Just curious what most people have - and what people are ok with.

And before I get any strident judgements about it never being ok to have points, can people please refrain themselves.

OP posts:
TorviBrightspear · 08/05/2018 13:46

I don't have any points, in over 25 years of driving. But that's actually down to luck. I do generally drive pretty well, but would be the first to confess I've had a couple of mishaps that could have resulted in points/fine at another time.

specialsubject · 08/05/2018 13:49

only on mn is not brea king the law defined as sanctimonious. and it is seriously hard of thinking to relate it to drink.

mind that tree, eh - as you clearly arent bothered about hitting people.ideally you will hit one of your equally dangerous pals and improve road safety for the rest of us.

megletthesecond · 08/05/2018 13:49

Zero in the 20 years I've been driving. Because I don't speed or drive like a prat.

reallybadidea · 08/05/2018 13:50

How odd that you think people who don't break the law are smug twats

I didn't say that though. You may be good at sticking to the speed limit, but reading comprehension's not one of your strong points.

teaandtoast · 08/05/2018 13:51

None.

SoyDora · 08/05/2018 13:52

0, and I’m not a particularly slow driver! I’ve been driving 15 years. DH had 3 about 9 years ago.

FuzzyOwl · 08/05/2018 13:52

I don’t have any but I’ve had three points in the past. I’ve been driving for 22 years.

ICantCopeAnymore · 08/05/2018 13:52

Well that's laughable. I teach reading comprehension - I get excellent results. I'm also very good at it myself. It has been mentioned many times in this post, that people who don't speed are smug, so I think I comprehend perfectly well Smile

ICantCopeAnymore · 08/05/2018 13:55

How is it sneery to say "I don't speed, I'm not above the law"?

That's a fact. Common sense. No sneering involved.

Also, Yvest, you're right, well done. I'm sanctimonious because I don't break the law and I don't need alcohol for anything, so I don't drink it!

Congratulations on your observations.

One of the above posters is correct. Only on Mumsnet is it smug and sanctimonious to not break the law, or not need alcohol.

It's very sad.

Pandora1box · 08/05/2018 13:59

I knew all the sanctimonious “no points in 300 years of driving” crowd would pop up. Same people who never drink more than half a tea spoon of sherry once every 5 years I imagine.

Bloody hell this is like the school yard. "You can't hang out with us unless you drink two liters of White Lightening that you've robbed from the Spar. If you don't do it you're not cool enough for us"

SadieHH · 08/05/2018 14:01

None. Never had any, been driving for 30 years...Jesus, I feel as old as Methuselah

BigGreenOlives · 08/05/2018 14:03

0, have been driving over 30 years. DH 0, over 35 years, DD 0, 3 years

llangennith · 08/05/2018 14:05

None at the moment. Got 3 for spending on M4 5 years ago.

Madbengalmum · 08/05/2018 14:05

So none of those without a penalty point have ever gone above the speed limit? 🤔🤥🤔

dayinlifeof · 08/05/2018 14:05

I knew all the sanctimonious “no points in 300 years of driving” crowd would pop up.

It's not sanctimonious, it's answering the question.

If I'd said "none. I've been driving for 21 years and am a far better driver than you lot who obviously couldn't care about keeping children safe" then I'd be sanctimonious but I just said "none. I've been driving for 21 years" and that's just a statement of fact.

llangennith · 08/05/2018 14:06

No I didn’t get 3 points for spending!! For speeding😂

llangennith · 08/05/2018 14:08

I think the drivers with penalty points on their licence won’t be too keen to post on here. I know I wouldn’t. I know plenty of good drivers who have penalty points. The more motorway driving you do the more the chances you’ll speed.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/05/2018 14:11

llangennith, I would have been BANNED for spending! Shock

I know lots of good drivers with penalty points too. I don't know many who've had accidents.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/05/2018 14:13

@Madbengalmum - I certainly didn't say that I have never gone over the speed limit - only that I do my best not to.

I am aware that I do sometimes drift over the speed limit, but I try to be aware of my speed, and reduce it to the speed limit if I do go over it.

I do think that there is an element of luck about it. As I said, I am aware that I am not perfect, vis a vis speeding - but I have never been caught speeding. That may be partly because I do try not to speed, but I am sure that there is also an element of luck - I have been lucky enough not to speed past a camera/speed trap - plus I do a lot of my driving on quiet country roads - and I assume that the police/local authorities are far less likely to set up speed cameras there than on busy urban roads.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/05/2018 14:15

"It's not sanctimonious, it's answering the question."

Exactly, @dayinlifeof - the question was asked, and I answered it honestly - I am not sure how that makes me sanctimonious.

AreWeDoingThisNow · 08/05/2018 14:24

0 but I have been on the speed awareness course twice 😳 the first time I was a bit zoned out and matching the speed of the car in front on my drive home from work, got done by a static camera that I'd driven through a thousand times. Second time I was over enthusiastic about an upcoming 40 zone and got caught by a mobile camera. Been driving 15 years.

DH is smug that he's never had points or done the course - but he did get banned in his early twenties (well before we met) and have to resit his test because he was caught doing over 100 in the first two years of driving - he's less of a nob now fortunately.

hungryhippo90 · 08/05/2018 14:27

0- I’ve gotta be careful as I’ve had my licence less than 2 years so I’m quite painful to be behind a lot of the time.

DH 0 for speeding. 3 for eating pasta whilst driving on a motorway. He was caught fork in hand and everything. Major twat move on his part

Madbengalmum · 08/05/2018 14:27

I think the point is that alot of this is about luck. Yes people can harp on about never going over the speed limit, but most people have in their lives gone over the speed limit by 4 miles per hour, this is enough to get you points or a speed awareness course. Doing 20,000 miles a year is going to make you a great deal more vulnerable to this than those of you who do 10 miles a day, it is just the law of averages.

Elementtree · 08/05/2018 14:27

None. I've never had any points. And I've only had half a teaspoon of sherry this year.

Penners99 · 08/05/2018 14:28

I have none
