Influencer ethics on Instagram 2

It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

Way upthread @JellyDots had a great post that really resonated with me. I'll have to go back and find it!

(I've read all of the threads and only just posting)

There is so much MH talk on Instagram at the moment, I think I need to take some time to go through mine and see who I need to unfollow. I follow one instamum who is a MH professional...but I'm not sure if it's healthy for me to follow her. Posts about her MH set to a gorgeous insta photo still make me feel bad, not along in solidarity.

See, that's when you really should step away a bit. If they make you feel bad, why would you follow?

MadameGrizzly · 17/05/2018 19:51

FlyingBird that was your quote about Alfie Evans I highlighted.

Do you see the parallels between, say, FOD and Tom Evans, courting publicity and having a large number of blinkered followers? Or am I complexly off base?!

Sorry MadameGrizzly wasn't intended to be a snipe at you. I just don't have any interest in their marriage or of any otver IGer. I definitely don't think they should be sharing their disagreements in public with strangers. I think it is really disrespectful to their partner.

But maybe these people just have less respect for their children, parents etc. than the people I know IRL.

MadameGrizzly · 17/05/2018 19:53

Can it be banter AND good mental health advice? 😆

At this stage, Lavender Flannel requires its own Instagram account!

No Cady I definitely do not follow him!

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 19:58

At what point is discussion bitching? I've disagreed with finding someone on IG particularly attractive, that's not bitching, I genuinely don't see that as bitching. I don't see many of these kids as beautiful either, they are just cute kids who on the whole will grow into the same awkward teens we all have, very few classic 'beauties' as such. That's not derogatory, they are not child models they are on the whole ordinary kids.
I'm unsure why the outrageous bitching on Instagram is ok but discussion here is out of order.
Mother of Daughters is actually a lovely looking woman who dresses generally really well for her lovely figure but if she wants people to stop talking about them she needs to moderate what she shares and decide with her husband what is appropriate. It does feel like certain posters just want to stir things up.

garfunkelthecat · 17/05/2018 20:00

Just like fod is a "management consultant" - my @rse he is.
They just have to be relatable.

MadameGrizzly · 17/05/2018 20:01

Certain posters reverted to the dog with a bone, one liner posting style rather quickly. Hmm

He is garfunkel Confused

HolyMountain · 17/05/2018 20:03

I see Cady’s back, which IGer are you?

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 20:04

They are releatable. They are just an ordinary couple with normal jobs with 4 kids.

HolyMountain · 17/05/2018 20:04

......or..who do you represent ?

It’s just odd how you pop up on these threads Grin.

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 20:04

Relatable Blush

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 20:05

Really Cady doesn't represent anyone.

Babaloo88 · 17/05/2018 20:08

oh Gosh! Please let’s not start this she only works one day a week discussion. One day a week as a nurse/midwife is enough to send any into early retirement! Only joking! I have a feeling that she is being very savvy. She knows that this instafame won’t last long. So she is working the minimal hours needed to keep up her nmc pin. Which is a very wise decision!

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 20:11

Cb and StyleMesunday have effectively told people to shut the f*ck up today. Be positive or be quiet.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 20:11

It is a good discussion, which I'm interested in, which is why I'm on the thread. It doesn't half quickly start to slide into personal bitches and digs quickly though, which is a shame as when there's actual points being brought up, it's an important discussion to have.

PavlovaPrincess · 17/05/2018 20:20

Why does MN have to be held to a higher standard than IG? Hmm I think FB's Lavender Flannel joke advice was quite tame, tbh.

Not only that, but the pile on of the poster on MOD's feed last night because she dared to question MOd was horrendous and gives lie to the 'be kind' message that she spouts. If MOD really believed that, she would have calmly answered her or ignored instead of whipping up her followers, DMing Laura and then sitting back and watching all her followers attack her.

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 20:24

Cady I was wondering what IGers do you follow? I have seen you across a few threads now and I don't recall you ever mentioning a single one. Do you have IG?

I think it's great you feel the need to defend them, but do you know who you are defending?

Today 17:18 CadyHeron

Neverwas - I wouldn't say FOD is a novelty, there's loads of Dads out there with similar USP of hapless dad/ hands on dad/parenting etc on social media. It's just he's the one who MNers on these threads seem to enjoy analyse and comment on.

@cadyheron you posted this, but haven't given us the heads up on any? Bit confused, was it just for arguments sake? I was genuinely interested.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 20:34

Neverwas - who do I follow? Quite a few.
Ones that crop up here a lot...
FOD
Natasha bailie
Followed MOD for a bit but not really my "cup of tea" so to speak so unfollowed.
