People who park over the lines in a car park...

... deliberately, so that no one can use the space next to them, should be fined as if they were parked without a ticket Angry

If your car is that fucking precious, get a fucking cab!

@MrsWembley and ? Still quite difficult to get in a space with cars parked either side, and impossible to get out !

netflixandpill · 09/05/2018 20:04

i drive an audi q7 and park across two spaces because
a: im shit at parking
b: in 11 years of parenting and four children later i am yet to manage to get a parenting space.
if im in non paying car park like asda etc i go all the way back and take up more spaces with no cars around and if spaces are tight in shopping center etc i just pay two tickets. and i don't even think twice about it.

mustbemad17 · 09/05/2018 20:12

I officially hate anybody that does this deliberately. I parked in a normal space at our supermarket the other day, within my lines...came back to some absolute wanker who had parked his car so close to my driver's side i could just about get my arm through the door.
I try to park away from entrances so i have space...36 weeks pregnant, i'm rather rotund. Yet i seem to attract every tosser that disregards the lines. Have given up now because climbing across from the passenger side is painful, so i park in p&c spaces if free. I would never deliberately damage somebody's car but the angry thoughts that fly through my brain are not good!!!

NameChangeCuzImAHorriblePerson · 09/05/2018 20:15

I'd rather they did this than take up the parent and child spaces like they usually do, so then I have to try and manouver twins in car seats next to other bad parking wankers.

Skiiltan · 09/05/2018 20:58

It's okay if they buy two tickets and so are paying for two spaces.

No it isn't. They're still preventing someone else from parking. At the hospital where I work sometimes it's common to find two cars taking up four spaces (occasionally five, if they've each added a slant to their artistic impression of parking), while people trying to get themselves or their partner/parent/child to an appointment can't park anywhere.

Alpacages · 09/05/2018 21:05

My last car was a Q7 couldn’t afford an SQ7 they do take up a whole space, it was wider than everyone’s else’s car that I know. I had to get DC out through the boot in some car parks.
People who take up 2 spaces though are arseholes and obviously don’t feel confident enough to try and manoeuvre into only 1 space like the rest of us do.

purplelila2 · 09/05/2018 21:07

@mummyrabbitpeppapig omg I am that female.
I do it so people won't dent my car!!!

purplelila2 · 09/05/2018 21:08

Before I get completely slated I park in spaces that have hatched lines next to them so I can use more space !

RunYouJuiceBitch · 09/05/2018 21:28

bettytaghetti

I feel you. It's annoying when that happens.

SaltireSaltire · 09/05/2018 22:28

Not sure people who can’t park between lines should be driving! Same essential skill as driving down a road where cars are parked on either side.

Ethylred · 09/05/2018 23:26

Online shopping saves so much fuss.

MrsWembley · 10/05/2018 08:04

Thanks for that, Ethylred - coz no one ever needs to park anywhere unless they're shopping Hmm

Oh, and blaake, just pointing it out...

Those who say they do this, do you really feel no shame? Even if (as one poster has already said) you pay for a second ticket, you are stopping someone else from potentially getting to an appointment and you have no idea how important that might be. But oh no, your car is more important than anything. So park somewhere else then, if you're that scared of getting dinged. And yes, to those explaining why you do it - WE ALREADY KNOW Angry

I am quite on the fence about this one. Yes some people are inconsiderate wankers, some are crap at parking but really a rethink of car park design would help enormously. In the states there is fishbone parking, so spaces are all at an angle. Much easier to get into, super easy to back out of.

BlueBug45 · 10/05/2018 08:18

I deliberately park away from entrances so I have more space. However 50% of the time some fecker parks right next to me even though there are loads of other empty bays, which is why I understand why my brothers' park their cars in two spaces.

On a few occasions I've had an injured leg and have caught the man person doing it. They have deliberately ignored me when I've asked them to move so I can get into my car. Luckily because I'm loud some other person has told them the issue so they do move.

netflixandpill · 10/05/2018 11:35

to answer about 'do we feel no shame'

nope, as i said i don't think about it.

i wouldn't do it in a hospital or a busy car park but there is ALWAYS hundreds of parking spaces all the way back in our local asda for example.
no one ever parks there, takes you 5 minutes to walk to the actual store but it gives me plenty of space to get all four of my children out safely, i can open doors wide and use it as parenting space. which, again, i am yet to manage to park into.

Skiiltan · 10/05/2018 12:32

@redexpat - a rethink of car park design would help enormously. In the states there is fishbone parking, so spaces are all at an angle. Much easier to get into, super easy to back out of.

This is an important point. Most car parks in the UK are very badly laid out, which makes them very dangerous. You nearly always have to reverse out of a perpendicular space with no visibility to either side (especially if someone has parked a van or a ridiculous monstrosity of an SUV next to you). Given that most car parks don't have one-way rules, and 75% of people ignore then anyway, this makes the likelihood of crashes or near-misses very high.

Another thing I don't understand about car parks in the UK is why supermarkets and retail parks are allowed to have car parks with only a single point of entry/exit. This causes huge and unnecessary congestion, especially around Christmas. I'm sure it must be possible for councils to make planning permission conditional on having more than one route for exit from the site and not having vehicles queuing for the petrol station obstructing the normal flow of traffic.

blaaake · 10/05/2018 17:04

@MrsWembley you seem to be very angry, and as such clearly didn't properly read my posts. I said that I parked like that in spaces which are too small for my car, far away from the doors in a car park that wasn't full. I wouldn't do it in Tesco or somewhere modern with large spaces as it would be unnecessary

blaaake · 10/05/2018 17:05

And I'm not arsed about scratches on my car!! I'm arsed about not being able to get in it !

LittleRen · 10/05/2018 17:16

I do this sometimes. I have an Audi Q7, it's massive... as someone said car parking spaces are generally too small as cars have got bigger over the years. My car is really wide, I only got it a year ago and the amount of scratches and dings it has on it from other car doors is shocking... it's black so it all shows. I know don't give a damn now if I park over two spaces, unless it's in a new car park with decent sized spaces. I am always SO careful not to hit other people's cars with my doors... clearly other people aren't so careful. I do however park away from entrances where there are lots of spaces, so I am not too much of a CF... and to be fair most of the time I am in P&C dragging my three kids out of the car.

blaaake · 10/05/2018 17:17

Prepare yourself to be told it's standard size @LittleRen Confused

FranticallyPeaceful · 10/05/2018 17:18

Used to do this when mine were in infant car seats and I couldn’t get an end space or a parent/child space. Unfortunately the only way I could physically get my child out of the car!

FranticallyPeaceful · 10/05/2018 17:20

I’ve also been tempted when pregnant because I’m massive right now and sometimes can’t fit out of the car. Haven’t done it as thankfully OH has been able to drop me and then park whilst I’m already out

imweirdandcool · 10/05/2018 17:24

i do it because well im a cow

moo.

Greyhorses · 10/05/2018 17:27

I’m tempted to do this as I have a big 4x4 and people constantly bang my doors even though I’m right in the middle of the space Hmm I can’t help that the space is too small.

I also park over towards the line on one side if I have DS as I can’t open the door wide enough to get him out without smashing into the car beside me.

I think wider spaces are required for anyone who drives anything bigger than a standard car.
