To hate Jo Wiley

Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

I listened again tonight and all I heard was Jo Whiley dominating the chat , SM didn’t get a word in with Craig David at all, it was completely one sided.

JW isn’t suited to a drive time slot , she’s just not light enough, the previous line up and package was perfect .

mummabubs · 15/05/2018 21:08

She played a DJ set at a Greyhound track recently and proclaims herself as a dog lover, but despite so many people contacting her about the abundant cruelty within the Greyhound racing industry asking her to pull out she still went ahead. (Other celebs in her position and major retailers of racing experience vouchers have listened to people's objections in the past and acted). The fact she ignored everyone and went ahead told me all I needed to know to decide whether I like her or not!

Derwent19 · 15/05/2018 22:33

I love Simon Mayo and I loved drivetime, but I knew this show absolutely was not for me when they said Craig David was performing live. I wanted to give it a chance but features like that are not for me.

I like Jo Whiley but she and Simon do not make a good combination. The format works better for her and I am sure that within 12 months it will be her show and Simon will be history.

As others have said more important things are going on in the world, but I am gutted! I really miss the old drivetime. It just feels like Simon is on the way out. And for no bloody good reason.

BitOutOfPractice · 15/05/2018 22:39

Well I listened to the confession tonight and something was missing. The joy. The cameraderie. The feeling that we were part of the team. The spark.

It was crap.

BitOutOfPractice · 15/05/2018 22:43

And it's all about music. And how much she loves music. Did I mention she loves music! Did she mention it?

I don't want it all to be about how cool my music choices are. I liked the reading / cooking / homework / clever / interesting things that mayo et al talked about. Not live sessions. Ugh.

Derwent19 · 15/05/2018 22:49

BitOutOfPractice has got is spot on.

BrendansDanceShoes · 15/05/2018 23:54

Hear Hear. It's the Jo show, with Simon helping out. First track Springsteen, Jo's choice.Shock Special guest Craig DavidAngry . Why they need to do a joint show??? I know they are reading out positive emails on the show, but i bet the inbox (at least that is email simonand jo) is flooded with rude comments from Drivetime fans. Havent heard many Jo Whiley fans saying her show has been wrecked!

elastamum · 16/05/2018 00:04

I have been listening to drive time for years on my long commute home. The last two shows have been awful. Poor Simon.

AgathaMystery · 16/05/2018 00:12

I love her! I wish she had been given her own show though.

I'd love to see her replace Ken Bruce. His show is horrendous. He just witters on. R2 is just men men men from dawn 'till dusk HmmAngry

I didn't mind drive time. I mean, the show wasn't good but I could bear it. Now it's just painful.

Noodledoodledoo · 16/05/2018 00:16

Jo Whiley makes me feel like I am back at school and not in with the 'cool' crowd reading the NME.

My cd got switched on at 25 past last night, didn't bother to listen tonight!

I was a bit gutted I have a new job starting later in the year which cuts my commute to 10 mins from 50 - kind of pleased now!

AmIthatbloodycold · 16/05/2018 00:20

Poor Simon indeed. The last two nights have been bloody awful

ArsenalsPlayingAtHome · 16/05/2018 07:21

They should have left well alone - loved everything about the show & the team prior to JW.

I can't bear her or her voice.

There are other presenters on various different stations that I turn over rather than listen to, but JW brings me out in hives & I can't change channel quick enough the second I hear her voice.

SM would have always been my first choice at that time of day, but now I will avoid at all costs.

Don't know what the big bosses were thinking!

Well I suppose it might just as much be his decision that he doesn't want to do it any longer ... but I still hate it.

TheKitchenWitch · 16/05/2018 08:56

AgathaMystery she HAD her own show! Which was perfect! Which actually makes this even more bizarre...
If this is actually Simon's decision and part of him leaving R2 altogether, then I'd expect him to sound a lot more positive about it tbh.

PiggeryPorcombe · 16/05/2018 09:01

No positive comments on fb either.

bramblina · 16/05/2018 09:07

I agree with OP about her breathing, it's a bit like a reflection of a lack of confidence which can't be the case but also saying "uhhh" or "um" all the time is so annoying. I've never liked her as a Dj. I'm sure she's a lovely person but I can't bear her- I won't listen anymore but R2 is on in my kitchen from 7.1am to 7pm every day but that's set to change.
And did anyone else notice that Craig David was just a little flat? Uncomfortable!

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 16/05/2018 09:14

Such a shame. I only listened a couple of times per week, but always liked the show and liked Simon Mayo. This show doesn't really work for Simon or Jo fans.

twilightcafe · 16/05/2018 12:47

Probably make no difference, but I have sent in a complaint to the BBC.

They've replaced two hours of brilliant, inclusive, entertaining and informative broadcasting with three hours of drivel.

bornonvalentines · 16/05/2018 14:31

If I don't listen, does my own personal protest affect the listening figures? Is technology that clever?

Hate it so much. Magic on in our house for cooking now.

slippermaiden · 16/05/2018 14:36

I actually really like the new show. Before I used to listen to Simon Mayo while making the tea and Jo Wiley while I was having a bath, not I just combine the two! I don't really like any other dj on radio 2, we have Grimmy on in the mornings, absolute at other times, radio 5 if Liverpool are playing!

BitOutOfPractice · 16/05/2018 14:38

The thing is, I bet all the Jo Wiley fans (I'm being generous and assuming she has some) aren't happy either because she's lost her own show. Mind you, they'll be massive music fans won't they? Because JW really loves music. I mean Really. Loves. Music.

sweetboykit · 16/05/2018 14:40

What really annoys me apart from her constant drivel about herself and constant repetition is telling me what the song is about. Simon is just so effortless at making me feel he's just talking to me. Simon can hardly get a word in edgewise. I miss Matt on confessions.Sad

mydogmymate · 16/05/2018 14:41

I've complained too. I've looked at comments on instagram, Twitter and Facebook and there are mainly slating the show.
When will R2 put this right? I find their arrogance about the uproar this is caused disgusting. We pay their wages for fucks sake!

BitOutOfPractice · 16/05/2018 14:43

Sweetboykit she tells you about the "track" (always a track, never a song, or a record because, you know, tracks are much cooler) because she loves music.

CiderwithBuda · 16/05/2018 14:48

I don’t mind that she loves music. Have no issue with her personally. But it’s just the wrong time for that type of show. And trying to merge the two shows is nonsensical. It’s too bleh. I don’t think two presenters works full stop tbh.
