Pyjamas In Hotels

There was a thread recently discussing people wearing pjs in public. We just got back to our hotel and the lift stopped at the floor with the bar, the doors opened and a woman got in wearing pyjamas and slippers and carrying a bottle of wine. She seemed a bit surprised to see us in the lift and we all got off at the same floor. I wouldn’t be brave enough to go to the bar in a hotel dressed like that, but I had to admire her chutzpah. Aibu to think folk should at least throw on some clothes before appearing in public?

Ah well that's where you are showing your ignorance Rose because I can assure you you are wrong.

RoseWhiteTips · 14/05/2018 10:46

Hmmmmmmm

Au contraire.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 14/05/2018 10:46

Wet hair in a dining room suggests the owner if the hair is lazy. Again, it is inappropriate.

Grin More likely in my case it would be because I'd been on a 10 mile run before everyone was awake, had a quick shower and scooted down to breakfast before it closed. Wet hair, tied back. I do so much sport ie NOT lazy that I sometimes wash my hair twice a day. Buggered if I'm going to use MORE time drying it.

The people whose opinion I value (my friends and family) will know my wet hair is due to absolutely the opposite of being lazy.

longestlurkerever · 14/05/2018 10:48

What is this "laziness"? I have no interest in making unnecessary work for myself or any concern about someone random on the internet making wild extrapolations about my work ethic from the dryness or otherwise of my hair. I don't think that if you plotted it on a graph you'd find any correlation between this stuff and actual productivity,if productivity is a moral issue at all. You could look into it, if you like unnecessary chores so much.

MrsPreston11 · 14/05/2018 10:49

No I couldn't do it.

I also can't stand people wandering around in robes and hotel slippers to and from the pool though.

I'm less judgy when it's a spa hotel but I still wouldn't like to do it myself.

RoseWhiteTips · 14/05/2018 10:51

That’s because you have standards,MrsPreston11...

RoseWhiteTips · 14/05/2018 10:52

Gym, run, whatever. It looks sloppy.

longestlurkerever · 14/05/2018 10:56

I think the point is that the owner of the hair doesn't care if they look sloppy, and since you are not in a position of authority over them you have no right to care either. That's why I find the school run threads so offensive. People appointing themselves as in a position of authority over other adults because of their social standing and thereby passing judgment on the basis of nothing but their own preference/prejudice. It's sickening.

Athena18 · 14/05/2018 10:58

Don’t think one should be too critical of someone being out in public with wet hair. She may have just been to the gym or might be using treatment for head lice.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 14/05/2018 11:02

Ah well Rose, I'm not bothered what you think about me, so we're all good.

OvergroundWomblingFree · 14/05/2018 11:12

I don't really understand why anyone is worried about the "standard" of physical appearance in the general population...

What harm does standards slipping even do?

It doesn't affect our moral standards does it?!

It's not like pj wearing or wet hair are gateway crimes to a life of terrorising our fellow humans!

JacquesHammer · 14/05/2018 11:12

To be honest given Hyacinth Bucket thinks it shows an awful lack of standards I'm considering adding wet hair into the mix next week Grin

OvergroundWomblingFree · 14/05/2018 11:14

@JacquesHammer heck I may do it for the school run

The afternoon one

JacquesHammer · 14/05/2018 11:15

@OvergroundWomblingFree I should. Definitely. Slip those standards!

ralfeesmum · 14/05/2018 11:17

Where they snazzy cream satin pyjamas, CowesTwo, or everyday faded wincyette, all rumpled with Ribena stains on 'em?

Because it DOES make a difference.......

MorganKitten · 14/05/2018 12:51

I've worn a onesie around my hotel in Las Vegas, no one cared!

Lethaldrizzle · 14/05/2018 12:56

Wow never knew wet hair was a thing! I never use a hair dryer as like to dry my hair naturally. So after swimming should I stand in the changing rooms using the hairdryer till all the swanky moistness is gone ?!

Realistica · 14/05/2018 13:03

Seems like many people concern themselves far too much with the appearance of others.

I'm sure those same people will be on other threads ranting about fat shaming and unattainable beauty standards, etc.

kateandme · 14/05/2018 13:10

good on her.i did it as a kid and loved it.walking the corridors to fmailies room in my pjs was the best feeling ever haha!

kateandme · 14/05/2018 13:13

there are some really overly judgmental people in the world and ok we are all different and allowed opinions but some are almost just nastily wrong!

freezerfoodyum · 14/05/2018 13:38

I do the nursery run with wet hair every morning and I could give no fucks whatsoever.

RoadToRivendell · 14/05/2018 13:47

Wet hair in a dining room suggests the owner if the hair is lazy. Again, it is inappropriate.

I'd look favourably upon wet hair at breakfast, as I associate it with running as noted above (I admire runners).

Mind you, we had a black tie wedding and one of our guests turned up with wet hair. I was not pleased that it made its way into an otherwise great photo.

Realistica · 14/05/2018 13:52

"wet hair in a dining room is inappropriate"

😂Christ, don't you have anything better to worry about?

Clairaloulou · 14/05/2018 15:28

For all those judgey people saying it’s lazy and slovenly etc, I’d just like to say this:

Yes, I’d say a lot of people who wear pjs out shopping etc are lazy. And I’d never do that. But, there are people like this who wear them briefly. Who wear them to drop their kids off at school etc. Please don’t brand them all lazy. I am such a person. I wear my pjs to drop my son off. I regularly go out with wet hair. My house is often a mess. To the untrained eye I look well. But I have heart failure, chronic kidney disease from the meds, fibromyalgia and arthritis. I can only do so much at once. I’d rather get my son to school on time than get myself dressed (which often takes 15 mins and I’m worn out after). I’d rather go out clean than not (I can’t hold the dryer up to do my hair).

My comment is off topic I know, but I just wanted to highlight how little judgements like that affect a person like me. We’re not all perfect. At least she was dressed. That’s the important thing, surely?

Tessliketrees · 14/05/2018 19:59

@Clairaloulou

Yes, I’d say a lot of people who wear pjs out shopping etc are lazy

Nice that you are willing to pass judgement while pleading for people not to judge you.

Do you not even see the problem with what you are saying? You can either judge all or none.

Objectively there is nothing at all wrong with wearing pyjamas or having wet hair. People judge anyway. They can either realise this is a problem in their own head and change or they can come up with increasingly desperate ways to justify their own wankiness.

They don't give a shit about the extenuating circumstances of the person is who they are judging.
