To hate Jo Wiley

Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

Awaiting all request Friday with some trepidation....

Butkin1 · 18/05/2018 11:37

Will they still play The Muppets at 5.10?

TheKitchenWitch · 18/05/2018 11:37

I've just realised I'm out tonight so will miss All Request Friday...I'll check in here tomorrow morning to see what the verdict is from you lot!

Luckyme2 · 18/05/2018 11:50

My 9 year old looked at me in horror when she heard it yesterday! If they've ruined the all request show for our journey home from her swimming lesson tomorrow she'll be gutted!

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2018 12:30

I think your spin on who "owns" RAJAR is a bit disingenuous Fontella

wizzler · 18/05/2018 13:20

Have defected to radio 5

cistersofterfy · 18/05/2018 14:40

I have a theory about Steve Wright. Based on no evidence at all but an article I read years ago that said his mental health was quite fragile since his marriage break up and he only lives for radio. I think it would destroy him to lose that show. I don't know how he copes with all the abuse he gets on social media. Maybe that's why his weight has ballooned?

I feel sorry for him reading all the comments he gets.

NerrSnerr · 18/05/2018 15:41

I quite like Steve Wright's show, I like the none stop oldies and the show is easy to listen to. I'm not keen on Michael Ball at the weekend though- it's too lovey for me.

I stand by what I said earlier in the thread though, I will be gutted if they mess with Ken and his show. They couldn't do that. Not that I plan my working life around popmaster or anything

MrsPreston11 · 18/05/2018 15:45

YADDDNBU

Can't stand the woman.

Comes across as a music snob. Can't introduce a song or band without mentioning how much of a great time she had "hanging out" with someone related to it.

Just shut up and play some music. You're not impressing anyone.

MrsMozart · 18/05/2018 17:07

Giving it a shot for all request Friday.

A confused opening with Simon speaking then Jo finishing for some reason. If it was planned they need to practice their timings.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 18/05/2018 20:52

Awful all request Friday. Shouted at the radio and then had to turn it off. Nearly started crying, not a good start to my Friday evening...

At least Simon sounded a bit brighter.

On the previous days he's sounded like he's been battling bravely on after some family tragedy.

What have they done to him?

sweetboykit · 18/05/2018 21:58

She mocked the cockney accent of one of the callers.

cistersofterfy · 18/05/2018 22:08

No idea why they changed the muppets. Tbh it did my head in but I know kids love it. It seems like they've tried to change as much as possible just for the sake of it. Seems someone it making some very weird editorial choices.

I think your spin on who "owns" RAJAR is a bit disingenuous Fontella

Why?

The company is jointly owned by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) and by the RadioCentre (the trade body representing the vast majority of Commercial Radio stations in the UK).

IJustHadToNameChange · 19/05/2018 00:10

They're trailing Cerys Matthews' Blues Show on Mondays al lot.

Because that's what we need, isn't it?

Wales' answer to Mystic Meg breathily intoning over every record.

MightyMucks · 19/05/2018 02:11

I loved Jo’s old show but this is awful. Sad

BitOutOfPractice · 19/05/2018 06:21

Yes, it's paid for (but not run by) partly by the bbc and partly by all its competitors including the advertisers on commercial radio. Which is quite different from what you implied in your first post ie that the bbc owns and controls the organisation that collates the listening figures.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/05/2018 06:23

Cerys Matthews is styling herself as the new "music is everything to me and I'm much much cooler than you" jo Wiley isn't she? She's deeply irritating and patronising.

cistersofterfy · 19/05/2018 07:12

Cerys has been doing a Radio 6 Music show for ages so she already has her style. She does know a lot about (some very obscure) music.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 19/05/2018 07:36

Can’t listen to Cerys Matthew. Her voice makes me grit my teeth. Why all the promotion of shite and breathy females?

I LOVE Vanessa feltz doing Jeremy’s show. Sara Cox is good too.

I will hunt for a new drivetime show.

Gnittensmum · 19/05/2018 08:40

Did anyone catch the guy who sounded like he might be on MDMA calling in for a request? He started to try and give them some tips on making the show better and got cut off. Listen from 13.40 - the snigger is amazing! www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b25sdx

Slartybartfast · 19/05/2018 09:03

What was he on about!

MrsMozart · 19/05/2018 09:05

Damn. Can't listen as not registered on the BBC site (if I remember right it required far too much unnecessary information).

FanDabbyFloozy · 19/05/2018 09:15

@calledyoulastnightfromglasgow
I LOVE Vanessa feltz doing Jeremy’s show. Sara Cox is good too.

Vanessa is the bees knees on BBC Radio London and has been for years. Even through her banished years, she was always on, dealing with London's issues. Please don't steal Vanessa for Radio 2!!

Did anyone hear Jo Good as chief royal wedding fan girl yesterday? Her enthusiasm and uncoolness was infectious - "does anyone know who did her pedicure?" Grin
