People who park over the lines in a car park...

... deliberately, so that no one can use the space next to them, should be fined as if they were parked without a ticket Angry

If your car is that fucking precious, get a fucking cab!

@blaaake

Well she was, which was my point. We nearly missed a very important appointment for a disabled, scared elderly lady because of the way she'd parked.

caoraich · 11/05/2018 11:09

I used to drive a combination of a very old Mini and a Ford Luton van.

I admit I enjoyed trolling the 2 space parkers in the Mini as I could usually squeeze up next to them in the half space they'd left.

I was also always able to park the van in a normal space no bother at all - you just need to pick a side to be closer to and get your passengers to get out/back in first or get them to slip over the driver side. I quite enjoyed the challenge of getting it into a tight space, it's like a wee logic problem. Then again I also love Tetris Grin

I sometimes drive my MIL's Q7 now and neither of us have had any issues - there's plenty of space either side of it and it's never been dinged! I do think there should be more focus on parking in the driving test - "I can't park!" Isn't really an excuse. No one would get away with "I can't do roundabouts/traffic lights/ etc"!

itstimeforanamechange · 11/05/2018 11:34

If someone takes up two spaces they should be fined in my view. Some car parks do.

If your car is too big to fit, get a smaller (narrower) one. Most people are only driving huge bully cars as a status symbol anyway.

SimonBridges · 11/05/2018 12:58

But don't let the facts get in the way of your jealousy

I couldn’t be less jealous of your car. I could go and buy one cash tomorrow if I wanted, but I don’t.

And, darling, don’t let facts get in your way.

Hmm
SimonBridges · 11/05/2018 13:02

Anyway blaaaake, I posted the size for an a Q7 in response to this post, I have an Audi Q7, it's massive... not your precious car.
Just like you can’t occupy twice your space in a car park because you think you are more important not everything is about you.

Lethaldrizzle · 11/05/2018 13:04

I can't help it but I do judge people who drive big fat cars. Shoot me now

MrsWembley · 11/05/2018 15:25

blaake, again with the distortion of facts** - wing mirrors don't count!!!

A friend used to have one and I don't remember her having to take up two spaces. But then again, she's kind and considerate (and an excellent driver)...

Members of the Stevie Wonder School of Motoring is what I call them. In the NW people were booked for it, quite rightly too but when we moved here to Norfolk it seemed to be the norm, not so much parked as abandoned.
One woman once yelled at me because she was having difficulty getting into her car because of mine. As I pointed out, I was perfectly parked between the two lines, she was 'parked' at a 30 degree angle.

blaaake · 11/05/2018 17:23

You quoted the height, love @SimonBridges. And wing mirrors don't count? Do they disappear when parking then?

blaaake · 11/05/2018 17:26

And actually it's not often that I do it as Tesco's etc have made their parking spaces bigger, and I park in p&c when available. But I'm not going to apologise or change my actions in double parking so that I can get out of my car. Again, focus your anger on standard parking spaces not having increased since the 70's, when all cars have increased in size due to safety regulations etc.

Bojangles33 · 11/05/2018 17:36

Saw a Range Rover do this recently - came back to discover a tiny little Lupo had squeezed into one of the half spaces at the side of it 😂 sheer brilliance

Sparklesocks · 11/05/2018 17:37

Ahh I have a compact little Peugeot so I can nip into little spaces, but yes it’s so frustrating when cars take up multiple spaces or are just parked carelessly - particularly when the car park is full!

I was at Tesco this afternoon and a car has somehow parked zig zagged in a bay, so the front of the car was in the bay to its left and the back of the car was in the one on its left - and they are pretty big bays! Ridic

TopBitchoftheWitches · 11/05/2018 17:50

What might solve a lot of this is, if parents didn't allow their kids to swing their doors open into other peoples cars.

I have offered to give people a go of parking my car!

SimonBridges · 11/05/2018 18:44

Perhaps if you can’t park it then you shouldn’t drive it.

Kelsoooo · 11/05/2018 19:11

1/ I’ve just spent ages googling widths of cars, me and DH always argue about who should park where on our drive, turns out it doesn’t matter, our cars are the same width.

2/ it’s horrible when you realise you’ve parked badly, because the cars next to you have, but when they return they’ve disappeared so you look like a twat.

3/ Morrisons in Malton is an awful car park, it’s on a hill and the bays are seriously narrow; as are the lanes,

4/ I only drive an SUV because my first one was a gift, from my in laws who had it to tow a caravan. And my current one is a company vehicle,

blaaake · 11/05/2018 19:12

@SimonBridges I can park it, I never said I couldn't. I said that if I parked in a standard bay I wouldn't be able to get out.

blaaake · 11/05/2018 19:12

Added to that the number of twats who will open their car door onto my car and cause £1000's worth of damage. Fuck that.

caoraich · 11/05/2018 19:17

Indeed, Simon

But I'm not going to apologise or change my actions in double parking so that I can get out of my car - so Blake can you explain why I (not a twiglet) can easily park and get out of a Q7 in an unchanged-since-the-70s car park, without taking up 2 spaces? As can my 75 year old MIL plus her zimmer frame...
Seriously, just get a smaller car.

blaaake · 11/05/2018 19:25

I'd love to see you attempt that in some of the ones round here with two equally sized cars either side. Seriously, you mustn't own a q7 as everybody I've spoken to who has one has agreed they're a nightmare in car parks. There's been articles about it.

caoraich · 11/05/2018 19:30

I don't, said 75yo MIL does, as per my post above.

Go on, where's "around here" then? I'm used to driving in rural Scotland where many cars are proper 4x4s and take up the majority of the space, with car parks unchanged since god knows when. You just need to park closer to the other car's passenger door. And practice, ideally in something bigger like a van.

SimonBridges · 11/05/2018 19:52

Stop making excuses for parking like a selfish twat.
