AIBU to ask how many points you've got on your license for speeding?

Just curious what most people have - and what people are ok with.

And before I get any strident judgements about it never being ok to have points, can people please refrain themselves.

None now
Did have 6

TinDogTavern · 08/05/2018 12:12

Driving 31 years. Had two speeding tickets - did speed awareness course first time, then three points the second time. Points now expired. I think that’s pretty good for 31 years. (Ignoring the fact I got done again fairly soon after the course Blush the course is excellent and aside from that blip really influenced the way I drive.)

BakedBeans47 · 08/05/2018 12:13

None, been driving 25 years and never had any

ICantCopeAnymore · 08/05/2018 12:13

None in 18 years. I don't speed, I'm not above the law.

It's not inevitable, no matter how much driving you do. If you don't speed, you don't get a ticket. It's not rocket science.

FASH84 · 08/05/2018 12:13

None, but some of that is luck, I do a lot of long distance motorway driving and I'll admit I don't religiously stay under 70, 80 maybe... I am more cautious in built up and residential areas

MrKaplansGlasses · 08/05/2018 12:13

12 years driving and no points

Sugarplumfairy65 · 08/05/2018 12:14

Been driving over 30 years and never had any

OreoMini · 08/05/2018 12:16

Used to have 6, there now expired.

Partner has 0 also

TinDogTavern · 08/05/2018 12:17

I love “I don’t have any and neither does anyone I know” - do you ask to see their licence before you become friends with them? I can say hand on heart I have no idea whether any of my friends have any points.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/05/2018 12:17

I haven't any at the moment. Last trace disappeared in May this year.

I've never had more than 3 on my licence at a time but that's because I was fortunate to meet the criteria for speeding school.

Other than tootling along at the exact speed limit all the time, some of those who are smug about not having points, are also lucky that they were caught at the time. I know I've been lucky and not caught on motorways where I know I was speeding. No smugness from me.

Heismyopendoor · 08/05/2018 12:17

I don’t have any at all.

DH had 3 for speeding but they are gone now. He now has 0 in total

Mumtothelittlefella · 08/05/2018 12:19

0 now but 12 when I was in my 20’s. New car (not that’s that’s an excuse) all on the same part of the Seven Bridge, all on the same weekend (70 down to 50) 😳

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 08/05/2018 12:19

It’s not always 70 on the motorway anyway. Temporary speed limits are being used far more now - the limits on my daily journey vary from 40-70 in stretches. They change frequently and can be hard to keep up with when you’ve forgotten your perfect hat. There are also cameras at every gantry. Just

Spudlet · 08/05/2018 12:19

None, although that's more because I didn't get caught when I was younger! These days I am much more virtuous about keeping it down (always was in built up areas but I did like getting my toe down on the motorway...). Having DS in the back is definitely a steadying influence, plus where I live now the average speed is low - it's quite possible to do 70mph on the nearest dual carriageway to me quite safely and legally, and still be the fastest thing on the road outside of the rush hour.

I don't actually know how many miles I do these days, I haven't worked it out recently. I used to do about 15k a year, and I reckon I must be around that now - maybe a little below. Rural area so it's hard not to rely on the car.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 08/05/2018 12:19

Posted too soon- most people aren’t caught because the cameras aren’t there to catch them

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/05/2018 12:19

I agree with Sprinkles, high volume driving increases risk of speeding. I do about 15-20,000 business miles a year, some people do a lot more than that.

My neighbour boasts that she hasn't any points. She hasn't been driving since she surrendered her licence 20 years ago. Grin

Mumtothelittlefella · 08/05/2018 12:20

Oh and a two week driving ban 😳😳😳

HesterShaw · 08/05/2018 12:20

None and never have, but I'd say a bit of that is luck as I've definitely been flashed a few times. Never in built up areas though.

My MIL got 12 points on her licence and went to court to try and get off, saying people would lose their jobs if she couldn't drive. That was true, but all we were thinking was "Stop bloody speeding then FFS." My DM has also been on speed awareness course because she got to 6 points as has my uncle. All these three people had one thing in common - they were over 60, and they said the course was full of people their age. I found that very strange.

2018AnotherYearAnotherUsername · 08/05/2018 12:21

3 and I’ve done a speed awareness course. Been driving for 30 years. I used to have 6 that expired. I’ve also had a couple of parking tickets over the years. Compared to most MNers I am clearly a massive criminal Grin

Slartybartfast · 08/05/2018 12:21

zero,
i stick within the speed limit, in the main, although there are sections that I might creep over

gillybeanz · 08/05/2018 12:22

I don't drive but none of my close friends and family have any points for anything.
I think if your car is essential to your work, i.e no public transport, too far for taxi's, no colleagues to travel with etc then you behave in a way not to lose your license.

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 08/05/2018 12:22

I have 0 and haven't had any in the 13 years I've been driving. I think I'm tempting fate now by saying this.

ICantCopeAnymore · 08/05/2018 12:22

Why is it smug to not break the law? Its normal, surely?

bigbluebus · 08/05/2018 12:22

None - and never done a speed awareness course either. I have been driving for nearly 37 years.

SheSparkles · 08/05/2018 12:22

None, I did have 3 about 30 years ago, I was caught don’t 42 in a 30 limit....funny how you remember these things 😂
I love driving fast but have become more sensible about it these days. Speeding points didn’t affect your insurance premium when I had them but I know they do now
