to have so many driving peeves?

This is kind of just for fun but I’m intrigued to know what everyone’s top 3 driving peeves are... I’ll start...

  1. No indicators. Got to be. Especially on busy roundabouts, junctions etc or when cutting you up on dual carriageway. Anytime really 🙄
  2. Drivers who don’t say thank you when you’ve done something nice. Like it’s just a little wave but it makes all the difference! 👋🏻
  3. Drivers who can’t stick to one speed limit on a dual carriageway. Going from 70 to 90 to 80 is just silly. I usually find it goes I overtake them, they overtake me, then I overtake them, then they overtake me. It’s ridiculous. Does make me giggle at how much more fuel they’ll use 🤣 (not to brag but I have the luxury of cruise control so I know it’s not me!)

Please do let me know. I’m very curious.

People who clearly don’t have proper control of their car and are weaving, accelerating and breaking erratically and far out from the kerb. All at slow speed. Makes those dick moves (like undertaking at the lights) so much more dangerous.

crispysausagerolls · 17/05/2018 22:12

Whitelisbon

Yes! In fog and driving rain, the people who do 90+ on the motorway are terrifying - if I can't even see the car in front, it's like they are on suicide missions.

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:13

@Dhalandchips oooo were all gonna be cursing you 😂 I would say get the bus but personally you would never see me on one (mainly because to get from my little town into city centre where I work it’s 1 hour 30 mins. No thanks!) so would never ask anyone else too lol

Depends with parking on the drive a lot of families have two cars. We do and dh parks on the drive as he has the bigger car but is out of the house at half 5

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 17/05/2018 22:13

Not saying thank you.

Barging towards me when it’s clearly my right of way.

Being “nice” letting me go when it’s very clearly your right of way - it’s confusing and makes me think you don’t know wtf you are doing - JUST FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE DAMNED ROAD!

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:14

@crispysausagerolls yes I think some drivers have a death wish. I don’t though so I’d love it if the fucked off.

Dancingmonkey87 · 17/05/2018 22:17

Groups of cyclists blocking the road riding side by side chatting.

Mobility scooters on the road have no awareness of road safety whatsoever.

Amanduh · 17/05/2018 22:19

YES INDICATORS!! I moan about this every day, finally someone feels my pain. I’m NOT A FUCKING MIND READER

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:19

Groups of cyclists blocking the road riding side by side chatting I get so annoyed by this I looked up the rules for cyclists and UNFORTUNATELY the Highway Code does state that it’s better in large groups to ride side by side or abreast as it’s less distance to overtake. Still don’t agree with it or like it thought when they’re meandering along chatting!!!

I dont particularly care about others driving, there is nothing i can do about it, so why worry?
Everyone makes mistakes, so i concentrate on not getting caught up in their driving errors, or mine for that matter matter!

But folk who use BREAK when referring to using a cars braking system, is highly annoying, what is wrong with the education system in this country?

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:20

@Amanduh oh are you not?! Damn!
🤣🤣🤣

OP posts:
littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:22

@jasjas1973 spelling/punctuation/grammar/education in this country will be a different thread if you’d care to start it?

Helpmeltb · 17/05/2018 22:22

Oh these have just reminded me of another...the driver yesterday in front of me who drive through the green light (in a 40 zone) then slammed her brakes in to let 3 card turning off turn in front of her. I nearly went in the back of her. FFS, they'll turn right when the lights change but if yoy really must let them turn then stop before the lights cos nobody is expecting you to do an emergency stop in the middle of a junction to let a car turn in front of you.

jasjas1973 · 17/05/2018 22:22

@littleemma1

So, not only do you think you are the worlds best driver and know more than the experts who design and write the highway code but also think anyone who is in your way should move aside too?

jasjas1973 · 17/05/2018 22:24

@littleemma1
When some says they do not like cars breaking in front of them, i assume they are talking about the general reliability of cars?

