Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

Sooo disappointed. It can never be the same as the daftness between Simon and Matt. It was hilarious. Where has Matt actually gone? Has he just gone off to work somewhere else or was he booted out? I’ve got the podcast from their last show saved, I need to listen to it.

Agree that Jo drones on a bit. Simon sounds like some sort of guest presenter, when she lets him get a word in edgeways. The whole dynamic has changed and it’s shit and I feel so sorry for Simon.

KarinVogel · 25/05/2018 15:50

I was out of the country for a few weeks so missed all of this and was perplexed this week driving home from work and wondering who the woman was. She was awful .Very annoying hesitant speech pattern and dull sounding. I honestly thought she was a celeb who was being given a go at radio work. Dont 'they' ( whoever makes these decisions) know that its all about the voice and personality. I dot give a stuff about a persons looks or interests .All I have to go on is whatever comes out of their mouths and if that doesn't hold me then what use are they? Im gobsmacked that the woman is Jo Whiley. Im even more gobsmacked that they have exchanged Matt for her.
I couldnt bear the lack of warmth and entertainment so I switched off . Local radio it is then until I can find something else to listen to.At least that tells me about the traffic conditions (about 30 minutes after the traffic's cleared but they mean well).

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/05/2018 16:00

Wiley is bearable on the later night, Earnest Music Lover slot. Just.

Mayo is genuinely one of the best presenters in radio. He’s funny without needing to do it at the expense of individuals, he’s fluent, the ensemble set up works (and I actually think it’s rare that the zoo radio setup works.) confessions is quite simply genius (I have had to pull over before I’ve been laughing so much.)

The whole show justvhad such a great positive feel. Plus the folk awards.

What. A . Shame.

sameoldsameold19 · 25/05/2018 22:15

Im actually liking the fact that Simon is being usurped a bit, he's usually a bit superior and patronising and he's met his equal. Jo is much better at talking to the kids I think, Simon always seems a bit out of his depth when talking the the kids. And I'm so glad i don't have to listen to Matts loud guffawing any more he was awful. I know a dissenting voice but there you go. Im giving it a chance to settle in.

Smidge001 · 26/05/2018 23:38

There was an article in The Times today pointing out the BBC 2 bosses have got it wrong and the listeners hate it. Apparently there are two separate petitions going round with over 5000 signatures on each.
But they just quote the BBC's "give it a chance" statement. I think we need to keep writing and complaining so they don't start thinking it has begun to grow on us.

CiderwithBuda · 27/05/2018 08:37

I think you are right Smidge. There was a similar article in the DM. In fact I spotted the Times one as someone who follows JW on .twitter linked to it saying the show was growing on him and she thanked him. I feel very sorry for her. She’s been thrown under a bus. But she just doesn’t suit that time and show.

I’m going to write to Bob Shennen again. He passed the last letter on but I’m writing to him again as buck stops with him. In my view anyway.

Quite frankly whoever came up with the whole idea should be sacked as they have no bloody clue.

MrsMozart · 27/05/2018 08:45

I'll complain again.

I've not, as yet, found anyone who actually likes the new show.

I tried again on Friday. Stilted is not the word for it. JM wasn't good with the callers.

I'm actually starting to get annoyed with the whole thing. Radio 2 especially seems to be having so many callers woffling on about who gives a shit what. We pay for professional entertainers and now we're served up Sam from Sippenham detailing his oh so really not interesting weekend plans, and two presenters that were grand in their own shows but is now just a horrible mishmash.

Signed,

Grumpy of Somewhere Oop Norfff

Squeegle · 28/05/2018 09:38

It’s very funny if you have a look at the bbc2 Facebook page. All the replies to their posts are saying #bringbackdrivetime. BBC really can’t ignore this strength of feeling surely.

Morethan123 · 28/05/2018 23:48

Have just signed the petition on Change.org Bring back Simon Mayo and the dream team. Nearly 9000 signatures. Ruined the school pickup and lost 4 listeners. Awful show now.

Smokeypokey · 29/05/2018 18:37

I really thought I was alone in this !and did`nt realise the strength of feeling, and how she interrupts all the time. I have radio 2 on all day and I loved old style Drivetime ,Jo Whiley ( Whiney ) has a dreadful nasal voice .
I am completely undone !
We want Matt ! We want Matt !

ferntwist · 29/05/2018 18:39

YABU. Jo Whiley is great! Breath of fresh air

EachandEveryone · 29/05/2018 18:41

I actually enjoyed it tonight. And the confession was very funny.

wowfudge · 29/05/2018 18:52

I like Jo Whiley. Just not on Simon Mayo's show. They're not being billed as a double act, it's as though she has top billing and for me that's really uncomfortable. I also wish they'd go back to the mix of music they had before. It's all a bit worthy/muso now.

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/05/2018 19:07

The new show has made The Telegraph today.

wowfudge · 30/05/2018 19:28

Unfortunately after the first two paragraphs the rest of the article is behind a paywall. Doesn't look as though it's favourable though.

sweetboykit · 30/05/2018 19:30

I was really frustrated that the rest of the article was behind the paywall!

BitOutOfPractice · 30/05/2018 19:47

She said today she has no interest in food at all. I can't trust someone who says that Wink

Redact · 30/05/2018 20:33

I've given up on it altogether now. I've not managed to listen to a full show, it's awful. The old drivetime was my favourite show, I always looked forward to Nigel cooking, mid week mosh, confessions and the banter. Oh how I miss the banter. The petition is almost at 10k now, 9900 ish last time I looked. BBC listen to the license fee payers!

daffodillament · 30/05/2018 20:37

Can't believe all this fuss. I am just sorry she hasn't got her own show anymore. Used to love her evening show. She has plays great music and seems like such a genuine person. I love her.

GinisLife · 30/05/2018 20:42

Not read the whole thread but I HATE the new show. I've never liked Jo Whiney and find her patronising and so far up celebs arses. She has no charisma and can't be part of a team. I feel so sorry for Simon as I really think he's been hijacked to meet some made up gender equality agenda. I'm not a great fan of Sara Cox (but she's growing on me) and she'd have been a far better sidekick cos she's at least fun and bright & breezy. Her & Simon might have had a good laugh. Gutted that Matt & Nigel have gone as well. I've signed the petition, I'm going to send my email to Mr Shennan and continue to whinge on the FB page. You have to hope they can't be so arrogant as to ignore the strength of feeling about this.

user1486076969 · 30/05/2018 20:49

I've just submitted a 'complaint' to the BBC website asking for Simon to get his own show back Grin

user1486076969 · 30/05/2018 20:50

GinisLife - Sara Cox and Simon would be a great comboGrin

Fontella · 30/05/2018 20:51

Jo Whiney

Hahaha - perfect name for her.

Grin
wowfudge · 30/05/2018 21:30

The thing that gets me is that they are not a double act. It really feels as though she is ungenerous in terms of the mike time she lets Simon have. The dynamic is wrong and it just doesn't work. I loved his drive time show. I really liked her 8pm show. I want this to end and for her to let him get on with it.

#leavesimontoit

BitOutOfPractice · 30/05/2018 23:25

I think the problem is that Simon's presentation style is quite deadpan and wry and Jo so cool and low key it just doesn't spark
