Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

I know most of you won't believe me but she's actually lovely.

Peachydream · 01/06/2018 07:40

I have given it a couple of weeks listening to the new JW & SM show and I'm out. It's lost its sense of fun- I want that joy of finishing work & heading home switching the radio on and a bit of gleefully giggling along.

They are both great presenters separately but just don't work together. No chemistry, sounds forced and awkward. The problem is the harder they try the worse it gets, I'm finding it dull and boring. Why so serious?

Sara Cox is great in the morning, I love her sense of humour. Also enjoying Trevor Nelson doing pop master. I've put my learn Italian CD back in.

DopeyDazy · 01/06/2018 07:50

loved Sara Cox this week great instead of that twat Chris Evans

HolyMountain · 01/06/2018 07:57

Sara Cox is such a good radio personality, she’s be brill in the Steve Wright slot

Squeegle · 01/06/2018 10:28

I do believe that she is lovely, I have no problem with her really except that she is cool and trendy and I’m not and I prefer to listen to Simon who is also not.

CiderwithBuda · 01/06/2018 11:07

I have no issue with JW personally. I’m sure she is lovely. And she suited the slot she had. I used to quite enjoy listening to her then. Shoehorning her into a programme that worked so well and dismantling the team that made that programme was a huge bloody mistake.

Fontella · 01/06/2018 12:08

I'm sure she is lovely .. I just don't want to listen to her on drive time on Radio 2.

She belongs on 6 music or where she was previously on her own bespoke music focused show in a later evening or weekend slot.

Her voice is wrong for drive time, her presenting style is wrong for drive time, her lack of chemistry with Simon Mayo is evident and you cannot force that - it's either there or it's not. It just doesn't work.

I'm sure she's a very nice woman and she is clearly a fantastic radio presenter with a passion for music - she just doesn't work on that show at that time of day.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/06/2018 12:29

@Fontella has she got a passion for music? She never mentions it Wink

I agree, I'm sure she's a lovely woman. I have nothing against her personally (she's a bit like the Royal Family in that respect for me) but I don't like her on my radio thanks

Fontella · 01/06/2018 13:22

KichenDancefloor · 01/06/2018 15:19

Urgggg...

I've just got used to listening to Greg James on R1, in place of the old R2 drive time show. Now they announce Nick 'name drop' Grimshaw is taking over that slot.

So it will either be Jo Whiley 'this one time when I was at the pub with Dave Grohl' on R2

Or Grimmy 'me and my mate Rita Ora' on R2

Or I can turn it off which is far more likely.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 01/06/2018 16:24

Given it three weeks of dipping in and out, managed twenty minutes at one point - still can't stand it. Drivetime was so enjoyable, this feels like something I have to tolerate.

It actually makes me feel sad as it is nowhere near as good as Drivetime. The only vaguely positive thing is that they have moved back confessions so I can switch on for that and then switch off.

The name dropping is doing my head in. One day this week Jo launched into a spiel about forgetting her passport but instead of just giving us the basics and how she was feeling she managed to get about three celebrity names and I think she even mentioned climbing Kilimanjaro for charity.

ARGGGGGHHH - please move Jo back to her old slot, where it sounds like she was appreciated, rather than inflicting her on me when I am trying to cook dinner. AND change the music back - I do not want to be introduced to new music choices, am pretty ambivalent about music and just want the banter and a bit of cheesy pop.

AND (Final point) when I complain, again, BBC do not fob me off with, 'Give it time'. How patronising. I am perfectly capable of knowing when something is shite.
(And breathe)

Pop over to radio 4 extra for a bit of drama and comedy. That's my advice.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 01/06/2018 16:48

Is Radio 4 Extra actually funny? The comedy on Radio 4 is very hit and miss.

Redact · 01/06/2018 18:20

Tried listening again as loved all request Friday but Simon can hardly get a word in edgewise agh!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/06/2018 19:10

I don’t mind Jo Whiley on my radio. In the Jeremy Vine slot or Steve Wright slot I might actually change the radio at work to radio 2. But the new show really isn’t working as a drivetime slot.

Any particular comedy you recommend BOOP?

wowfudge · 01/06/2018 19:45

Nothing with Marcus Brigstocke in it. He is possibly the least funny 'comedian' in the history of the world.

Smidge001 · 01/06/2018 19:58

Oh yes! I heard that bit when she was jumping in telling her passport story! It was unbelievable. She must just love the sound of her own voice. It was in the middle of the confessions slot. Instead of just saying forgiven, she launched into her own really boring story about forgetting her passport when she was doing something for charity with Mr x (name drop) and how lovely Mr Y was (name drop) for going back and getting it...

I found myself shouting at her again to just SHUT UP ALREADY.

TheKitchenWitch · 01/06/2018 19:59

I finally managed to listen to a bit of the all request show tonight (we've been away). Oh god. Cringing all the way through. And why does she keep correcting Simon?
It's just awful.
The weird thing is that I can absolutely see that Jo Whiley is a good presenter - I quite like her voice tbh, and I can see that she is into her music (she mentions it every now and again :D ), and all that is good.
She is, however, crap at chatting to regular people, there is no chemistry AT ALL between her and Simon, and the the format is shite. Who wants half an hour of serious interview on their way home from work ffs?

Squeegle · 01/06/2018 20:07

Have you all filled in the petition? I’m sure it will help, there is so much opposition to the new format - the powers that be just have to listen don’t they?

Mueslibox · 01/06/2018 20:14

But Grimmys mixes between 8.30 9ish remind me of my misbegotten youth (as am on school run). I used to think he was a twat but he’s REALLY grown on me recently. He has great music taste (ie similar to mine).

BitOutOfPractice · 01/06/2018 23:22

OP of course it's hit and miss too. Mostly from the 60s / 50s so of its time.

Drama is often superb. I've just been gripped by a serialisation of Lady Audrey's Secret.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 02/06/2018 08:14

BBC complaints are still trotting out the 'give it time' stock response.

It is excruciating to listen to her with her complete lack of empathy and awareness. I feel on edge listening to her.

If it were me I'd resign. She is ruining the show.

mydogmymate · 02/06/2018 11:19

Could someone post the link to the petition please? We need to keep this going.

Fontella · 02/06/2018 13:22

I really enjoyed Ricky Wilson on Radio 2 this morning.

Had no idea he was a presenter - but switched on in the kitchen, thought the voice sounded familiar until I twigged who it was .... and I thought he was a natural!

Very easy listening show, good rapport with the callers - I thought he was good.

Fontella · 02/06/2018 13:26

Just looked and Ricky was sitting in for 'Breakfast with Dermot' apparently.

Not a show I listen to normally, but I'm glad I caught it this morning. Decent playlist too.

It's here on Listen Again if anyone's interested ...
