...to feel uncomfortable showering here *pic*

Gym is a while from my house and I go in the morning before work. No time to head home and shower so have to shower there. They've refurbished and taken away the full length solid doors I loved so much and replaced with these which are quite transparent. You can see a lot when people are showering and I feel extremely uncomfortable using them. I am trying to lose weight and don't like my silhouette, and don't like the fact that someone can see me in the shower. AIBU to want the old doors back or is this just me and my self esteem getting in the way? Please no nasty comments, just wondered if it's a reasonable concern.

Do people seriously empty their mooncups in the shower at the gym? That is quite unpleasant.

No one’s saying to stfu, it just surprises me how terrified British women are of showing their bodies.
It’s really sad and I wish people didn’t feel like that

Or they just don’t want to show their bodies to anyone but their partner?

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 14/05/2018 23:14

Not the vibe I’m getting.

Donthugmeimscared · 14/05/2018 23:19

Maybe I'm odd but I have never showered in front of my children so no chance in front of strangers. I had a very strict upbringing that even as babies it was seen indecent to be naked and even sharing a room with my sibling until my late teens never once did we see each other undressed. I feel physically sick at the thought of using them and as much as I love going to the gym I wouldn't go near the place if the doors were like that. I know I'm probably weird but it's just who I am.

mump0ints · 14/05/2018 23:21

Came on to say drape the towel. On the outside.

Charolais · 14/05/2018 23:23

Here in the U.S there was a big push during Obama’s last year in office to have gender neutral bathrooms/locker rooms/changing rooms/showers, to appease the mentally ill. Imagine if men, any men, were also using that facility!

liz70 · 14/05/2018 23:24

Take a couple of chunky plastic clothes pegs and peg a big beach towel to the top of the shower door, to hang outside, obviously. I'm probably the 700th person to suggest this, I know

DrWhy · 14/05/2018 23:30

Wren and RatRat at least 2 of these hotels, the hotel be I have to stay in for work in NL doesn’t even have a curtain you can pull across! It’s theoretically a double room and you occasionally see people loitering in the corridor when their partner has presumably thrown them out so they can use the loo! It’s 90% business travellers on their own though so less awful.

EdWinchester · 14/05/2018 23:35

We stayed in a hotel in Barcelona recently where the shower was separated from the room by only a clear screen.

So lying in bed, I could enjoy dh washing his arse 🤔

PositivelyPERF · 14/05/2018 23:41

Take a couple of suction cups that have hooks and sew a couple of loops on a light fibre towel. Stick the hooks on the door and hang the towel on, so you have an shower ‘curtain’. You do that on the tiles of an open shower cubicle too. Make sure your legs and head can be seen so you’re not suspected of doing something untoward.

PerspicaciaTick · 14/05/2018 23:47

Matalan have some awesome clips which you could use for clipping your towel to the top of the door so it stays dry outside the shower but won't slip.

clairedelalune · 14/05/2018 23:54

Why, oh why, would someone design such a door for a public shower and someone else make the decision to buy them for said public shower? I'm with everyone else who said about dealing a large towel.

liz70 · 15/05/2018 07:26

"Matalan have some awesome clips which you could use for clipping your towel to the top of the door so it stays dry outside the shower but won't slip."

Now they are seriously cute. even if clothes pegs are much cheaper

bruffin · 15/05/2018 08:13
