is bodily fluids in my kitchen anyway as have 3 teenagers. Wink

MistAmougstElephants · 21/05/2018 23:29

I wish I cared and had the energy for cleaning, I like a clean house but the effort that goes into it Confused

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 23:30

😂😂

Singlenotsingle · 21/05/2018 23:31

It's gotta be a wind up

Haffiana · 21/05/2018 23:32

I sometimes think that what some people would consider normal, I would consider as a psychological problem.

Zoflorabore · 21/05/2018 23:35

Jeez- I have OCD and clean a lot and have tried pretty much everything but I draw the line at bleaching the door frames.

I hate bleach!

I do however love Zoflora, hence the name Grin

reachforthewine · 21/05/2018 23:37

I saw this!

I've never done it, but I probably should.

Loonoon · 21/05/2018 23:37

Luisa27. I also love white vinegar for cleaning. £2.65 for 5 litres at out local Chinese supermarket. That, ecloths, flash and srubby sponges are vital. I have also started using robot vacs and they are great too. So thorough.

And if you have a lot of hard floors think about one of these. I got one last week and have already ordered two more.

mamansnet · 21/05/2018 23:42

I'm going to add this to DH's To Do list

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 23:55

Oooooh - Loon I love the look of this!
We do have a lot of hard floors - my sister has something very similar - think I may be tempted Smile

StaplesCorner · 21/05/2018 23:55

I was just about to join in and now I think you lot with your aircraft vacuums are waaaay outta my league.

So I have a bleach related question - I've just had my woodwork glossed, and now its turning yellow - we live near a major road and H says this is the "particulate" from the omissions sticking to the paint. Can bleach solve this? I mean are we talking spray bleach and if so, doesn't it damage the walls? I have many questions.

BlueBug45 · 22/05/2018 00:01

Bleach ruins paint.

I clean door frames as they get grubby and the tops gather dust but not with beach.

CaptainCabinets · 22/05/2018 00:02

I’ve only ever done it once, and that’s because I brushed past the door frame with dye on my hair Blush

eightfacesofthemoon · 22/05/2018 00:13

I love bleach
Sorry! I was on the other thread, and fessed up to bleaching all kinds of things!
It’s just easy and lazy
And I don’t care if it’s fake clean! If it looks clean then that’s ok with me

Puffycat · 22/05/2018 00:16

Bleaching door frames, peeling grapes, stuffing olives these are just a few things on my list of “things I really can’t br effing arsed to do”
There are more, much, but I don’t want to bore you

Rach5l · 22/05/2018 00:41

I used to do this as a cleaner. Once a year in spring I'd have to bleach the white pvc window frames (outside) because they'd become discoloured over winter. Normal imo 🤷‍♀️

DixieFlatline · 22/05/2018 00:53

When doing a proper clean I clean the kitchen surfaces etc. first, then the sinks in the bathroom, then make my way through the levels of 'dirty' in the toilet (cistern, lid, seat, and so on) and finish by throwing the cloth away.

People who keep separate cloths for each - what do you do with them? Do you wash them in detergent and rinse, leave them in a bucket of something, bleach them, put them in the wash, what? And if you're cleaning a cloth well enough to have it hanging around for multiple toilet cleans, presumably you judge it clean enough to wipe the bathroom sink and the bath/shower each time prior to the toilet? If so, why wouldn't you clean your kitchen with it? I don't think I'd like to 'risk it' with sinks/showers any more than I'd like to with kitchen counters.

Incidentally I have not bleached any door frames, but I do get very brown droplet stains on the white doors/frames if anyone flicks water on them and leaves it to dry. I live in a rather hard water area, though how that relates to brown marks in addition to the limescale everywhere, I don't quite know.

Time40 · 22/05/2018 01:12

Also, what is zoflora?

I thought you were not allowed to join Mumsnet unless you knew what it was.