Helpmeltb · 17/05/2018 22:24

@jasjas1973 if you're referring to me, I'd say a combination of tiredness from working a ridiculous amount of hours and autocorrect on my phone. Hmm

crazymumofthree · 17/05/2018 22:25

Mine are...

  1. Not saying thank you when I let them go!!
  1. Idiots that can't park - you wait 5 minutes to get past in the car park whilst they manoeuvre in to a space that could fit a bus!!
  1. People that bump other cars then drive off - witnessed this twice now recently! Unfortunately I've been alone driving so couldn't get reg plate in time safely.
  1. Non disabled people (no badge) parking in the disabled bay - (I myself am not disabled so not because I need it but someone else may do!) one of the mums on the school run does this without fail and also in our local mini supermarket just so they are 1 or 2 spaces closer to the door - lazy CF's!!
  1. The old next door neighbours who thought it was fine to keep blocking my car in on my driveway (had shared driveway so they could park in the middle between houses but we had had our side paved so we could park both our cars in our front garden!) they would park in the middle but instead of moving right up so we could get off they would block us, workmen did their driveway and again kept parking over the drive until one day I got fed up of asking nicely and lost the plot! Got our own back when we moved out over the course of a week just after they had had their side done as we parked the moving van uk the middle as they did for us!
Dancingmonkey87 · 17/05/2018 22:26

There’s always one to spoil a fun thread isn’t there.

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:26

@jasjas1973 I’m not sure where I ever said I’m a perfect driver? If you read back through I actually specifically said I’m NOT a perfect driver.
I by no means expect people to move, but when you’re dilly dallying along in a group of 30 cyclists along a rather long stretch of road with no over taking points it’s tedious.
Also, this was/is meant to be “for laughs” so kindly take your seriousness away 😁

OP posts:
littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:29

Ooooo they’re some good ones @crazymumofthree. I also hate it when people who have no kids use parent and child spaces out of pure laziness!! I’ve actually asked someone to move before and the flounced off 😡

OP posts:
littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:29

@Dancingmonkey87 isn’t there just 🙄

OP posts:
Sparklyshoes16 · 17/05/2018 22:30

@littleemma1 so true...I saw a car today with all the side bashed in...he was lighting a cigarette and on phone whilst sitting all the way back and hardly able to see over the steering wheel the things that really pissed me off was a kid in the back that should have been in a car seat but wasn't 😡

Narya · 17/05/2018 22:31

I try not to waste much emotional energy on other drivers, but:

  1. Tailgating - It's both twattish and dangerous and there is literally no excuse for it.
  2. When you let a driver pull out of a side road and all the drivers behind them try to pull out too.
  3. People who don't know how wide their car is on country roads with no lines down the middle. I don't like having to put my car in the ditch because the sod coming the other way is in the middle of the road.
littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 22:34

@Narya I REEAALLLLYY try not to get so wound up but I just can’t help it!! What’s your secret?!

OP posts:
babybythesea · 17/05/2018 22:35

People who can't reverse.
We live in the arse end of nowhere. With tiny country lanes with lots of blind bends. Do not get into your car if you are not entirely sure where reverse is on your gear stick.
I have grown much more belligerent of late. If I know that I have the shortest distance to reverse, and there is a good passing place behind me, I will happily reverse. Or if it is a tractor or something which is clearly big and going to be a nightmare to reverse.
But if it is a normal car, and they have a passing space 10 yards behind them, I am not going to reverse three miles back round five blind bends because they can't be arsed. I am getting much better at sitting there waiting for them and refusing to move.
I am thinking particularly of the little white car in front of me last week that tried to face down a tractor with a trailer on, the driver eventually realised that it was a losing battle and (s)he would have to go back, and then took 25 bloody minutes to reverse about 50m- round a bend I know but still, it took me less than 5 minutes, and (s)he knew I was there so another car wasn't going to come round the bend and bump into them - I wasn't late when I set out but I was by the end of that mess. Back a bit. Forward, and straighten up. Back again, nope, forward and straighten, back into the bank. Drive forwards again. I was rather cross.

And breathe.
