It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

I wouldn't have thought the fact people go on maternity leave would be any reason to imply they were less experienced or hands on than those who don't, that's a bizarre comment. Thousands of women take maternity leave every year, doesn't mean they're any less as a result.^

What a weird thing to say. Of course they are less experienced. That is a matter of fact.

I am 13 years PQE as a lawyer but have had 3 lots of mat leave. I obviously have less experience than a colleague who has had no extended leave of absence. I'm at the stage that I have enough experience that those years out don't really matter but if I was 5 years PQE minus 3 years of may leave it would impact on my professional skills and experience

Yes MOD made a huge deal of having to work the Bank Holiday Monday didn't she? Its like 'love, in the last few months you have been to Disney World, St Lucia, you are about to go to Spain and you have also been on a couple of weekend breaks: sympathies are limited!'

SpringSprangSprung · 17/05/2018 19:20

MoD is at a bit of a crossroads now. She built her following as a midwife which seems less relatable now that she only works one day a week. (My sil, who has selflessly worked fulltime as an nhs midwife for 32 years, tells me that you have to keep working to keep your licence which is presumably why she makes the London trek weekly.) She has a following similar to The Times but where to take them now? FoD, however, surely knows he is racing against the clock with the twins getting older and is happy just to cash in on them while he can. I don't have any thoughts on how he looks - but his arched eye expression looks like he has modelled himself on Nick Knowles..... for me, that is not a good thing Hmm

Hence the whole argument at the centre of the Alfie Evans case- parental responsibility v best interests of the child. The latter outweighs the former.

A few pages back but an interesting observation. At the core of the Alfie Evans media storm was the question of whose rights take priority? The parents' or the child's? And it was made abundantly clear that in the UK the child's rights, framed as the child's best interests, will always take precedence.

However, Alfie Evans also raised raised questions about a child's ultimate right to privacy and rabid, unquestioning devotion from followers.

Although Instagram accounts such as the ODs, SJ, CT, CA, DLAM, plus all the smaller ones trying to work their way to the top of the pile, wouldn't necessarily see any similarities between their family's online social media presence and Alfie Evan's family's online social media presence, I see many parallels.

They may be technically less experienced as in they haven't had as much hands on work, but why does that make what they do any "less?" that's how it comes across. Can't you see how this kind of speculation on "keeping the haterz happy by doing token midwifery" or "less experienced as goes off on maternity leave" is less discussion and more personal attack level? There's no wonder they feel under attack with some of this shit, it must be anxiety inducing.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 19:27

The media storm from the Alfie Evans case was awful. I can see where you're coming from with that angle though. Interesting thought.

@neverwas glad it's not just me with the just no to the crush! @mrhappilyeverafter is quite fit. Even dancing. They actually are an amazingly attractive family.

MadameGrizzly · 17/05/2018 19:30

You know, NeverWas, he was insane the week MOD was away. Look at the way he is looking at himself in the phone. How many takes did he do to perfect his dad dancing instastory?

Do you think MOD spends a lot of her time reigning him in? That would be an exhausting and intrusive way to live for everyone in the household.

I find FOD’s feed beyond cringeworthy. The stupid faces he pulls in all his photos. And I think what he’s doing with his twins is a gross, gross invasion of privacy and infringement of their rights.

Posting photos of your kid taking a shit and naked on the trampoline. For fucks sake, does the man have no shame.

I get they justify it to themselves by saying the money and freebies they get allow them to provide a better quality of life for sale d twins.

Personally I’d find a way of earning money that doesn’t involve plastering social media with very personal and constant photos of my kids that ANYONE can see.

wishiwassizeeight · 17/05/2018 19:31

Said not sale d!

PavlovaPrincess · 17/05/2018 19:32

Sorry haven't caught up on the thread yet but just seen that photo of FOD from when he did his dad dance.

My eyes, MY EYES!! Confused

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 19:33

@cadyheron by that same rule though aren't they responsible for what they choose to share? If you are going to come on threads saying that your work as a midwife is selfless and open yourself up, are you not responsible for the discussion that then takes place? They are constantly feeding this thread. It's an utterly bizarre cycle. If you don't share personal thoughts and information surely you won't feel personally attacked.

I've never seen other accounts make such inflammatory comments and posts and therefore they don't get the attention.

WishIWas. You find him cringy. Do you follow him? If so, why?

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 19:37

Lavender flannel jibe. Wow. Then the weirdos think this thread is full on bitch/bully mode. Where would they get that idea from?! Confused Hmm

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 19:40

FlyingBird Grin

Cadyheron 'anxiety inducing' oh please.

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 19:42

I honestly don't give a sh*t about their marriage and don't intend to speculate on it.

MadameGrizzly · 17/05/2018 19:42

Lavender flannel is banter, a pun, an in joke. I'm fairly certain the instamummies have in jokes, quite possibly about the posters on these threads.

I posted on the last thread about how relatibility can work for or against celebs (perhaps I was talking shite). Mod comes up a lot on these threads as opposed to some of the other more famous in the real world instamums, why is that? Is it because her job made he so relatable & now her lifestyle has changed (caveat I don’t know if it has or not)?

I wasn't speculating on their marriage, more the toll on families of having an Instagram personality in the household.

Everything must be 'documented' and 'curated'. And everyone has different lines in the sand. That has to lead to tensions.

OP posts:
PavlovaPrincess · 17/05/2018 19:46

I think Cady could do with a lavender flannel too.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 19:48

Sorry, forgot for a moment that it's never bitchiness or whatever if it's you (general you) doing it and not someone else - then it's "where's your sense of humour, it's banter, innit!" Hmm
