It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

Bored - 'she's pretty rough round the edges'. Sorry, just no. She's a working class girl from Dover and I think she speaks as such. And that's ok. It's an antidote to the public school voice of the majority of the mummies.

boomboom12 · 18/05/2018 17:16

I don’t know/follow her but as someone who was born & raised in S.London & stil lives here albeit in an area that’s now gentrified but with frequent youth stabbings I just think it’s a crass thing to say no matter your class.

boomboom12 · 18/05/2018 17:17

Anyway I’ve said my piece.

Boredandtired · 18/05/2018 17:18

It's just not funny pretending to be gang. And sadly all the 'youts' I know who use that speak are white.
It doesn't matter whether it's a joke, she has a lot of followers and sees herself as an influencer. It's not appropriate.
It's not ok for KK or Tori Spelling to promote appetite suppressant lollipops, it's not ok for her to joke about cutting people on behalf of a fellow IGer.

@neverwas to be honest like I said the short period I followed and stories I saw she did seem rough round the edges. I genuinely didn't see that as an insult. I'm definitely working class background myself. Doesn't mean you aren't careful with how you conduct yourself. Perhaps that was a poor choice of words from me, but I meant the sarky passive aggressive bitching I've seen from her and was not not suggesting she wasn't middle class enough to follow.

jamoncrumpets · 18/05/2018 17:24

There's Dover working class and there's gangland London working class, and they're VERY different. But I can't really be arsed to argue the toss about that. It was a dumb thing to say wherever you come from.

TheLadyhasarrived · 18/05/2018 17:24

When I said I was shocked I meant as far as saying something like that if you are setting your family up as brand ambassadors, people were saying that her partner was becoming more involved and wondering if that was to increase brand appeal. I don’t follow SV closely because she does say things I feel a bit uncomfortable with sometimes.

Boredandtired · 18/05/2018 17:25

@neverwas it was a poor choice of words. I'm knackered. I really don't like that underlying bitchiness, sets me off guard. I'll request that's removed as it sounds snooty which wasn't the intent.

Moonkissedlegs · 18/05/2018 17:26

Also given that CB is black and is all about black empowerment, it’s questionable to support her by making a statement that is stereotypically regarded as something black gang members say when they feel they’re being dissed.

Yes, I think this is what made me quite Hmm about it actually.

Wildlingofthewest · 18/05/2018 17:26

But SV is privileged- her husband is a successful Olympic athlete. They are wealthly. His net worth was estimated at around the £2million mark last year (sponsorships/endorsements/media appearances etc)

NeverWas · 18/05/2018 17:26

Sorry Bored I was a bit trigger finger there with my response. I get what you're saying.

And you're all right. She shouldn't have said it.

Confusssed · 18/05/2018 17:28

Who is SV please?

Boredandtired · 18/05/2018 17:29

I don't follow based on how people talk or what they do, it's how they come across. I'm quite wary of confrontation and being intimidated so if I get that vibe I don't follow.

Wildlingofthewest · 18/05/2018 17:30

SV = Susy Verrill (Greg Rutherford’s wife)

Boredandtired · 18/05/2018 17:30

@neverwas it's good to have comments picked up on though as they can read differently to the intent so I'm glad you pointed it out.

jamoncrumpets · 18/05/2018 17:35

Wilding - it's Susie and they're not married

Sorry again BoredandTired. I overreacted.

Jam - I am also S London and am aware of the distinction between working class Dover and London, as I think most people would be.

Like I said upthread, in the same story SV referred to women as 'slam pieces'. She certainly needs to check her language.

sparklefluff · 18/05/2018 17:49

It's been deleted.

I would hope this is because either she saw it as inappropriate, or Candice did not appreciate being tagged in a subject matter which she has discussed so passionately on many occasions.

Or maybe it was the reporting of it.

I hope it was the former because I feel more comfortable knowing a moral compass exists.

NeverWas · 18/05/2018 17:50

Is it an example of white privilege or just of someone being a dick?

Wildlingofthewest · 18/05/2018 17:51

SV says things for shock value - to generate traffic to her page. She knows exactly what she’s saying and the reaction it will provoke.
Don’t rise to it, or you can bet she will do a “why I hate mumsnet” instastory.... yawn

It’s not been deleted- it’s still up on her insta story.....

EatMyShoes · 18/05/2018 17:54

I missed the slam pieces bit but to be honest I probably wouldn't even have registered what she was talking about as it's not even in my lexicon. Imagine if Greg said it?! I don't think he would, as he's probably had media training.
