Just curious what most people have - and what people are ok with.

And before I get any strident judgements about it never being ok to have points, can people please refrain themselves.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/09/2018 11:44

None at present.
I had 3 points about 25 years ago

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 02/09/2018 11:46

I have three now, but have also had three expire. Both were for SP30, the first time was before they offered the speed awareness course.

redsummershoes · 02/09/2018 11:51

none
been driving for 25 years
drive attentively and you know what the speedlimits are.

shirleyschmidt · 02/09/2018 11:53

0 currently (don't know how!) But 6 which have expired.

Santaclarita · 02/09/2018 11:54

None. Been driving 10 years. Almost 11 actually now, God I feel old.

scammedohshit · 02/09/2018 11:55

None. Been driving 30 years. Never even been stopped and have driven all across Europe too

PortiaCastis · 02/09/2018 11:56

None, been driving for 20years and haven't managed to get any yet. Lot's of country lanes round here which only a nutjob would speed on and as for the A road well that's nearly always clogged with traffic

theunsure · 02/09/2018 11:57

Never had any, driving for 21 years and do at least 15k miles a year.
Have had a selection of high performance cars and current vehicle has crazy acceleration.
I don’t think there is much excuse really-I hardly drive like Miss Daisy but my satnav has all the cameras on it and I can spot a speed trap or unmarked car a mile off.
Only the unobservant get caught.

Biker47 · 02/09/2018 11:57

None, and I speed all the time.

Bluelady · 02/09/2018 11:58

None. I've been driving for 40 years and have had three lots of three points in that time. I used to be a bit of a girl racer but I'm more Driving Miss Daisy these days.

Mookatron · 02/09/2018 12:03

None, and I have no idea how. I never speed on urban roads (even now it's 20 round here) but on the motorway I know I do. Of course, one can always turn up in the post though...

BakedBeans47 · 02/09/2018 12:03

None, I’ve been driving 25 years and never had any.

I was parked at lights a couple of months ago though when the police pulled me for using my phone (it was on my passenger seat and I was looking at the map) thankfully they just told me off, I’d have been bang to rights and on 6 points if they’d decided to take it further!

DonttouchthatLarry · 02/09/2018 12:08

None in 30 years of driving (average 8k miles a year) and husband none in 35 years (does 100 miles a day motorway commute).

More luck than judgement though - I always drive over 70 on the motorway but am also very aware. I hate it when people put warnings on FB about camera vans - either look out for them or do the speed limit - don't complain if you get caught.

There's a section of dual carriageway I commute on where they've changed a section to 40 from 60 - twice a day I drive along at being overtaken by 95% of other vehicles, yet I've never seen a speed trap there since it was changed.

About 20 odd years ago I pulled up on my mum's drive only to see a policeman behind me - he asked 'how long has xxx Road been a racetrack?', I said it wasn't, he said I'd been doing 40 in a 30 zone. I was quite tearful and told him I'd been up most of the night as my neighbours had had a house fire and were in hospital so I was tired and not concentrating. He just told me to be more careful in future and drove off. That would be the closest I've been to getting a fine/points.

pointythings · 02/09/2018 12:14

0 in 30 years of driving, but I'm not a saint. I know where the mobile camera spots are locally so am careful, the 30 limit is a red line and I adapt my driving to the conditions but I'm not perfect. I do think we need more variable speed limits, including areas where there isn't a limit in the way the Germans do it. Over there, if you don't drive to the conditions they get you for dangerous driving instead and I'd be fine with that.

inquiquotiokixul · 02/09/2018 12:17

None at the moment. Had my license about 22 years. Had 3 points about 17 years ago when I did 79mph in a 70mph zone (it was 5am on a Sunday morning. No other vehicles for miles around and I was needed at home for an emergency). Also had to do the speed awareness course a couple of years ago after misinterpreting the differently-designed speedo the first time I drove a new car.

Armchairanarchist · 02/09/2018 12:21

Been driving for 20+ years and haven't ever had any.

AliTheMinx · 02/09/2018 12:21

I've been driving for 22 years and haven't ever had points, which is surprising, as I'm pretty nippy. I would never deliberately speed, but sometimes I inadvertently do. I would consider myself a safe driver though and am always vigilant of others. I'd be gutted if I got any points. I try really hard not to use/look at my phone in the car (although sometimes make hands free calls).

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2018 12:25

None in over 30 years of driving, same for my DH.

cricketmum84 · 02/09/2018 12:35

Driving for 9 years - 0 points. I did have a panic about 6 months ago when I got flashed by a speed camera doing 33ish in a 30 but never got anything through so I presume it must have been out of film or something! Lucky escape!

recklessruby · 02/09/2018 13:59

Mine dropped off last year. I had 9 at one point Blush. Used to be a bit speedy but have learned my lesson after big fines and high insurance and am much more careful now. But my top speed getting them was 37 in a 30 zone.
Been driving 30 years but seemed to acquire all 9 in a year and a half.

specialsubject · 02/09/2018 14:04

none, I dont volunteer for them. nor do I drive at 80 on a motorway, but then I dont hate the next generation like most on here. I also buy my own petrol and know that drag goes up as square of speed.

Yogafailure · 02/09/2018 14:05

Been driving since Feb 88 and never had a point on my licence. Or a bump. Or reversed into a pole....

maybe driving is my "thing" as sure as hell nothing else is

BasicUsername · 02/09/2018 14:26

I have three points on my licence.

I got them for speeding on a motorway. At that point I was driving on average 500 miles per week, mainly motorways. I was lucky not to get more, as often drove in excess of 70.

Norma27 · 02/09/2018 14:31

None in 25 years. Husband driving about same time and has had 3 in that time.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/09/2018 14:37

None. I did have 3 once for speeding. Think I cried when the Police stopped me as I was feeling so ill at the time and it was a genuine mistake on a new road.
