Just curious what most people have - and what people are ok with.

And before I get any strident judgements about it never being ok to have points, can people please refrain themselves.

OP posts:
DGRossetti · 08/05/2018 11:53

None in 35 years.

Bluelady · 08/05/2018 11:53

None - more by luck than judgement.

ShortBook · 08/05/2018 11:53

Three.

I've had that twice now.

First time I was on a dual carriageway at 1 am with no other cars on the road...one of those ones with a 50 speed limit and loads of speed cameras. Think I was doing 56. That expired years ago.

Second time I had missed a turnoff (again late, and dark) and was looking for somewhere to turn around - it was a 50 and I was doing about 35...then I saw a car come up behind me so I sped up to avoid annoying them and didn't notice that for a short stretch it had turned into a 40 with a speed camera. I was doing 46.

Driving in unknown places, in the dark, when I am a bit tired is not a good combo for me.

Idrinkandiknowstuff · 08/05/2018 11:55

None, and I don’t know anyone who has.

theycallmebabydriver · 08/05/2018 11:55

None and never had any. I can see how it's easy to accidentally pick up 3 points, every now and again I find myself passing a sign and not having released the limit has changed (e.g. a 40 zone going down to 30) but if somone permanatly had 3 points (ie they keep picking up more once one lot expires) or had more than 3 I'd be a bit Hmm about their driving

TSSDNCOP · 08/05/2018 11:56

None ever, 30 years of driving.

How is an eternal mystery as I’m definitely not in the 70 is a limit not a target camp.

tinytemper66 · 08/05/2018 11:56

Never had a ticket in 28 years of driving.

safariboot · 08/05/2018 11:56

None in 2 1/2 years of driving. (And no 'speed awareness course' either). I've been very cautious about my speed because six points is a ban for new drivers.

Moreisnnogedag · 08/05/2018 11:57

None but have done the speed awareness course. I was shocked at how many people I know have done the course!

safariboot · 08/05/2018 11:58

PS: I earnt myself a bus lane fine once, was picking up a friend and pulled into the bus stop, £60 or something, but that's not a points offence.

waterlego6064 · 08/05/2018 11:58

None currently, but had 6 at one point, some years ago whilst in my twenties. Went over the speed limit again more recently and did the Speed Awareness course.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 08/05/2018 11:59

I’ve got 3 and DH has 3. Its very common.

pinkDEpanter · 08/05/2018 12:01

I was caught doing 35mph in a 30 zone (stupid distracted mummy moment) my first offence so was allowed to go on a speed awareness course, £75 and no points

PlatypusPie · 08/05/2018 12:01

None, though I had a nervous few weeks after bowling along at what I thought was a virtuous 37 in a 40 zone - nasty shock of seeing mobile police unit complete with radar guns tucked away around corner. The 30 sign was small ( as I noted on my return journey ) and it was an incongruous place to have the 200 yard stretch of limit, but there must have been a reason and it was my fault for not noticing. Highly relieved to not get done and I do a steady 29 there now. I would have done the speed awareness course.

ajandjjmum · 08/05/2018 12:02

What would really be interesting would be if alongside the number of points, posters said how many miles they drive a year. Grin

jedediah · 08/05/2018 12:02

None (thanks to the awareness course - it was an accident, in my defence)

Figgygal · 08/05/2018 12:02

Driving 20 years and never had any

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 08/05/2018 12:03

I’ve got 3 and drive 70 miles a day, 5 days a week on a major U.K. motorway.

A woman worked for me who was always tettering on 6 or 3 and she drove 120 miles a day. It’s prety much inevitable with that volume of driving.

No it's not.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 08/05/2018 12:05

Good to know your opinion DGRossetti

JacquesHammer · 08/05/2018 12:06

Why?

Longdistance · 08/05/2018 12:06

None on my Uk license.

I got caught speeding in Oz, but they don’t do a points system it’s a fine.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 08/05/2018 12:08

Because it’s tricky keeping to 70 for a prolonged period on a motorway (anyone who has been on a motorway doing 70 knows full well most people don’t) but mainly complex and protracted use of temporary speed limits which can be easily missed.

UrgentScurryfunge · 08/05/2018 12:11

Never in about 15 years. Some good judgement, some good luck Wink

DH has had 3 here and 3 there over the years. His weakness is that he frequently drives on unfamiliar roads and often the rural types that change frequently from 50/40/30/50/40/50/30/50... and it can be easy to miss a sign and not realise that the limit has changed particularly while also concentrating on an unfamiliar route and traffic flows. Much easier to make an error and be caught out in that situation than predominantly driving on frequently used routes.

The only time my driving has attracted any official attention was being pulled over for doing 19 in a 30 Blush (knowing that area I think the police were suspicious of anyone not speeding Wink). In my defence, I was still adjusting a few days into my new car which quite different to my old one. It was a foul night of lashing rain around new year, and there are raised junctions along that road. Feeling a bit discombobulated, the police behind me threw me one stage too far.
We had a pleasant little chat, they were satisfied that I wasn't under the influence of anything more harmful than yoga and they told me to be more careful... I smiled and said I think you mean less careful... and pulled off making sure I got up to a nice 29mph Wink

I knew someone who rarely dipped down to 6 for long. I think he kept his brains in his right foot. Being a passenger with him is a test for the nerves.

soulrider · 08/05/2018 12:12

None in 21 years of driving, no speed awareness courses either. Drive about 18k a year on average.
