My son has a music exam near Windsor on Sat. We will have to leave very early and go back roads to avoid wedding traffic.
Just wondered if anyone else has the Royal wedding negatively affecting their normal life.
BTW, this is light hearted. It's not my biggest issue but is an extra concern.

I had no idea that there was a royal wedding until I read this thread.

Who is getting married?

PortiaCastis · 15/05/2018 11:41

The nasty bitchiness about the wedding makes me angry but other than that I'll be working on Saturday so I don't care

RoadToRivendell · 15/05/2018 11:42

Congratulations, Pokemon

SquishySquirmy · 15/05/2018 11:44

I don't give much of a shit about royal weddings normally.

But this particular one is really highlighting the mysogeny, hypocrisy, and thinly veiled racism of the tabloids (and some mumsnetters).

All the shitty, lazy headlines having a dig at MM for her guestlist etc - because as everyone knows such things are always the bride's fault and have nothing to do with the groom!

SquishySquirmy · 15/05/2018 11:48

CannonFodder Flowers
Hope you're ok. Look after yourself.

e1y1 · 15/05/2018 11:54

It really isn’t.

Of course, I wish them all the best and a lifetime of happiness (as I would anyone) but other than that nothing affecting.

I genuinely do not even know the actual date of it.

Dontsweathesmallstuff · 15/05/2018 12:04

Only in that i thought it might be a good day to take the kids out somewhere as maybe places would be quieter than usual. Momentarily though Oooo we could go to Legoland, before my brain woke up and reminded me that while it might be quieter than usual, actually getting there might be a problem Grin

DH has to go to a meeting near Windsor later this week and needs to stay overnight. The closest hotel he can get is on Slough trading estate and is costing us a FLIPPING FORTUNE compared to what it would usually cost.

LongtimeLurkerNowPokemonHunter · 15/05/2018 12:08

CF it wasn't community day when we booked 😂 I may have my phone in the car, to get some!

FluctuatNecMergitur · 15/05/2018 12:10

Calling it first - I reckon MM is going to back out on the morning.

MrsJayy · 15/05/2018 12:16

Oo we could go to Lego land OR maybe not Grin

GlitterGlue · 15/05/2018 12:18

Can’t say I’ve noticed it’s had any effect.

The80sweregreat · 15/05/2018 12:54

Fluctuat, i must admit i do keep on wondering if she will go through with it or it will be called off for some reason? not sure why and the logistics of that happening would be huge of course - her family have meddled from the start and now all this other stuff with her dad etc.

frankie001 · 15/05/2018 13:02

I’m working incenteal London. Won’t affect or effect me!

elliejjtiny · 15/05/2018 13:12

My 3 primary age dc are meant to be going to school wearing red, white and blue on friday. Dc3 is wearing the blue jeans and red/white striped t-shirt that I bought for dc1 to wear for the queen's diamond jubilee so that's good timing. I'll probably watch bits of it as I love a good wedding although I'll no doubt be moaned at to change to CBeebies or cbbc

AntipodeanOpalEye · 15/05/2018 13:13

Cluttering up my news feeds with the Harkels rather than the Kardtrashians. So same dross different flavour.

pigmcpigface · 15/05/2018 13:15

"the Harkels"

Farkles, surely? Grin

BradleyPooper · 15/05/2018 13:16

Hosting a royal wedding fundraiser for 200 with royal bingo, trivia etc. Can safely say that the Royal Wedding has added hours and hours of work to my life (and I live in the USA so nowhere near Windsor). However, it will raise $$$$ for our educational charity so it's all good.

CannonFodder · 15/05/2018 13:18

Thanks [Squishy]. Smile. These days it usually passes me by or with a blip. I’ll be fine it just the date has brought back a lot of memories 😘

MyBreadIsEggy · 15/05/2018 13:19

My neighbours think I’m an asshole because we aren’t attending the neighbourhood block party to celebrate the royal wedding as it is my idea of hell Confused
That’s pretty much the only way it’s affecting me!

SweetCheeks1980 · 15/05/2018 13:21

I'm only interested to see if Harry's dad, Tim Hewitt, will be invited...

PortiaCastis · 15/05/2018 13:25

Oh God the speculation is verging on the ridiculous now

moita · 15/05/2018 13:27

My local's showing it and asking people to dress as 'posh' as possible Hmm

CanIBuffalo · 15/05/2018 13:35

It'll affect me. I saw nothing of the last one because I was trying to keep everyone else in the family happy by doing aa day trip that fed their interests not mine. I really wanted to see it though but I shut up about it and cracked on.
And much good that attitude did me in the long run.

This time I'm watching it - hopefully with my DSister and fucksticks to the lot of them.

So I'll be happy that I've learned to prioritise my own stuff sometimes and sad thinking back to how miserable things were before.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 15/05/2018 13:44

I’m with another Poster, it’s Pokemon Community Day so I’m hoping town will be dead so I don’t have to dodge too many people as I flounce about trying to get as many Charmanders as I can. Emo!Charizard will be mine:o
