It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

My little one is the same age as the twins and she can be very vocal at no photo, and also taking my phone off me if I'm not giving her attention. I can't imagine overriding this because it makes cash. Ive definitely seen an older child ask him why he has his phone out.
Maybe they kid themselves that it's amazing documentation for the future...

MarshaBradyo · 16/05/2018 18:50

Oh yes to persona. There’s a family on there where the littlest always wears a woolly bonnet in the pics. The only one out of the siblings. I thought does she always? . Inside with the heating on or even when it’s hot? Or is it just put on for the photos, will she develop a bonnet-twitch ‘yoohoo photo time’

nipersvest · 16/05/2018 18:52

These tiny children must also instinctively register a difference in their parents' IG/on-camera persona, and their switched-off selves, which must be unsettling. (I always remember being weirded out by my mum's telephone voice)

This instantly made me think of FOD and his 'instagram face'

800msprint · 16/05/2018 19:14

Woah Shock those comments on Instagram are ridiculous! Jeez. Completely. I don't know what to say! No wonder these threads have started up. Ferocious bear pit onto that poster who dared criticise a post. Honestly have no more words. Shocked. Rings of mean girls. Instagram is just not a place for a balanced discussion at all. Drives me barmy. Where's the IQ gone?!!

HolyMountain · 16/05/2018 19:18

I’ve been at work all day and only just caught up on the last thread and this shiny new one.

This caught my eye regarding the saucepans :

I did take them alongside a massive bag of the kids clothes to our charity shop but they couldn’t take the pans as they weren’t in good enough condition

Perhaps MoD needs to brush up on her critical thinking skills before admitting that ^.

Not good enough for her family but ....

Boredandtired · 16/05/2018 19:26

Can't believe that Mother of Daughters is happy to have all those comments on her post. It's also obvious she quite capable to answer herself and has, so there's no need for the bullying fangirls comments.
It is sad that someone who has called out mumsnet for bullying is encouraging it on her own page. It makes for an uncomfortable read. She should turn comments off.
I find her account so confusing, promoting herself as a mother of females and against bullying but has such mixed messages and won't even protect her children from their father's ego.
I'd really hoped that her coming on here would change view and perspective as Motherpukka gets such good responses from nearly everyone.

800msprint · 16/05/2018 19:31

The whole thing is bizarre. Bang on about bullying comments and insta removing bullying comments and being kind, then allowing all that to let rip on your feed. It's like there's no thought put into what is being posted and what the outcome might be.

Reboot · 16/05/2018 19:34

The only comments she seems happy to have on her page are the ones that agree with her because she seems to have blocked the poster mentioned above. Unless it was THE FILTER wot did it.

I agree it makes a very uncomfortable read and I always feel I end up with more questions than answers when she attempts to engage.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 19:35

Credit where it's due if she took the # off.

Reboot · 16/05/2018 19:37

Oh I stand corrected, seems the other poster blocked her (though I did she that she was invited to do so, which is one way of getting rid of people I suppose)

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 19:47

Reboot, me and the poster are part of a new club - the invited to block mod by mod club. Because unfollowing really doesn't do the trick anymore.

It's a shame the comments have gone because before I blocked mod I read them and they were awfully interesting about the all expenses paid Madagascar trip.

HolyMountain · 16/05/2018 19:47

What!! MoD bodyshamed KK and didn’t support the Insta sisterhoodGrin.

its5oclocksomewhere · 16/05/2018 19:48

you are capable of typing A F F I L I A T E L I N K.

I see these sometimes as #AF. IMO, that's shady, they know the average person doesn't know what that means.

The fact that she's still commenting amongst hundreds of nasty comments, indicates she's reading them and at no point has she asked it to stop or said she can deal with it herself. There are far more direct bitchy comments on there than a mumsnet thread and if just seems that even when she starts off trying to do good she ends up involved in online bitching and bullying which is completely contradictory to the be nice message she's supposed to be sending out.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 19:53

Oh HolyMountain it's been quite a day!

