It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

...... and now, again, she gets it wrong by asking her followers to play nice.......... in the magic, disappearing, I didn't really say it, story. Glad she is following this thread so closely.

Seeing as I'm ranting...

The mental health thing. Jesus. Christ.

Doing a post about 'oh I suffer with *xxxxx

And then following it with peachy perfect shots of another free holiday. Some free clothes, some free cars... yeah that is so supporting mental health awareness.

A mental health day led by midwife, a doula, a life coach and NB. For £84? NONE of these people are remotely qualified in the field of mental health. Quackery to the max, right there.

Reboot · 16/05/2018 20:24

I want a lavender flannel now.

Reboot · 16/05/2018 20:24

Sounds like a legit way of solving people's mental health issues.

It includes 'Guided conversation around managing our emotions and our mental health' - WHO is guiding this?

£84-86 would pay for about 4 hours of psychotherapy, which would be MUCH more beneficial to anybody struggling with their mental health.

totallyliterally · 16/05/2018 20:28

The majority of people will attend this hoping if they get in with the bloggers that they might hit the big time.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 20:30

Reboot Lavender flannel Grin

Really thank goodness for the sanity on here. Bless you all.

jamoncrumpets · 16/05/2018 20:35

I'm so tired of opportunists using mental illness to make a cheap buck. I've been on antidepressants for nearly twenty years. I have had some absolutely crushing lows. I'm pretty sure it broke my DM's heart to see me struggling as a teenager. And it really bothers me to know that I might actually buy into this shit when I'm unwell, it's preying on fragility.

Oh guys I'm so sorry, the mental health blaggers on IG must be infuriating for you.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/05/2018 20:41

This is dreadful. I hope someone reports the midwife to the NMC. In no way is she insured or qualified to guide discussions about mental health. I mean, no one else there is but she is the only one in a regulated profession. The others are just quacks and she has clearly been brought in to add legitimacy to this.....thing

This is so awful that I am currently giggling in the bath - on the verge of mild nervous hysteria.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/05/2018 20:44

Mines is now coming up as £86. I've obviously been diagnosed with something since I last looked. Via Instagram. By a shyster. But not bad enough to warrant the extra 83p.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 20:46

Gobbo you need...the Lavender Flannel.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 20:46

Shall we all rock up to NB's event? Grin

MarshaBradyo · 16/05/2018 20:47

I'm retraining (slowly, between babies) to be a psychotherapist. It takes YEARS. And an MSc level qualification. And even though I'm some of the way through even I wouldn't feel qualified at all to lead a panel discussion on mental well-being.

I learn from mental health professionals, I have worked alongside them, I have received care from them myself. The one thing you learn, above all else, is to be cautious - to listen, to not leap to immediate conclusions or definite statements, to not set yourself up as an expert, to facilitate the clients/patient's own healing capabilities.

This 'self care day' reeks of cheap money-making quackery, and has very little to do with actual mental health.

jamoncrumpets · 16/05/2018 20:53

They can label it 'self care' day, or whatever they want. I see what they're doing there. But it's advertised through Mental Mutha. And makes reference to mental health.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 20:54

FlyingBird ta I've just got something in my eye.

Absolutely - insulting and irresponsible.

Shall I book the coach? We could do a MN flash mob. Maybe we could get MP over on our side and borrow some Lycra. F*ck it we'll promote Flex Appeal at the same time. That'll confuse everyone.
