To hate Jo Wiley

Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

I cannot stand the woman. Years ago at work I had to put up with Radio 1 every day and all its associated shite. Mid-morning was JW, gasping between sentences and gushing, 'Oh, I absolutely LOVE that track' [it's a record, you silly woman] after every record. She is a worse broadcaster than Jamie Cullum, who has some very odd ideas about jazz music. But I digress.

Jo Whiley is awful.

Jamie Callum is an odd little man isn't he?
He seems like an alien musician - works alone , nobody listens to his show and not many people have an opinion on him. He isn't off this world.

I’m not a regular fan but Steve Wright’s show gave me the will to live during a particularly grinding 10mph crawl along the M25 this afternoon. Just enough diversion to stop me falling asleep but not so enthralling that I didn’t notice the large chunk of something fall off the lorry ahead in the next lane and roll into my lane😦

@The80sweregreat - I listen to Jamie Cullum's radio show quite often, and enjoy it. I would never listen to any of his own music, though.

To other posters - I wish people would stop telling everyone to listen to Radio 6 Music. The thread is about a programme that most people listen to while driving home from work. I don't know how many people have DAB radios in their cars. I know I've never had one, so Radio 6 has never been an option (but I wouldn't listen to it anyway because most of the music it plays is very dull).

Agree that those suggesting Radio 6 Music are missing the point - it's not the music we're after, it's the chat and laughs. And there is no point in having Confessions if you no longer have Matt and the collective, they are what made them so very funny.

Does anyone know what's happening next week? The new show doesn't start until the 14th so there's 5 days of...what?
And I assume they will still have someone doing sport? Will it be someone new? I don't get why they're changing it all. Drivetime was a bit of everything, so there was bound to be bits everyone liked, which is exactly what you want for that slot.

I've never listened to Jo Whiley because I have very little interest in music as anything other than background radio noise. She seems like an odd choice for a show like this, but I am beginning to suspect those who think that Simon Mayo will be leaving to be a full-time author before the year is up are probably right. I wish I knew the full story behind this decision. It seems bizarre on so many levels.
And even people who like Jo Whiley - I haven't heard anyone actually say yes, this sounds like a great idea and much better than Drivetime.

I'm getting all depressed thinking about it again. I loved my weeknight routine, cooking dinner and having Drivetime on. Loved the Homework questions, and the bookclub, and loved Nigel cooking, it seemed like such a strange idea to have cooking on the radio but they totally made it work.

Re Jamie Cullum: we have a game to see how long we can listen to the show before I can't bear it any more and have to switch off. I think 6 minutes is my limit.

If they wanted to add in a female and change the dynamic Sarah Cox would have been a much better choice for that slot. I have nothing against JW but not at that time.

I'm beyond angry about this - the BBC have completely disregarded the listeners opinions. I didn't realise either that the confessions etc where going, I'm about to kick off a stink in social media.
It's funny how journalists jump on here to copy threads, but no one is taking any notice of this one.

I liked Jo Whiley and Steve Lamaqs 8-10 evening show in the 90s when I was a student.

Not now though. Im going to have to alter my tea time radio listening.

I really would like to like her, since she's made it big in a male dominated industry, but I don't. I find both her voice and her personality irritating. Would much prefer Sara Cox, Liza Tarbuck or Lauren Laverne in the prime time line up.

I love Mayo, and if he leaves it will finish me off. I sulk a bit when he goes on holiday
I'm prepared to give JW a chance though. I doubt Simon will put up with any crap.
I've been a fan since R1 days and loved the confessions when I got the bus to work!

SW must have some serious dirt on someone high up to still have a job. I wouldn't have minded if JW had been given his slot.
I like KB, he's not up his own arse like CE. Also love Popmaster too. It's my ambition to go on it
