Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

You're welcome to Vanessa. She makes my teeth ache.

I listen to BBC WM before (and sometimes after) 6.30am.

sluj · 19/05/2018 21:57

Oh no, YABU. Vanessa on BBC Radio London is fantastic. She is extremely articulate and takes on all kinds of difficult topics and callers. I'm just sorry the radio 2 show is too early for me

BitOutOfPractice · 20/05/2018 06:26

@MrsMozart just listen on the app!

MrsMozart · 20/05/2018 08:22

Bit Thank you but sadly no doubt the app will want lots of rights to my device, which is a no-no (phone used for work). I'll find a way to hear it Grin

mydogmymate · 20/05/2018 18:47

Do you reckon Jo Whiley now realised how fucking irritating she is? Confused

Auldspinster · 21/05/2018 10:12

Cerys is undermined in her new music quest by the years she spent in the turgid MOR combo that was Catatonia.

MakeMineALarge1 · 21/05/2018 10:17

Can't stand Cerys Matthews, her accent gets more and more pronounced each time she gets air time.

I actually quite like Sara Cox. But get Jo Whiley off drive time #bringbackmatt

DialMforMordor · 21/05/2018 12:59

I don't hold a particular dislike for Jo Whiley but I downloaded the Confessions podcast today to walk the dog and... it's not the same.

It's a bit like when your friend's loud office friend joins in your book club and doesn't give it a week to get the lie of the land before wading it to change everything. For a start, she announces she won't be Sister Jo, oh no, as that's so not her, but she'll be Madame JoJo because it's a racey Soho revue bar, don'tyouknow. Then she reminds everyone she likes a whisky, crowbars in a reference to Hayzee Fantayzee AND The Prodigy into her very first confessional hearing AND THEN I STOPPED LISTENING and downloaded the Wittertainment podcast instead.

knittingforfunmum · 21/05/2018 17:15

Totally agree with you. All the fun of Drive
time has gone.
Bring back Matt.!

redrubiesnmore · 21/05/2018 18:42

I'll still trying but it is not working! Will I never laugh again on Drive time?

This is so sad! I miss Matt so much.

I feel like I'm being forced to develop some music culture or something.

Like I really want a kebab but I'm being forced to have a prawn sandwich on Friday night. It is good music, I suppose. But not what I want.

I just want to laugh. Where's Matt teasing Simon about his silly accents.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/05/2018 19:10

@MrsMozart it really doesn't. Just download it and start listening. No need to engage your paranoia at all!

MrsMozart · 21/05/2018 19:27

Bit But but but that's what keeps me going!

Will go poke Grin

I had another go with the thing today. And again it's rubbish and makes me sad.

Taranta · 21/05/2018 20:13

Jo Whiley is the radio presenting equivalent of Coldplay, what she lacks in depth and charisma she makes up for with arrogance.

Apart from Mayo and Kermode’s film show on a Friday it’s 6Music all the way for me.

Smidge001 · 21/05/2018 21:48

I'm so upset Sad
I signed the change. Org petition but I don't really know what will happen with that... Does someone 'own' it and will be forwarding it on to the BBC or something?

Surely the feedback is bad enough now that they can say hey, we trialled it but it's not what the people want?

Nanny0gg · 21/05/2018 23:38

Richard Allinson is on Drivetime for Magic

I love Richard Allinson. Knows his stuff, plays good music, doesn't step on the records and has a good voice.
He used to stand in on R2 lots. Shame they got rid of him.

IJustHadToNameChange · 22/05/2018 01:59

Richard Allinson was great, however Magic has an almost Heart-like playlist and repetitive adverts. 😢

Ethereum · 22/05/2018 08:52

I remember a moment on her ridiculous afternoon ‘Saturday Social’ on R1 back in the mid 90s that summed her up...

Jo: ‘And we have the amazing new track from Primal Scream and Irvine Welsh coming up. It’s incredible so stay tuned’

Song starts with the immortal line :

‘in every hick town in Caledonia in Caledonia, across this erstwhile nation - you can see the most fucked up scum that ever shat into creation’

Jo: ‘oh my god....erm, no that’s not good.’

She hadn’t heard it before doing her usual sycophantic eulogising. It was a song about The Glasgow Rangers/Celtic rivalry Grin

Slartybartfast · 22/05/2018 09:09

Oh I cannot bear Heart

What frequency is Magic?

Slartybartfast · 22/05/2018 09:10

I used to love Richard Allinson on capital in the evenings back in the 80s.

IJustHadToNameChange · 22/05/2018 12:38

Magic is on digital radio

MrsMozart · 22/05/2018 17:48

Tried again, but not for long as it's too drony. Jo's voice and delivery isn't suited to this time of day.

The BBC isn't going to change it. At some point Simon will go and it'll be the Jo Whiley Show. I won't be bothered by then as I'll have given up with it.

mydogmymate · 22/05/2018 18:52

I caught about 5 minutes as I was getting out of the car. It's grim Sad

Derwent19 · 22/05/2018 19:23

The interview segment at about 17.30 and all-request Friday are reasonable enough. Other than that I won't be listening.

TheKitchenWitch · 22/05/2018 19:26

Interview was essay too long, and too serious. They were talking about Star Wars ffs not the d-day landings.
And it is excruciatingly embarrassing when someone calls in, really stilted and awkward.
Awful awful.
As soon as I have the energy I’m going to find a new early evening show to listen to.

DragonflyInn · 22/05/2018 19:42

Well I've given it time, as requested in the BBC's patronising response to my complaint. And It's Still Awful.

So off I toddle to find good old Richard Allinson. If they see sense and return Drivetime to its former glory (including #BringBackMatt) hopefully someone will let me know!! It's not going to happen though is it Hmm
