to have so many driving peeves?

This is kind of just for fun but I’m intrigued to know what everyone’s top 3 driving peeves are... I’ll start...

  1. No indicators. Got to be. Especially on busy roundabouts, junctions etc or when cutting you up on dual carriageway. Anytime really 🙄
  2. Drivers who don’t say thank you when you’ve done something nice. Like it’s just a little wave but it makes all the difference! 👋🏻
  3. Drivers who can’t stick to one speed limit on a dual carriageway. Going from 70 to 90 to 80 is just silly. I usually find it goes I overtake them, they overtake me, then I overtake them, then they overtake me. It’s ridiculous. Does make me giggle at how much more fuel they’ll use 🤣 (not to brag but I have the luxury of cruise control so I know it’s not me!)

Please do let me know. I’m very curious.

For me? Drivers who think with their steering wheel.

Will I park here? (turns wheel left)
Maybe I’ll see if there’s a better one ahead. (turns wheel right)
Oooo is that a new doughnut shop? (turns wheel left)
I really shouldn’t, I’m running late already (turns wheel, speeds up)
Well, one won’t hurt! (turns wheel left, brakes).

Had one the other day, so indecisive she collected 5 cars around her who she was blocking as we stared in amazement. Finally settled on parking in the middle of the road to let out a passenger. She got both barrels from me, was most surprised and indignant. The look on her face was pure ‘why should I do something that doesn’t suit me?’. Grrrr.

Sparklyshoes16 · 17/05/2018 22:42

@Narya ooh this happened to my friend on Monday evening, bloody great big 4x4 thing...she swerved to avoid it and ended up in a ditch and couldn't get the car out...the driver stopped shouted at her and drove off...luckily a farmer saw it and came to her aid and even more lucky knows the driver of the 4x4...local village 'big I am' idiot...the police knocked on his door Tuesday evening...not such the big I am as he's being charged with driving off at the scene of an accident! Smile

hotchips · 17/05/2018 22:42

All of the above.

But I’ll also add ponderous, hesitant drivers. If the light’s gone to green just crack on! If there’s a gap at the roundabout move off! There are traffic lights near me that you can only get 3 cars through when it goes green even if everyone is on the ball. There was a car the other day that took so long to get shifting they didn’t even get their own car through!

bluemoonchances · 17/05/2018 22:46

Oh I get rage in the car!

  1. people who do not understand that 2 lanes merging isn't "pushing in" its two lanes merging! Just take turns and trying to undertake me thus pushing me into on coming traffic

  2. similar vein, when the road merges 200 meters ahead .... cars that straddle both lanes be cause they can't bear the thought that the often empty right hand lane users will over take them... YOU ARE OBSTRUCTING THE ROAD... USE THE EMPTY BLOODY LANE YOU IDIOT THATS WHY IT'S THERE!!!

Cars that sit in the outside lane of a national speed limit duel carriageway smugly doing 60 because they think that's the speed limit... IT'S 70 YOU TWAT, MOVE OVER!!!

And breathe! Grin

carefreeeee · 17/05/2018 22:48

Pavement parking and those who think it's OK to stop in dangerous places especially outside schools

Drivers who don't give way to pedestrians at junctions (or who hoot at other drivers who are giving way)

Drivers who drive too close to cyclists

Drivers who speed and jump red lights

Velvetbee · 17/05/2018 22:48

Indicating. It’s a good job we can’t carry guns in this country because I’d be in prison.

Skittlesandbeer · 17/05/2018 22:48

Thought of another one. Men drivers ‘who wave me on, with an ‘I own the road, girly’ gesture when clearly the right of way was MINE.

If I’m feeling bolshy, I sit still and put a sarky ‘helpless doll’ look on my face, hands in the ‘oh gosh, what could I possibly do next, I’m so confused’ position. I can keep this up for quite a while. They tend to implode a bit.

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:55

@babybythesea I have a funny/scary story about reversing in country lanes. We were coming back from the Lake District (known for its tiny country roads in places) and this moron had taken a wrong turn up a single track with passing places road. Rather than carry on up the road they proceeded to reverse, very very badly and slowly, all the way back down to the junction they had taken said wrong turn from. It was a good mile of reversing and instead of pulling in and letting a rather long queue of cars past, they just kept going. Needless to say they got A LOT of death stares and horns beeped!!!

Using hazards to say thank you, or even worse, flicking the indicators left to right for a bit

snowsun · 17/05/2018 23:06

You see people loose their rag with other drivers over the smallest thing. Like they are perfect drivers.

bumblenbean · 17/05/2018 23:07

All the above! But also, failing to turn indicators back OFF after making the manoeuvre thus confusing everyone behind. Surely all cars these days have pretty obvious flashing/ticking on the dash to show you it’s still on??

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 23:08

@this is a FOR FUN post. None of us are saying we’re perfect drivers 🙄

OP posts:
littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 23:08

Sorry that should have been @snowsun.

OP posts:
littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 23:09

@bumblenbean AW YES!!! How anyone can drive along with the tic, tic, tic, tic, tic, tic going is beyond me!!!

OP posts:
ApocalypseNowt · 17/05/2018 23:11

Oooh I quite like a flash of the hazards for a thank you!

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 23:12

I really have to disagree with this from Sparklesocks:

"Mine is people who you haven’t let in but they just edge out from their junction until you’re forced to stop because you’re nearly going to hit them"

Sometimes it is absolutely necessary to slowly and incrementally edge out of a junction or onto a roundabout - when the traffic situation dictates it and their is a long queue stretching a 1/2 mile or more behind you. The traffic with the right of way just keeps moving completely oblivious, whilst the queued traffic trying to exit the junction or join the roundabout just gets longer, and longer and interminably longer. At blackspots like this there should be traffic light control or similar to allow equitable access to the roundabout etc but sometimes there just isn't and a sensible driver is obliged to just slowly edge out and hope that the motorist with the right of way has the common sense and observational skills to read the road situation, and realise that this is a reasonable manoeuvre

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 23:14

Yes me too ApocalypseNowt

JaniceBattersby · 17/05/2018 23:16

People who queue in the left lane for miles, when the right lane is empty. If I drive down the empty lane then let me in at the end because I’m not ‘queue jumping’ Hmm, I’m merging in turn, LIKE YOURE SUPPOSED TO.

Don’t beep, shake your head, try to not let me in. I’m in the right.

Sparklesocks · 17/05/2018 23:18

I understand there are certain scenarios where it might be needed hmcAsWas but I was referring more to impatient drivers with no cars behind them who just pull out in front of you because waiting more than 10 second at a junction is too much of a burden on their busy lives.

bluemoonchances · 17/05/2018 23:19

YES Janice YES!! That's my biggest peeve!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 17/05/2018 23:20

I get so much pleasure from letting cars in on a merge junction when I have a MLR (merge lane refuser) behind me.

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 23:20

@JaniceBattersby perhaps but I think that strongly depends on the situation/place. There’s a road around mine that comes off a large roundabout. The left lane is for going straight on towards the next roundabout and the right lane (hopefully without outing here!) runs half way up the road but is strictly for turning right onto the A1.
I DETEST it when people speed up the right hand lane then push their way in when other people have been queuing patiently.

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 23:20

Oh well, fair enough then Sparkle! That would be rather entitled behaviour

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 23:20

Ooooo yes @PelvicFloorClenchReminder me too!!

Sparklesocks · 17/05/2018 23:21
