Vile sloppy nastiness... other than as fries at which stage I will stab you with a fork to get to them Grin

ALittleAubergine · 17/05/2018 22:17

The reason why they're supposedly better for you than potatoes is very nonsensical. At least it doesn't make sense to me. Just check the NHS website and let me know what on earth it actually means...

Marmalady75 · 17/05/2018 22:17

I was told that an enzyme in them was used to create an early version of the pill by a well regarded consultant when having trouble ttc. He told me to cut them out of my diet.

kaytee87 · 17/05/2018 22:17

Love sweet potato.
Sweet potato, butternut squash & chilli soup is heaven in a bowl.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/05/2018 22:18

Sweet potatoes are lovely, sweet potato fries are lovely. Bloody Aunt Bessie carrot fries on the other hand are an abomination.

School12345 · 17/05/2018 22:18

Sweet potatoes are gross. So sweet and not at all like a potato. I've tried to like them but they are every kind of wrong, they make me wince.

School12345 · 17/05/2018 22:19

I reckon the same people like sweet potatos as like avocados.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 17/05/2018 22:20

Roasted or chipped, or covered in a dusting of paprika...yum! 🤤

Bridechilla · 17/05/2018 22:20

They're are the brioche burger bun of vegetables. Too sweet and clash with most meals.

IWantMyHatBack · 17/05/2018 22:20

Carrots can fuck off

Hassled · 17/05/2018 22:21

It's true that I like both sweet potatoes and avocados. But I hate asparagus. Is that relevant?

TulipsInAJug · 17/05/2018 22:21

Parsnips are nicer. Just as sweet.

Butternut squash - that's the real con. A pain to prepare and tasteless mush.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 17/05/2018 22:22

I like parsnips but hate avocados. Avocados taste like snot and I cannot see why a certain class of shopper inhales them so much.

IWantMyHatBack · 17/05/2018 22:22

😂

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 17/05/2018 22:23

I be forced to cliff parsnips shag sweet potatoes and marry potatoes

No one should make you cliff parsnips.

Get your ducks in a row and change the locks.

firstimer91 · 17/05/2018 22:23

They count as one of your five a day, roasted like chips mmmmmm

Battleax · 17/05/2018 22:25

Indeed, apart from appearance and flavour, sweet potatoes are just like parsnips.

Hipster food.

Asparagus is fine, it's been around a while.

I think avocados were invented circa 2004, I'd put sweet potatos at 2008.

RaininSummer · 17/05/2018 22:26

I want to like the knobbly little buggers but they are just so horribly sweet.

Battleax · 17/05/2018 22:26

They’re good with tart flavours such as cottage cheese.

Lucisky · 17/05/2018 22:27

Butternut squash is wonderful! Sliced, De seeded and roasted with chunks of red onion is delicious. Sweet potato is lovely roasted too, but is a bit mushy as a mash.

doctorcuntybollocks · 17/05/2018 22:27

The only vegetables I don't get on with are Jerusalem artichokes.
They taste good - like an enhanced parsnip - but I feel like I'm dying after I eat them

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/05/2018 22:27

I don't think I have ever eaten asparagus or artichokes.

manicinsomniac · 17/05/2018 22:27

I think they taste amazing.

But I was very confused when I realised they have the same number of calories and the same grams of fat (and of carbohydate, obviously) as normal potatoes do.

The only difference I can find is the GI but, unless you're diabetic, I don't really know that that's all that important?

I'm very nervous of potato anyway so I do have a tendency to go for sweet potato due it's reputation of being healthier. But I'm not so sure it's true - I think maybe YANBU.

isseywithcats · 17/05/2018 22:28

sweet potatoes are very tasty, as jacket with cheese and coleslaw and loads of butter, roasted or mashed, admittedly they are sweet so i probably only eat them once a week, but they always taste healthier than ordinary spuds
