Email (screenshot attached) received yesterday from primary school. Child confirms that this actually occurred on Friday (single use containers and all). AIBU to want an explanation from school because I’ve no idea how this is in any way beneficial to the children. Notwithstanding childhood obesity and plastic pollution issues.

Surely they could have been served in paper wraps like traditional chippy tea?

SimonBridges · 12/05/2018 14:22

The use of disposable products is dreadful.
Our school has done that a couple of times when they had a problem with the water supply or the dishwasher was broken but once a week is a dreadful waste.

SneakyGremlins · 12/05/2018 14:22

Six year old me would be thrilled Grin

Not sure now about the plastic though, but couldn't get too worked up over the food.

Returnofthesmileybar · 12/05/2018 14:22

Wtf??? That's madness

Pengggwn · 12/05/2018 14:23

The marketing is definitely awry. But the meals themselves? Not an issue once a week.

Coolaschmoola · 12/05/2018 14:24

They'll all be ovened and crumb coats will be wholemeal too.

MipMipMip · 12/05/2018 14:24

Great for vegetarians that.Hmm

DS1 school do a fast food Friday, it's basically a choice of burger and chips. I don't have an issue with it. It's only one meal out of 21 he has a week.

SneakyGremlins · 12/05/2018 14:27

Mip Erm, fish?

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 12/05/2018 14:27

What are the kids who don't eat meat supposed to eat?

MongerTruffle · 12/05/2018 14:28

Erm, fish?
Vegetarians don't eat fish. Pescatarians eat fish.

Yorkshirebetty · 12/05/2018 14:29

It's not true.

noblegiraffe · 12/05/2018 14:30

Fast food establishments don’t use polystyrene? Confused

Mip Erm, fish?

say what now?

Medianoche · 12/05/2018 14:31

Ours does this once a year and I’m fine with it, but I’d be very unhappy about it happening every week.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 12/05/2018 14:31

LOL. 0.5/10 for effort OP.

Bishybarnybee · 12/05/2018 14:31

I find this literally impossible to believe. No vegetables? Is this a UK state school?

ICantCopeAnymore · 12/05/2018 14:31

Our county's schools have chip day on a Friday.

I'd be appalled at the single use polystyrene though. I'm surprised the teachers haven't spoken up, because I certainly would have.

NSEA · 12/05/2018 14:34

@sneakygremlins massive faux pas there.

I agree food is fine I don’t think this is worth worrying about

BettyPitts · 12/05/2018 14:35

Did everyone miss Mips Hmm

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 12/05/2018 14:35

My school does Fish Fridays. It is the only day that chips are available (oven cooked) and there is always a vegetarian option too....yesterday was a delicious roasted vegetable flan (I often have a school dinner).

So... the menu wouldn’t bother me but the single use containers would make me very angry 😡 that is very wrong.

fourandnomore · 12/05/2018 14:36

Fish have faces.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 12/05/2018 14:40

Just because they aren’t liste. Doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Our menu flyers for Friday just say “Fish Friday” BUT it doesn’t mention the jacket potato option, the salad bar, the veg options (last week I had peas and sweet corn, yesterday I had veggie stuff anyway), fresh fruit and yogurt, as these are all available every day anyway.

SneakyGremlins · 12/05/2018 14:41

I apologise! Blush

All the "vegetarians" I know (about 5/6) eat fish too.