SpringSprangSprung · 16/05/2018 19:54

And that's just it Boredandtired - MoD doesn't actually engage with her followers. She posts something for clicks or likes and then sits back to watch the mob descend on anyone who doesn't fall into line. No point complaining about bullying and then allowing it on your own thread. I am still interested to hear @Anyalovesrose's thoughts on my comments that asking a 7 year old for permission to blast their photo all over the internet does not constitute responsible parenting in any way, shape or form, but I am not holding my breath........

Reboot · 16/05/2018 19:56

If you unblocked would the comments reappear? Because I think it's a shame that whole discussion disappeared. I also think that the new stories that have been posted about the whole saga misrepresent what happened. She wasn't called out on body shaming but on the hypocrisy of posting about being against internet bullying and then effectively doing the same thing with her hashtag and message to KK. Anyway that was my take on what happened.

Reboot · 16/05/2018 19:58

Oh I see she's still reading the thread. Maybe she will respond to your question about 7 year olds after all.

HolyMountain · 16/05/2018 19:59

So @anyalovesrose is a hypocrite happy to dish it out but can’t take it?

Who’d have thought that?

Boredandtired · 16/05/2018 20:05

As a mum of an 11 yr old I just don't get it. If my child saw some of those comments I'd be appalled. At the end of the day you could say that Laura's post was quite rude on Mother of Daughter's page, however you could equally say she was having her say and standing up for what she believes in (heavily promoted by many of these accounts) so basically she's voicing her own opinion. And that is followed by 167 comments of bitchy abuse. I'd like to see a comment addressing the overwhelming horribleness that has then influxed the post and made it anything but empowering. And it's exactly what she has complained about here, being singled out, referred back to and accused of things. I can imagine an 11 yr old saying, but that person had their opinion and now everyone is picking on them!
And actually on a lesser scale she does do what KK does. Didn't she have her children advertising razors? If KK had caught wind of a little IGer using toddlers to sell inappropriate products, then that would have been called bullying. So many lines are being crossed so many times. None of it sits well and I agree with springsprsngsprung there's nothing real about her engaging.

SpringSprangSprung · 16/05/2018 20:08

Very much doubt it! Just how do you hide behind a 7 year old's right to make complicated, adult decisions? Just been looking back over MoD 's recent posts (not a follower) - seems to me she is a bit rudderless these days. She wants to reinvent herself as something, but she is obviously not sure what yet, so she is flailing from one cause, race, to the next which today is KK. She has a huge platform, earned from doing something well in the past, but that won't move her forward. The one, tiny, almost forgettable, phrase that really pushed me from bemused to cross was her assertion that working one day a week as a midwife was selfless. What does she think the rest of us are? Does my 5 days a week in an inner city education centre make me selfless x 5? #selfaware

totallyliterally · 16/05/2018 20:09

I have just hit my limit with Instagram 'celebs' and unfollowed them all.

It has sadly turned into one big advert from some of the fashion and mummy bloggers.

And it is just a business.

Sadly even people who I've loved following today jumped in on the KK thing not realising that actually lots of what they sell isn't far off it. Unobtainable lifestyle.

And I've been so guilty of buying stuff as it looks nice on them, stuff I don't need. I fast forward through ads on tv but yet Instagram stories has become like an ad break and not even from the actual ads.

It's making people just want to buy things they don't need.

So I am back to following just friends, online friends, and kittens.

Actually feel sad about unfollowing some.

Oh and have also blocked people that give me rage as too often was popping to their accounts for a nosey, getting rage and thinking wtf am I doing.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/05/2018 20:10

Me. I have literally just been on looking at that badass person. I actually thought it was a spoof and then the horrible realisation dawned that it actually wasn't

The pedant in me really want to know how the very precise admission fee of £84 was calculated
